Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 792: Runaway heroes Part 2
Getting caught breaking into a shop was already bad enough, but Luna running away in a frenzied state threw a monkey wrench in their plans of laying low until the hunting group that replied to Nika's broadcast message lost their interest.
It could be argued that the chances of being chased after by an unknown group for such a small reason as a miscommunication were low, but their naive times of believing in the good will of people had long been left behind and they were certain that those hunters were after a reward and would find any excuse to get it.
Spotting the lumbering werewolf in an empty city wasn't difficult at all and catching up with her speed should have been an easy feat for Uriel since he was an entire rank above the werewolf in question. the problem with that was that despite Uriel having his flux reserve almost full he had no means to replenish it and if a fight was to break out he would be at a disadvantage.
Because of that, their only option was to chase after Luna at a distance and avoid any confrontation with her until she was able to regain control of herself.
"You got to hand it to her, for someone who's out of flux she sure has a lot of energy." Nika said as she watched Luna turn over a garbage bin for no other reason than it existing.
"Has something like this ever happened to her before?" Uriel asked.
"How the hell should I know?" Nika scoffed.
"Well, of the two of us you are the closest to her." Uriel replied.
"Really? I was under the impression it was the other way around..." Nika pondered for a couple seconds while Luna climbed on top of a house to howl at the empty sky.
With her snout pointing upwards, a large amount of drool trickled down her neck and chest, causing the otherwise pristine fur to become soiled and sticky.
"Well, this is taking way longer than I expected and if she keeps going like this more and more people will wake up."
"Yeah, one of us should go and calm her down." Nika admitted to which Uriel replied by holding a staring contest with her.
It was obvious they couldn't agree on who was the best suited for the job, but since it was an emergency Uriel grabbed a trite from his pocket and threw it in the air.
"Heads." Nika said before Uriel uncovered the coin.
"Dammit." Uriel let out a grunt before climbing on top of the same house Luna stood and carefully approached her.
It wasn't the first time Uriel had faced Luna in her werewolf form, but this time the situation was different. First, he now knew the werewolf was actually her tiny friend who had trouble communicating and second, because the air of intelligence and imposing magnificence had been replaced by the wildly nature such a beast was expected to hold.
It was as though her wolfish nature had completely overpowered her human side and there was nothing other than instinct guiding her actions.
"On second thought..." Uriel said in a thin voice.
"Just do it!" Nika shouted from beneath, then continued. "I'm a hundred percent she would never hurt you, but even if she did then she would be able to heal you after."
"Stupid Nika, stupid Luna, stupid luck... why do I always get into this situations?" Uriel gulped down his saliva before crouching and beckoning at the creature. "here, here, here... come."
The innocent gesture was replied in an overly aggressive manner by the werewolf who immediately pounced on top of Uriel, pinning him down on the rooftop and rendering him incapable to move. It opened its maw that, despite looking predatory actually carried the sweet smell of the pastries she ate not long before and what Luna did next caused Uriel to scream the loudest he ever had.
Through all the hardships he experienced, all maiming wounds, searing pain and even psychological torture he endured he never screamed as loud as when Luna started to lick his face.
Thinking that things had gone south, Nika crawled up from Uriel's shadow and received a similar treatment, covering them in the gooey substance that was disgustingly filled with pastry crumbs.
The soothing smell of her friends caused Luna to fall asleep casually on top of Uriel.
Just when they thought the problem had been solved, a commanding voice coming off from a megaphone called for them.
"It's the guardia civil, resisting arrest will be considered a felony. Please come down with your hands up in the air."
"Don't shoot, we're coming down. Also, can you please keep it down?" Uriel said and did as they told him.
"We had someone reporting a burglary and several reports of a wild beast set free. Turn yourselves in and..." The man kept going for a while and all Uriel could think at the moment was how easy it would be for them to escape. That, however, would only increase the amount of heat he would get from the authorities in Spain and he couldn't wait to get out of the country.
Sure, the world government's laws were world wide, but a local government had enough power to exile or ban hunters from their cities and that was something Uriel couldn't afford if he wanted to make business in the future.
That got him to realize that just because he was a hunter he didn't need to approach all the problems in such a manner. Essentially, he realized he was as much a hunter as he was the CEO of his own company and as a businessman he had more than enough power to solve the problems.
"Is there any way we can... fix this here and now?" Uriel said, casually hinting at the man by rubbing two fingers together. This stunt was risky with so many witnesses around, but he figured if that failed he could still resort to violence.
"Of course it can!" The man grinned widely, even more so when Uriel grabbed a stack of bills from his wallet and handed it to him, albeit begrudgingly. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Bribing the official was a big chunk of Uriel's remaining bank account and it wasn't something he would like to do in the future, but it was better than the alternative as it allowed him to continue on his way.
Nika insisted that Luna couldn't travel in her current state, but just thinking of spending more money on a hotel made Uriel grimace and he carried on their travel by summoning the Jaguar spirit the minute they were out the city.
"I'm never ever returning to this place." Uriel took a quick look behind him where the previously welcoming sight of the city now looked offensive.
With Luna unconscious and Nika inside his trait, there was no one to reply but the jaguar, who did so by roaring and doubling up his speed along the road.
The more Uriel saw of Europe, the more he wanted to return to America. Things weren't much different there, but he missed the common encounters with packs of low level cryptids and even felt nostalgic about the scenery.
His next stop was a river, where he saw the Jaguar drink water for the first time. It made Uriel wonder if he actually needed water or if it was just out of instinct.
Nika refused to come out of Uriel's museum until the camp was ready, though not without an excuse. While inside Uriel's trait her wounds would recover at a slower pace but she was completely safe from harm. In the outside, her energy signature could draw cryptids near and it was best to only come out if she was able to properly rest.
The soothing noise of the river made sleeping in a tent much easier than out in the open and Uriel finally felt at peace, though being the only combat able in his party meant he couldn't so much as bat an eye and he was forced to keep watch the entire night.
He scanned his surroundings with both his mystical sense and the glasses that allowed him to see flux and wasn't able to find anything.
Just when he was starting to lower his guard, he noticed a huge group of horse raiders coming in at a distance and he alerted Nika who by then had already woken up. She hurried inside of his trait and then Uriel grabbed Luna, though before he could summon his jaguar to make a quick exit a sniper round crossed his cheek painting a red line across his face.
"Don't move a muscle, he missed on purpose." A man's voice could be heard even at the extreme distance they were in, which could only be explained by telepathy.
In any regular circumstance Uriel could have fought his way out or escape easily, but the sniper round did cause him damage despite him being a heavenly rank and he didn't want to think what kind of damage they could cause on an ascended like Luna.
Uriel lifted both hands in the air and had to remain like that all of the five minutes it took their pursuers to reach them. "I give up."
