Wyatt Yates shot to his feet, grabbing Tessa Lawson’s arm. "What do you think you’re doing?" he said angrily.

Noelle Sutton opened her drenched eyelids and saw it was Tessa Lawson.

Tessa Lawson’s wrist throbbed with pain where Wyatt Yates was gripping it.

She frowned, trying to wrench her hand free.

"You damn brute, you’re hurting me! Do you have any idea who I am? Get your filthy hands off me, now!"

"I don’t care who you are! Apologize to her!"

Wyatt Yates was so angry a vein bulged on his forehead. He was also filled with self-reproach; he had let his guard down for a moment, and The Little Mute had been bullied.

Noelle Sutton stood up and hurriedly signed to Wyatt Yates, "Let her go. She’s Tristan Lawson’s sister."

Wyatt Yates’s grip loosened slightly, and Tessa Lawson immediately pulled her arm free, raising her hand to slap him.

Noelle Sutton stepped forward to block her.

Tessa Lawson’s slap landed squarely on Noelle Sutton’s face.

She had been furious and used a little too much force. In an instant, several red finger marks appeared on Noelle Sutton’s fair cheek.

Tessa Lawson’s expression froze, and she looked at her own hand in a panic.

’She hadn’t meant to hit Noelle Sutton.’

Wyatt Yates couldn’t hold back anymore. Even though his glasses gave him a rather refined air, they couldn’t suppress the roguishness about him.

’He didn’t want to hit a woman, but he wouldn’t allow anyone to bully The Little Mute—not even Tristan Lawson’s sister!’

Seeing him about to charge forward, Noelle Sutton grabbed Wyatt Yates’s arm, her eyes pleading with him not to.

Wyatt Yates pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek and reluctantly suppressed his anger.

Tessa Lawson snapped back to her senses. Seeing how close Noelle Sutton and Wyatt Yates were, that tiny bit of flustered guilt was instantly forgotten.

"Noelle Sutton, don’t you forget that you’re Tristan’s wife! He goes abroad, and you’re out here making eyes at some strange man? Have you no shame?"

Seeing Tessa Lawson’s vile attitude toward Noelle Sutton, Wyatt Yates clenched his fists and asked in a low voice, "Little Mute, does his family always treat you like this?"

Noelle Sutton didn’t want to make a scene, and she certainly didn’t want Wyatt Yates to know about her situation with the Lawson Family.

Her current predicament was all her own doing, and she didn’t want to drag Wyatt Yates into it.

"Oh? Feeling sorry for her already?"

Tessa Lawson glanced sideways at Noelle Sutton, her tone dripping with sarcasm.

Wyatt Yates was on the verge of snapping.

Seeing his expression, Noelle Sutton immediately signed to him, "Wyatt, I’m sorry. Please go first. I’ll treat you to a meal some other day to make it up to you."

Wyatt Yates was about to speak, but fearing Tessa Lawson would interrupt, he decided to reply in sign language as well. "She has the temper of a spoiled princess. If I leave, what if she bullies you?"

"It’s fine, I can handle it. Wyatt, I’m begging you, please go."

Noelle Sutton signed, her beautiful eyes filled with a troubled expression.

Wyatt Yates understood what Noelle Sutton meant. They were having dinner together at the Myre River Pavilion, a place most couples—married or not—would choose for a dinner date to watch the fireworks.

’Just like him.’

When Noelle Sutton chose the Myre River Pavilion, he had immediately contacted them to sponsor tonight’s fireworks show.

Being seen here by Noelle Sutton’s sister-in-law would definitely lead to a misunderstanding.

’Her being so desperate for me to leave must mean she cares a lot about Tristan Lawson.’

Wyatt Yates could only tell her to take care of herself and to contact him anytime if she ran into any trouble.

Tessa Lawson saw the two of them using sign language.

Wyatt Yates could clearly speak, yet he also knew sign language and could understand it. The anger on her cold, elegant face deepened.

"What are you two gesturing about? Are you plotting some shady business?"

Wyatt Yates was absolutely furious, but Noelle Sutton still forcefully pushed him to leave.

Not wanting to make things more difficult for Noelle Sutton, he shot Tessa Lawson a cool glance as he brushed past her.

Tessa Lawson folded her arms and snorted coldly. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

’That punk has some nerve, daring to look at me like that.’

’If I didn’t have to deal with Noelle Sutton, I would have absolutely dragged him outside for a one-on-one fight!’

After Wyatt Yates left, Tessa Lawson glanced coolly at Noelle Sutton and said coldly, "Come with me. We’ll talk outside."

Noelle Sutton took a step, and Tessa Lawson stormed off ahead of her.

After leaving the Myre River Pavilion, Noelle Sutton got into Tessa Lawson’s sports car.

Tessa Lawson slammed on the accelerator, driving Noelle Sutton to her large, high-rise apartment in the city.

Tessa Lawson ordered a servant to brew two cups of coffee.

She sat down next to Noelle Sutton, arrogantly crossed her legs, and demanded, "What’s your relationship with that man?"

Noelle Sutton typed a few words on her phone: "A childhood neighbor."

’Even if I’m going to divorce Tristan Lawson, I don’t want to implicate Wyatt Yates.’

’Although Wyatt’s family is well-off, who in Glenwater can afford to offend Tristan Lawson?’

"Such a high-sounding answer. Do you take me for a fool? He was so protective of you, and he even knows sign language. What normal person who can speak would bother to learn sign language, if not for you? I have to hand it to you, you really are something else. For a mute, you sure know how to seduce men."

These deeply insulting words made even the good-tempered Noelle Sutton angry. Her fingertips furiously typed a line of text on the screen.

"Don’t you dare make baseless accusations! We really were just childhood neighbors. If you don’t believe me, you can investigate it yourself!"

Tessa Lawson read the reply, then looked at Noelle Sutton’s determined gaze. A smirk played on her red lips. "I doubt you’d have the guts! You’re a woman with a husband and a son now. Don’t let me see you getting so close to another man again. At least it was me who caught you. If someone else had seen you, where would Tristan’s pride be?"

’That’s right.’

’For upper-class people like the Lawsons, their pride is everything.’

’A disabled person like me would never get a shred of respect in their eyes.’

A sudden surge of courage came over Noelle Sutton from who knows where. She typed on her phone, "What does his pride have to do with me? Can’t I have friends or neighbors? Do I have to spend my entire life devoted only to Tristan Lawson and Joshua Lawson, with no self of my own?"

"Huh? What nonsense are you spouting? You’re a full-time housewife. If you’re not devoted to your husband and son, who are you going to be devoted to? Noelle Sutton, don’t provoke me, or I’ll tell Tristan about this right now."

Noelle Sutton quickly typed out two words.

"Suit yourself!"

’I really can’t take this anymore.’

’If Tristan Lawson wants to cause trouble, I’ll face it myself.’

’There’s nothing but innocence between me and Wyatt Yates. I’m not afraid of them slinging mud at me.’

"You!"

Tessa Lawson was seething, shooting to her feet in agitation.

Noelle Sutton stood up as well, picked up her bag, and walked toward the door.

"Noelle Sutton, you stop right there!"

Noelle Sutton pulled open the door and left.

Tessa Lawson’s chest heaved. Fuming, she paced back and forth a few steps before snatching her phone from the coffee table and dialing Tristan Lawson’s number.

As soon as the call connected, Tessa Lawson said frantically, "Tristan, Noelle Sutton is..."

"Don’t mention her to me!" Tristan Lawson cut Tessa Lawson off, his tone deep and angry. "I’m not interested in anything to do with her."
