I Stepped Aside for Her, Now They Beg My Forgiveness Every Night
Chapter 30: Of Course, Nothing Matters Anymore
Old Master Lawson was the only one in the hospital room.
Tristan Lawson’s expression changed instantly.
"Where is she?"
"She’s been discharged."
Old Master Lawson stood up, leaning on his cane.
Tristan Lawson immediately pulled out his phone and dialed Sophie Hughes’s number.
It connected.
But no one answered.
Tristan Lawson looked up, meeting Old Master Lawson’s calm, placid gaze.
"She’s only been back in the country for a few days. What did she do to upset you?"
Old Master Lawson walked over to Tristan Lawson and patted his shoulder gently.
"Tristan, your maternal grandfather was hospitalized. The call came to me, so I came over to let her know. She left in a hurry. I didn’t say anything else."
A vein throbbed on Tristan Lawson’s forehead. He immediately turned and left, rushing to the airport.
Old Master Lawson went to Joshua Lawson’s hospital room.
Tessa Lawson and Joshua Lawson were sitting face-to-face, staring each other down.
"Is Joshua feeling better?"
Old Master Lawson asked with concern.
Tessa: "The doctor just came by. He said Joshua is much better. He still has a slight cough, but it’s nothing serious. They prescribed some medicine and said he can be discharged."
"Good. Come on, let’s go home."
Old Master Lawson cheerfully reached for Joshua Lawson’s hand.
But Joshua pulled away, looking up at Old Master Lawson with eyes as dark and bright as obsidian.
"Where’s Sophie?"
Old Master Lawson smiled gently. "Your maternal great-grandfather is sick, so she went home."
"Will she come back?"
Joshua asked urgently.
’Tessa really wanted to smack him.’
Old Master Lawson, however, was quite patient. "She’ll come back once your maternal great-grandfather is feeling better."
Only then did Joshua Lawson take the initiative to hold Old Master Lawson’s hand.
Tristan Lawson arrived at the airport, his eyes scanning everywhere for any sign of Sophie Hughes.
After searching around for a long time, he finally saw Sophie Hughes coming out of the restroom area, heading toward the security checkpoint.
He rushed forward.
When Sophie Hughes saw him, she froze for a moment.
"Tristan, what are you doing here?"
"Is Grandpa sick?"
Sophie Hughes nodded. "I just called home. The butler said he had a bad fall and is still in the hospital. It’s pretty serious. I have to go back."
Sophie Hughes didn’t mention to Tristan that Old Master Lawson and Tessa Lawson had come to see her.
"I’ll go with you to see Grandpa."
"It’s fine, I can go back by myself. You and Noelle are still fighting. If she doesn’t come home, what will Joshua do all by himself?"
"She’s back."
Tristan Lawson knew Noelle Sutton loved him very much. After he had coaxed her like that and even promised to take her for wedding photos, he was sure she would stay obediently at home.
And Noelle Sutton was indeed at home.
She had originally planned to leave.
But before the divorce was finalized, where could she possibly go?
Whether she went back to her hometown or checked into a hotel, Tristan Lawson could find her whenever he wanted.
She could only wait at home for Tristan Lawson to come back and finalize the divorce.
Old Master Lawson and Tessa Lawson brought Joshua Lawson to Westhill Villa.
Seeing Noelle Sutton at home, they felt a sense of relief.
Tessa Lawson smiled at Joshua Lawson and said, "Go on, go to your mother."
But Joshua walked over to Old Master Lawson, looked up, and said, "Did Sophie leave because Mommy came back? Was the whole thing about our maternal great-grandfather being sick just a lie?"
Noelle Sutton’s fingertips stiffened.
’Sophie Hughes left?’
’Her maternal great-grandfather is sick?’
’Could Sophie Hughes really be Tristan Lawson’s aunt?’
’Her own son thought Sophie left because of her, and he didn’t even believe that his maternal great-grandfather was sick.’
Tessa Lawson snapped coldly, "Joshua, what nonsense are you talking about? Get it straight who your mother is."
Tessa Lawson’s voice was a little loud, and Joshua was so scared he started to cry. He ran to Old Master Lawson and hugged his leg. "Great-Grandpa, Auntie yelled at me."
Old Master Lawson’s favorite grandson was Tristan Lawson, so naturally, he doted on Joshua as well.
He shot Tessa Lawson a glare. "Why are you being so harsh with a child?"
He was, however, a bit surprised.
Noelle Sutton didn’t even come over to comfort the child.
Old Master Lawson could only crouch down, take out a handkerchief, and wipe away Joshua’s tears, comforting him, "Your maternal great-grandfather really is sick. If you don’t believe me, I can make a call, and you can ask. How about that?"
"Okay."
Old Master Lawson took Joshua’s hand and led him to the living room balcony.
Tessa Lawson forcibly dragged Noelle Sutton into the master bedroom.
"What is wrong with you? Can’t you see that your son’s heart has been completely won over by Sophie Hughes!"
Seeing Noelle Sutton’s indifferent expression, Tessa felt a surge of frustration, as though she were trying to forge scrap iron into steel.
’Any other woman in this situation would be fighting tooth and nail to win back her husband and son’s hearts, declaring war on the woman outside.’
Noelle Sutton didn’t even have the energy to type a reply for Tessa Lawson.
’Suddenly, she felt that being unable to speak might be a good thing after all.’
’At least she didn’t have to answer questions she didn’t want to answer.’
"Say something!"
Tessa Lawson’s brows were tightly furrowed.
Only then did Noelle Sutton pull out her phone and type a line of text.
"It’s not important anymore."
Tessa Lawson clenched her fists. "You’re going to drive me crazy! If your husband and son being stolen away isn’t important, then what is?"
’What is most important?’
’She only had six months to live. Of course nothing else was important.’
Just then, Old Master Lawson came in as well.
Tessa Lawson walked over to support Old Master Lawson and said angrily, "Grandpa, Noelle is completely hopeless. Back then, the whole family was against Tristan marrying..."
"Tessa."
Old Master Lawson cut Tessa Lawson off. "You go out and stay with Joshua first."
"Oh."
Tessa Lawson let go of Old Master Lawson’s arm, walked out, and closed the door.
Joshua Lawson learned that Sophie Hughes had indeed gone back because his maternal great-grandfather was sick, but he was still sullen and returned to his bedroom.
Tessa Lawson entered his room and saw Joshua standing in front of a painting, holding his phone watch and dialing a number.
Tessa Lawson walked over. The name "Sophie" was flashing on the phone watch’s screen.
Tessa Lawson’s expression turned utterly foul.
Fortunately, a voice came from the phone watch: "Sorry, the number you have dialed is switched off."
"Joshua, I heard from your dad that you’re really good with a Rubik’s Cube. Come on, why don’t you teach your auntie?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Tessa Lawson was trying to distract Joshua.
"I don’t want to play. I miss Sophie..."
Joshua’s gaze fell on the painting.
’He was still waiting for Sophie to be discharged from the hospital so he could give her this painting.’
Old Master Lawson sat down in Noelle’s room. His tone was exceptionally cool. "You must have noticed a few things these past few days."
Noelle Sutton met Old Master Lawson’s gaze.
’She figured Old Master Lawson had probably known from the very beginning.’
’That’s why he had called her.’
Old Master Lawson continued, "What do you plan to do?"
Noelle Sutton took out her phone and typed a line of text.
"Divorce Tristan Lawson."
When Old Master Lawson saw that line of text, his cloudy eyes narrowed.
"Divorce him? Where will you go after the divorce? You’re a mute. Where will you work? How will you support yourself? You must be insane!"
