Chapter 1394: Chapter 1394: The Answer Trevor Wants

Trevor knew it was time to be honest. Meeting the middle‑aged man’s gaze, he felt like his thoughts were seen through in an instant.

Since today was going to be the most honest conversation between two men,

then there was no need for Trevor to hide anything. Only if he himself was honest would Uncle Mills be honest too.

So Trevor gathered himself and told him, "I just asked Janelle a question today."

Nathan Mills listened very seriously and didn’t interrupt, sipping his tea as he looked at him.

"I asked her what her wish was," Trevor said. "I didn’t expect that her biggest wish was for you and her mom to get remarried."

At the mention of marriage, Nathan’s mood sank a little.

After all, that marriage was also the pain of his life. They’d awkwardly gone their separate ways for all these years, and in the blink of an eye he was middle‑aged.

Thinking back now, there was only emotion and regret left. Nathan didn’t speak, as if he were brewing something inside.

Trevor took a sip of tea and spoke again. "But Janelle is very rational. She said you’ve had a second marriage and started a new life of your own. She accepts it and gives you her blessing. It’s just that her wish can only ever stay a wish."

There was a brief silence in the living room. Trevor was a little expectant, and also a little nervous.

"I did remarry, but we divorced again in less than two years," Nathan said with a small smile, calmly and frankly telling him, "So when it comes to marriage, the original wife is still better."

A glimmer of light flashed in Trevor’s eyes. He focused on Uncle Mills. For Trevor, this answer was undoubtedly a ray of light in the dark!

It was just so great!

As long as he was still single, everything would be easier!

Just as Trevor didn’t know whether he should celebrate or sigh about it, Nathan let out a soft sigh, then a smile appeared on his face. "Trevor, what is it you like about Janelle?"

The topic shifted, turning back onto Trevor himself.

Trevor thought carefully about the question from his future father‑in‑law, pondering for about a minute.

He couldn’t find a suitable reason. "I don’t really know, I just like her. It’s a feeling that’s sunk into my heart. I want to be good to her, I want to help her fulfill her wish. It’s that simple."

"My daughter was raised entirely by her mother. She’s got a bit of sharpness in her personality. Are you sure you really like that kind of girl?" Nathan didn’t want his daughter to get hurt.

"To me, that’s just being straightforward. I can accept it." Trevor was truly tolerant. He lifted his eyes and asked, "Uncle Mills, there’s one more question I want to ask you. It might be a bit abrupt and presumptuous."

"It’s fine, go ahead." Nathan felt he could accept anything anyway; sooner or later they would all be one family.

Besides, between men, there was no question that couldn’t be asked.

Trevor took a sip of tea and asked in the most appropriate tone, "What are the chances of you and Mrs. Mills getting back together?"

Nathan had actually asked himself this very question more than once.

How high those chances were actually had nothing to do with him. It mainly depended on Carlotta Sterling, didn’t it?

Seeing that he didn’t answer, Trevor spoke again. "You divorced not long after your second marriage. I’m sure it wasn’t because that lady wasn’t good enough, but because you still couldn’t let go of Mrs. Mills, right?"

Trevor might not have experienced marriage, but he was an adult.

Nathan didn’t deny this point. He answered with a smile on his face.

Trevor didn’t keep asking, because coming over tonight, he’d already gotten the answer he wanted.

If Janelle learned that Mr. Mills was still single, she would definitely be very happy, wouldn’t she? At that thought, Trevor’s heart felt as sweet as if it had been filled with honey.

So the two of them simply chatted about other things—about work, about life, and about Janelle.

Savoring the tea, talking away, the night felt very pleasant, just like a family being together.
