Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Are You Resigned?

Noelle Sutton typed a line of text on her phone.

"I’ll arrange these things myself. You don’t need to worry about it."

Old Master Lawson looked at the text on the phone, then raised his head and stared intently at Noelle.

"I recall Tristan had you sign a prenuptial agreement. If you divorce him, you’ll get nothing. You’ve been married to him for seven years, haven’t you? How many seven-year periods does a woman get in her life? Are you really okay with this?"

’How many seven-year periods does a woman get in her life.’

’If I lived a bit longer, perhaps there would be another seven years.’

’But this was my last seven years.’

’The last seven years of my life have all been spent on Tristan Lawson.’

’Seven years ago, Tristan Lawson wanted to marry me.’

’I was so happy I was beside myself.’

’Even signing a prenuptial agreement didn’t seem like a big deal.’

’I wanted love. I wanted Tristan Lawson. I didn’t need anything else.’

’Looking back now, it’s all so ridiculous.’

She replied to Old Master Lawson.

"I’m willing to accept my loss."

"How can you be so sure you’ll lose? Since Sophie Hughes appeared, have you even tried to fight for it?"

This time, Old Master Lawson didn’t hold back, directly acknowledging the relationship between Sophie Hughes and Tristan Lawson.

Noelle gave a helpless smile.

"I gambled for seven years, and now I have my answer."

She showed the text on her phone to Old Master Lawson.

"What a useless thing!"

Old Master Lawson stood up, no longer wanting to communicate with her.

Old Master Lawson walked out and called for Tessa Lawson.

Tessa Lawson took the medicine Joshua Lawson needed from her bag and thrust it into Noelle’s hand.

"This is the medicine Joshua has to take every day. Don’t forget to give it to him on time."

After Old Master Lawson and Tessa left, Noelle handed the medicine to Mrs. Miller.

Mrs. Miller saw that the boxes were for children’s medicine and knew it was for Joshua. She said, "Ma’am, you’re usually the one who gives the young master his medicine."

Noelle stared at Mrs. Miller for a moment.

Mrs. Miller quickly said, "My apologies, Ma’am. I’ll give the young master his medicine on time."

In truth, this kind of task was originally supposed to be done by the servants. It wasn’t that Mrs. Miller was being lazy.

It was just that before, Noelle had wanted to take care of Tristan and his son personally, so she did everything herself.

Noelle walked into the master bedroom.

She continued her paper cutting. There was only a small part left.

Once she finished cutting, she could mount it and send it to Joy Rhodes.

Joshua Lawson had some snacks at noon, took his medicine, and then fell asleep. When he woke up, it was almost dark.

He heard the sounds of cooking and came out of his bedroom.

When he got to the kitchen, he saw Mrs. Miller was the one cooking.

Mrs. Miller said with a smile, "Young Master, are you hungry?"

"Is my mom not home? Why isn’t she out here cooking?"

"She might be busy."

Joshua ran to Noelle’s room, knocked twice, and then walked right in.

"Mom, why aren’t you making dinner?"

Noelle put down the scissors in her hand and looked up.

Joshua had a displeased look on his face.

Noelle signed, "Isn’t Mrs. Miller cooking?"

"But you’re usually the one who cooks. Why did you let Mrs. Miller do it today? Don’t you want to cook for me anymore?"

Noelle signed patiently, "Does it matter who cooks?"

Joshua felt very wronged.

He couldn’t feel his mother’s love for him anymore and puffed out his cheeks angrily.

Just as he was about to say something, his smartwatch phone rang.

His eyes instantly lit up, and he said in surprise, "It’s Sophie!"

He quickly answered the call and walked out.

"Sophie, I heard from Auntie that you left. Why didn’t you even say goodbye?"

Joshua’s words, full of dependence, were like tiny needles piercing Noelle’s heart.

’How long has he even known Sophie Hughes to like her this much already?’

’It’s the first time I’ve realized that liking someone can be genetic.’

"Ah, you’re saying my dad went with you? Waaaah... Why didn’t you guys take me? You left me all alone at home. I want to go too..."

Noelle had just picked up her scissors again when, with one snip, she accidentally cut her hand.

Bright red blood immediately welled up.

She stared at the bead of blood on her index finger, her eyes vacant.

She sat there in a daze. After a few minutes, Joshua came back.

"Mom, Dad wants to talk to you."

Joshua put the smartwatch on speakerphone.

Tristan Lawson’s cool, deep voice came from the watch.

"Noelle, Joshua wants to come to Aridia. Book a flight to Zentha State and bring him over. You haven’t met my maternal grandfather since we got married. Take this opportunity to pay him a visit."

Noelle couldn’t speak on the phone.

If Tristan called her, he would say a single sentence telling her to check her messages, then hang up.

Of course, there were times he didn’t need to text her. He would just state his business directly over the phone. These instances were simply notifications—orders for things she had to do.

This time was no different. After he finished speaking, Tristan hung up.

Noelle saw that the name on the watch screen was Sophie Hughes.

’He used Sophie’s phone to call.’ 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Joshua put his watch back on, then suddenly snuggled up to Noelle and said excitedly, "Mom, can you book the tickets right now? We can leave right after dinner."

Joshua was very close, and Noelle smelled a faint, elegant perfume.

It was the same Chanel Coco scent that Sophie Hughes wore.

Sophie Hughes had left this morning, which meant Joshua had been affectionately close to her this morning.

Noelle looked at her smiling son and suddenly felt he was a stranger.

’My seven years couldn’t compare to someone else’s less than ten days.’

’How could I possibly bear this!’

Noelle’s injured finger was in plain sight, but it was as if Joshua couldn’t see it at all.

"Mom?"

Joshua’s smile faded. He looked at her, confused. "Can’t you hear me?"

’I can hear him perfectly.’

But she didn’t answer. Instead, she held her hand out in front of Joshua.

The blood on her index finger had already stained the entire fingertip.

But Joshua just said, "Mom, it’s just your left hand that’s hurt. You can still use your right hand to tap on your phone screen."

Noelle’s heart turned completely cold.

She didn’t answer Joshua and walked out to the living room.

Her left hand was injured, and she held it up, palm facing the sky.

She was going to get the first-aid kit.

Mrs. Miller had just placed a platter of food on the dining table when she saw from a distance that Noelle’s finger was bleeding.

She quickly wiped her hands on her apron and hurried over.

"Ma’am, how did you injure your hand?"

Mrs. Miller then helped Noelle to the sofa and had her sit down.

Mrs. Miller rushed to the cabinet under the TV, grabbed the first-aid kit, took out a piece of gauze, dabbed it with some alcohol, and gently wiped the blood from Noelle’s finger.

Afraid it would hurt, Mrs. Miller gently blew on the wound as she cleaned it.

Noelle’s eyes blurred.

’The people who care about you can see your pain even from far away.’

’The people who don’t care will turn a blind eye even if you place your bloody wound right in front of them.’

Mrs. Miller said in a low voice, "Thankfully, the cut isn’t deep."

Mrs. Miller carefully treated the wound.

Joshua urged impatiently, "Mrs. Miller, hurry up. I’m still waiting for my mom to book the tickets."
