Reborn as a Landlord
Chapter 1784 - 910: Lian Yaya
Lian Shouyi wanted to add to Lady Zhou’s troubles by demanding the tearing down of the east wing of the Lian Family Old Mansion to build a new house in Luo Family Village. Although Lady Zhou was angry, she was more eager to send Lian Shouyi away as soon as possible, so she didn’t oppose.
Farmstead households often live frugally and cherish physical resources, so using old house materials like wood and bricks to build new houses isn’t uncommon. Of course, during this era, not only farmstead households do this. Even large households and venerable families often do the same.
One of the main reasons for this is that, during this era, things people use, especially those used for building houses, are made of solid materials, durable and not something that can’t be used after a few years.
The Old Mansion of the Lian Family was acquired during the most prosperous and affluent years of Old Master Lian. The entire courtyard was arranged very properly, and all the materials used for the houses and walls were top quality. The east wing and the rooms of the Upper Room used the finest fruit pine, especially the main beams of the houses, which were thick enough for two people to wrap their arms around and specially treated to last a hundred years.
Even now, trying to spend a large amount of money on new materials to build a house might not immediately get you such good stuff.
The only issue is that tearing down the east wing would make the layout of the mansion’s courtyard less proper.
However, since Lian Shouyi requested this and Lady Zhou agreed, naturally, Lian Shouxin, Wu Lang, and Lian Manman wouldn’t say anything.
Thus, the matter of Lian Shouyi’s family moving out of the Old Mansion to live in Luo Family Village was completely decided. Lady Zhou was a quick-tempered person, and seeing the decision made, she could hardly wait a moment and wanted Lian Shouyi to move immediately.
"Move right away, ask people to help, I’ll provide the food," said Lady Zhou. "I’ll also contribute to the rebuilding of the house. But let me make it clear beforehand, from now on, he shouldn’t come to my door anymore. Whatever happens here, good or bad, has nothing to do with him."
"Sever all ties, I won’t rely on him in the future, and he shouldn’t expect to get anything from me anymore."
Lady Zhou’s words were absolute, showing a willingness to suffer losses to quickly rid herself of Lian Shouyi and terminate all ties with this son. Saying this practically meant ending the mother-son relationship.
Lian Shouyi chuckled, seemingly indifferent to Lady Zhou’s words, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.
"Mother, you said you’d contribute some money to me. You’re the wealthy one now, haven’t they always said, ’spending money to avoid disasters’? Don’t stint on me, and I won’t bother to argue with you!" Lian Shouyi replied brazenly.
Lian Shouyi’s thick-skinned comment, akin to a threat, made Lady Zhou’s anger flare yet again. However, it was rare for her to hold back from an outburst, perhaps thinking that she’d soon be rid of Lian Shouyi and didn’t want any more complications.
"You tear down the house and move today; I’ll cover the cost of building your house there," Lady Zhou said breathlessly due to excitement and suppressed anger. "If you delay until tomorrow, I won’t care anymore." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Such a decision was undoubtedly very generous for Lian Shouyi. Though he was satisfied with it,
Lady Zhou restrained herself from being angry, while Lian Shouyi felt he hadn’t achieved his goal yet. Despite being satisfied, he felt somewhat uneasy. Therefore, while agreeing, his large eyes spun about restlessly, thinking of how to further upset Lady Zhou.
Lady Zhou, unfazed by this, hurried to send Lian Shouren and Lian Jizu to find helpers. By this time, Lian Jizu had already returned from town with meat and vegetables.
"It’s perfect we’ve bought groceries, and we can treat everyone to a good meal," eager to remove the thorn from her eye, Lady Zhou became generous.
Lian Shouren and Lian Jizu heard Lady Zhou’s words but dared not go immediately, looking instead at Lian Shouxin and Wu Lang. Wu Lang nodded slightly, and only then did Lian Shouren and Lian Jizu turn and leave.
With things settled like this, all that’s left is to arrange for someone to oversee the process. Thus, Lian Manman prepared to leave. Before she could get up, she saw Lady Zhou send Lian Yaya to pour tea; Lian Shouyi’s eyes lit up upon seeing Lian Yaya.
"Yaya, put the water down. Quickly, go help your mother pack up; we’re moving today," Lian Shouyi grinned as he spoke to Lian Yaya.
