Chapter 79: Tong Zhaodi (II)

"What’s the big deal?" Mother Han raised her head and smacked her son on the back of his head once again with just the right amount of force. "What’s the big deal? You have caused your big brother to lose his bride! If Han Ruochen had married you, then we could have easily made her follow your brother. Once she was in our hands, we had many ways to torment her, but now, do you think that her father would let you marry her?"

Mother Han always had her eyes on Han Ruochen, which was why she never thought of turning her attention to any other woman. Now that Han Ruochen had gotten out of control. What was she even supposed to do at this point? Was she supposed to look for another woman, but with Yang Jianming’s reputation, would another woman be willing to marry him?

Mother Yang was rather flustered.

"Alright, stop with your out-of-control thoughts," said Father Yang as he walked out of the police station. He too had the same worries as his wife because somewhere he agreed with her suggestion when she told him that they should get Han Ruochen married to Yang Jianming, but let her take their eldest son as her husband. Now that the woman had slipped from their grasp, they could only curse their bad luck.

He then turned to look at his stupid son and said to him, "And you, my dear lordship. You’d better restrain your temper and not cause any more trouble. If you land yourself in trouble again, even I will have a hard time getting you out of prison."

Yang Jianming hummed, but he didn’t take the words of his father seriously. He knew that even though his parents had two sons, he was the only normal one. He was the only one who could break the pot and take care of their funerals. So, unless they wanted to lose that privilege, they would have no other choice but to clean up his mess.

Father Yang knew that his son had not taken his words seriously and was rather worried. He hoped that Yang Jianming wouldn’t cause trouble for Han Ruochen, or else who knows what that woman might do.

"Are you hungry?" after Han Ruochen was done dealing with Tong Zhaodi’s wounds. Though she managed to stop the bleeding, there was nothing that Han Ruochen could do about the countless marks on Tong Zhaodi’s body.

"No–"

Before Tong Zhaodi could finish speaking, Old Madam Han exploded. She was truly furious at this point. When she saw the wounds on Tong Zhaodi’s body, she felt like the people in the Tong family were simply inhumane. "Of course you do! Your parents are simply beasts. They don’t even see you as their daughter. Look at you—not a single spot of uninjured skin. If not for the fact that I saw your mother giving birth to you, I would have thought that you were picked up by them."

Old Madam Han sucked in a breath and then said to her, "Why don’t you start living on your own? Talk with the village head and move out. If this goes on, then your parents will kill you."

Tong Zhaodi lowered her head and didn’t dare to say anything. She also wanted to break free from her parents, but she knew that the Tong family was waiting for her bride price to marry her brother off. There was no way they would allow her to break off the relationship with them.

"How about this?" Han Ruochen also understood her worries. She said to Tong Zhaodi, "You can follow me from tomorrow and start collecting seafood with me. In exchange, I will pay you a hundred yuan; is that okay?"

Han Ruochen knew very well that only when a person had money in their hand did they feel confident. Tong Zhaodi was currently relying on her father and brother. With no money or job in her hands, it was no surprise that the woman was lacking confidence. If she had a job that could help her earn money, maybe Tang Zhaodi would be able to gain some confidence and break free of her family. Only when a person had money in their hands could they get the confidence to brave through their difficulties.

"No. I cannot possibly trouble you." Tong Zhaodi knew that Han Ruochen felt sorry for her, but she couldn’t possibly take advantage of her. She knew that Han Ruochen was quite lucky the last time she went to fish, but it didn’t mean that she would be this lucky every time. Tong Zhaodi did not want to become a burden on Han Ruochen.

"Don’t overthink. I am not taking pity on you; I am asking you to work for me because I need someone to help me out." Han Ruochen knew what the woman was thinking about and cleared the air at once.

Tong Zhaodi parted her lips, but she couldn’t bring herself to refuse Han Ruochen. She knew that Han Ruochen was only trying to help her. She nodded and agreed; however, inwardly, she promised that if Han Ruochen didn’t have a bountiful harvest tomorrow, she would refuse to take the money. Since she couldn’t do anything to help Han Ruochen, she shouldn’t do anything to burden her either.

At least that was what Tong Zhaodi thought.

Seeing that the woman had calmed down a little, Old Madam Han went to the kitchen and started cooking. She was still muttering about how ruthless the Tong family was as she cooked a simple meal. After her husband passed away, life became relatively simple. Not many people were willing to exchange seafood with her second son, as they believed that it was better to go to the city and do it. Those foolish people had no idea that even if they received a higher sum in exchange, they still had to waste their money, gas and time.

Her second son saved the expenses of these things, and that was why the price that he offered was low!
