Nighttime. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Nathan Mills had arranged to discuss business with a friend and hadn’t returned home by eight in the evening.

The villa was completely dark, with no lights on, not even a servant present.

It seemed like an unoccupied house, so was he living here?

A Maybach was parked in the yard, with two street lamps casting a warm yellow glow.

Trevor had been waiting since sunset until the night fell, and again from nightfall until the moon rose above the treetops.

All around was still very quiet, with no sound of a car engine, only the occasional chirping of insects and birds.

He glanced at his watch again, just as he was about to call Uncle Mills to ask when he would return, a car’s headlights beamed over.

Trevor turned his head to see a car parked nearby, less than two meters away from his own.

As Nathan Mills’ car came to a stop, he glanced toward the other car’s driver’s seat and happened to see Trevor.

Their eyes met briefly, and they almost simultaneously got out of their cars.

"Have you been waiting long?" Nathan Mills asked somewhat apologetically, "Mr. Trevino, when did you get here?"

"Hello, Uncle Mills." Trevor replied politely with a smile, "You can just call me Trevor, I just arrived myself."

"Please, come in quickly!" Nathan Mills didn’t say much because the winter night’s wind was rather biting. Finishing his sentence, he stepped inside.

Trevor followed closely behind, and as they entered the living room, the entire place immediately lit up; the lights were sensor-activated.

Trevor guessed there might not be a female owner here, otherwise, the lights wouldn’t have stayed off, but just because there wasn’t one tonight doesn’t mean there never was or will be one.

Perhaps it was just a coincidence?

Or maybe the lady of the house was on vacation?

The house was large, with the living room alone covering about two hundred square meters. There really were no servants, and as Nathan Mills brewed tea to serve, he turned and asked, "You don’t have my number? Please, have a seat and make yourself at home."

"I do." Trevor replied.

When he left the hospital today, he saved the number on his father’s phone on purpose.

"Next time you want to find me, make sure to call me first." The middle-aged man looked kindly, "Because sometimes I’m working late at the company, or even staying there."

"Okay." Trevor nodded, thinking, staying at the company?

If a man is this free, he must be single, right?

Sitting on the curved sofa, Trevor looked around the living room’s decor with his deep and gentle eyes, searching for any hint of a female presence.

Having looked around, he didn’t find anything, not even a bouquet of fresh flowers.

But he didn’t dare to make assumptions since nothing official had been said yet. He came specifically today to get an answer.

He wanted to see what the chances were of helping Janelle fulfill her dream.

Trevor knew Janelle wasn’t lacking for money, so giving gifts to win her favor was pointless and rather tacky.

"Go on."

Nathan Mills placed the teapot gently on the coffee table and sat down across from Trevor, "What can I do for you?"

"Uncle." Trevor looked up at him and asked gently, "Have you been single all these years, living in such a big house by yourself?"

Nathan Mills was slightly taken aback, then laughed immediately, "Are you interested in that?"

Then, he picked up the teapot and began pouring tea, "Trevor, you must first tell your uncle, who are you asking for?"

"For myself." He replied almost without thinking, very candidly, "I just want a definite answer."

"No." The middle-aged man chuckled, then shook his head, seeing through him, "You’re asking for Janelle."

Trevor, "..." After a brief pause, he didn’t deny it.

"Even though she didn’t ask you to inquire, you’re asking because of her."

Nathan Mills, with a smile in his eyes, was a very astute person.

Trevor responded with silence.

The middle-aged man picked up his teacup and looked up at him, a hint of expectation in his eyes, asking, "Trevor, did Janelle say anything to you?"
