Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Hugo Sterling, Stay Out of My Business

Hugo Sterling got up and went outside to answer his phone.

"Hello, Tristan."

"You seem to be on good terms with Noelle Sutton."

Hugo Sterling smiled faintly. "What are you trying to say?"

Tristan Lawson pressed his lips together, hesitating for a long moment before saying, "Help me get in touch with her."

Hugo’s smile widened. "You can’t get in touch with your own wife?"

Tristan Lawson was sitting in his car, which was parked at the entrance of the Sterling Villa. In the darkness, he could see the glow of a phone screen in the yard and the faint outline of a person.

"Are you in the yard?"

Hugo Sterling turned to look outside.

Tristan Lawson got out of his car. Hugo closed his phone and walked out to meet him.

Tonight, Tristan Lawson was radiating a thick, gloomy aura.

"It’s the Mid-Autumn Festival. Why are you at my house instead of at home celebrating?"

Hugo Sterling was playing dumb, his tone tinged with sarcasm.

A man’s pride is important. Tristan’s expression grew even more unsightly, and his voice was deep. "I need your help contacting her."

After he spoke, an embarrassed look crossed Tristan’s face. He added, "Once it’s done, I’ll have the shared power station project go to the Sterling Group."

Hugo had given him the project proposal, but Tristan hadn’t started on it yet.

"Tsk..." Hugo chuckled softly. "Now that’s a generous offer."

"Why are you talking so much nonsense?"

The elegant and distinguished man couldn’t help but feel a bit agitated.

Only then did Hugo slowly say, "It’s not that I won’t help you. The problem is, I’m afraid she doesn’t want to see you. She told me she wants a divorce, and I’m considering whether I should help her find a lawyer."

The sharp lines of Tristan Lawson’s features suddenly tensed.

"Stay out of my business!"

"I can’t help it," Hugo said helplessly. "My grandfather insists on getting involved. You know that Noelle’s grandmother was his first love. He’s always talking about how she gave him the seed money for his first fortune. Not only has he never forgotten her, but he’s also incredibly grateful. His first love has passed away, so he can’t repay her directly. That favor naturally extends to Noelle."

A shadow fell over Tristan Lawson’s eyes.

’Things seem to be getting more and more complicated.’

Under the dim yellow streetlight, Tristan’s cold glare was still visible. His voice was icy. "Are you saying you’re going to oppose me to the very end?"

"Sigh..." Hugo lamented. "As a grandson, I can’t go against my grandfather’s wishes. Tristan, why don’t you just let her go? She can’t speak, and it looks like the Lawson Family doesn’t really welcome her anyway. Besides, with your credentials, women will be lining up for you the moment you’re divorced. Why make things difficult for her?"

Hugo’s tone was light and his words seemed earnest and well-meaning, but they still managed to infuriate Tristan Lawson.

"’It’s better to tear down ten temples than to ruin one marriage.’ What kind of friend are you, encouraging a divorce instead of a reconciliation?"

"Noelle Sutton is an orphan. I’m not just saying this to defend her. Logically speaking, marrying you was a step up for her, wasn’t it? She should be grateful and cherish everything she has. But she doesn’t want it anymore. She wants to dump you. That just goes to show how terrible you must be. You were dealt such a good hand, but you played it so poorly that you can’t even hold on to your wife. How can you blame me instead of reflecting on yourself?"

"I shouldn’t have come to you!"

Furious, Tristan Lawson turned and stalked away.

He had swallowed his pride to ask for a favor, only to get a lecture for his trouble.

Hugo even shouted after him, "You’re the one leaving, I’m not kicking you out! Goodbye!"

Tristan Lawson suddenly stopped in his tracks.

’Hugo wanted my help finding the youngest Miss Sterling, and he gave me the shared power station project for it. Now he’s willing to offend me for Noelle’s sake. Isn’t he afraid I’ll refuse to use big data to help him find her?’

A faint smirk touched Tristan Lawson’s lips as he turned and walked back toward Hugo Sterling.

"Weren’t you leaving? Why are you coming back?"

Tristan’s gaze swept toward the Sterling Villa. The lights were on inside. Only Hugo and Old Master Sterling were home. Why would Hugo need to go outside just to take his call?

Noelle had only met Old Master Sterling once. She wouldn’t have had a chance to mention the divorce to him yet.

Then, there was only one possibility... She had just brought it up with the Sterling Family today.

’So, she’s inside!’

Hugo noticed Tristan’s gaze and took a step forward, blocking his path. "It’s getting late. You should hurry home to your son."

Tristan shoved Hugo aside and strode toward the Sterling Villa.

"Tristan! Tristan..."

Hugo quickly chased after him. ’If Tristan confronts Noelle, she’ll definitely be upset.’

But Tristan had already stormed inside.

"Tristan!"

Noelle Sutton and Old Master Sterling were in the middle of a pleasant conversation. Hearing Hugo’s voice, they both looked toward the door.

Noelle flinched, her hands on her knees clenching into fists.

’He found me. He’s definitely going to force me to go back.’

Noelle instinctively leaned closer to Old Master Sterling and held onto his arm.

Old Master Sterling’s body stiffened. His own young granddaughter would do the same thing whenever she was scared. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Old Master Sterling already felt a sense of affection for Noelle because of her grandmother. Now, he felt even closer to her.

He immediately patted Noelle’s hand. "Don’t be afraid, my dear. Grandpa’s here. I won’t let this scoundrel bully you."

Tristan Lawson’s eyebrow arched. "Did you tell Grandpa Sterling I bullied you?"

Old Master Sterling immediately stood up. "Tristan, what’s the meaning of this? Noelle didn’t say a single bad thing about you. Is this how you usually treat her, by falsely accusing her? You brat! You’re not good to your own wife, and now you’ve come here to condemn her?"

A wave of warmth spread through Noelle’s heart. Her grandmother used to protect her just like this whenever others bullied her.

It had been a long time since she had felt the warmth of being protected by family.

"I didn’t come here to condemn anyone."

Tristan Lawson pulled two velvet boxes, one long and one square, from the pocket of his trench coat.

Noelle recognized them at a glance. They were the necklace and brooch she had sold.

The boxes were even the original ones.

Tristan opened the box containing the pearl necklace. "I came to give her something."

Old Master Sterling’s heavy eyelids trembled. "If I’m not mistaken, that should be a Hughes Family heirloom. It was part of the dowry your maternal grandparents gave your mother when she got married. It was made from the court beads of a certain empress dowager from a previous dynasty."

"Grandpa Sterling’s eye is as sharp as ever." Tristan Lawson offered the necklace to Noelle. "Don’t you dare sell it again."

Hugo Sterling was stunned. ’Noelle actually had the guts to sell an heirloom from Tristan’s late mother.’

Noelle knew the pearl necklace was very expensive, but she never imagined it was something left behind by Tristan’s mother.

’But even so, I can’t let this affect me.’

She didn’t take it.

Tristan Lawson’s hand froze in mid-air.

The atmosphere instantly grew cold, heavy, and awkward.
