My Avatar is Becoming the Ultimate BOSS
Chapter 616 - 360: The Chairman’s Identity, Lake Hunting’s Fourth Member (Two-in-One Requesting Monthly Votes)
"That’s someone else’s business, let’s not get involved," Gu Zhuo said in a lowered voice.
"Understood, Dad," Su Zimai replied calmly, "It’s a good thing you didn’t act impulsively. I thought you might have a moment of hotheadedness and rush to help them battle the Salvation Society."
"How could we? If we die, what will happen to our Xiaomai?" Gu Qiye asked. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Exactly... As long as you understand that, we’ve already lost one brother; don’t let me lose a second one," Su Zimai nodded, speaking softly.
Gu Qiye was momentarily stunned, his expression slightly complex. After a moment, he let out a soft chuckle and then reached up to pat her head.
After a while, a pair of headlights pierced through the darkness of the tunnel, and a dark red train rumbled through, coming to a stop on the tracks.
Su Zimai led Gu Zhuo and Gu Qiye onto the train, their footsteps clanging on the steel floor.
After entering the brightly lit Carriage No. 7, she looked up and saw Ke Qirui sitting on a seat, smoking. She held a cigarette holder in one hand and hugged her shoulder with the other, wearing the usual khaki trench coat.
Gu Qiye and Gu Zhuo nodded to Ke Qirui, then sat down in a corner of the carriage.
The father and son clearly had no fondness for the person who had led their daughter astray.
But as they were now fugitives on an international scale, second to none on the wanted list, they had no choice but to rely on the protection of Lake Hunting.
Elsewhere, they might not be able to sleep a wink, constantly on edge as the Mutants Association and Rainbow Wings pursued them with myriad unique superpowers. They could fall into the hands of some mysterious Superpower User at any time.
"Captain, is there any intel from Lake Hunting? Isn’t the situation tense these days?" Su Zimai asked casually as she sat down.
"Latest intel suggests that the Year Beast Monarch seems to have invited the Seven Deadly Sins from Northern Europe, which is quite a surprise," Ke Qirui said after removing the cigarette holder. "Ever since the former Lake Hunter killed four of the Seven Deadly Sins, the remaining three demons have not been seen for a long time."
At this point, she curled her lips into a slight mocking grin, "The association thought that crusade had extinguished their flame entirely, but who would’ve thought they’d now seek to ally with the Year Beast Monarch’s power? Truly disgraceful."
Gu Qiye and Gu Zhuo remained silent, one staring at the floor, the other gazing out of the window.
They had agreed from the start never to get involved with the affairs of Lake Hunting and the Year Beast, nor would they allow Su Zimai and Ke Qirui to join the battlefield.
As long as Ke Qirui doesn’t cross the line, they won’t say anything, but they both worry if Su Zimai would really heed their words.
If Su Zimai insists on running out, they would have no choice but to step in to protect her, and everyone could get dragged into this significant racial conflict.
"Captain, what are the three remaining demons of the Seven Deadly Sins?" Su Zimai curiously asked.
"Gluttony, Wrath, Sloth," Ke Qirui replied, "Rest assured, these three demons aren’t particularly powerful. In fact, Wrath is more like a weapon than a demon. It can transform into a sword and shield for other demons to use."
"Sounds like a Pokémon," Su Zimai said, suddenly recalling a creature from ’Pokémon Sword and Shield.’
"Have you brought all of Gu Wenyu’s belongings?" Ke Qirui glanced at Su Zimai and then at the father and son.
"Yes, I’ve brought what needed to be brought. I kept a few of his clothes," Su Zimai nodded, "but I threw away that box of diapers."
"That’s good, you can take them out occasionally for remembrance," Ke Qirui said softly.
She paused for a moment, "Gu Wenyu was quite an interesting person. If only I had realized his disguise earlier, we could’ve been good friends."
Su Zimai was silent for a moment, "By the way... Captain, I want to ask you a question."
"What question?" Ke Qirui raised an eyebrow, curiously looking at her.
"The president of the Chinese Exorcist Association, that’s my grandfather, Su Wei, right?"
As she spoke, Su Zimai lifted her head to look directly into Ke Qirui’s eyes.
Ke Qirui was stunned for a moment, her eyes lowered in silence before a slight smile appeared on her lips.
She slowly said, "At this point, there’s no point in hiding it from you. The president, my adoptive father, is indeed your grandfather, Su Wei. At yesterday’s funeral, he specifically instructed me not to engage with him in front of you."
Gu Qiye and Gu Zhuo both paused, then glanced at each other silently.
They took a deep breath, surprised that Su Wei was indeed the president of the Exorcist Association. The old man truly hid it well, and who knows how much more he was hiding from them.
"I see... Grandfather does care for me, asking you to protect me even though I’ve never met him," Su Zimai said softly.
"Maybe it’s because you resemble his daughter. He mentioned to me that your appearance is very similar to Su Ying when she was young, and your brother has eyes akin to Su Ying’s, so he likes you both very much," Ke Qirui said, taking another puff from the cigarette holder.
Seeing the name "Su Ying," a flicker of light flashed in Gu Zhuo’s eyes.
Su Zimai thought for a moment, "Could it be that after learning the Salvation Society was targeting us, bringing me to Lake Hunting was also his idea?"
