70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman
Chapter 456: Awarded
Two days passed in a flash, Xu Mumu had a lab class today and couldn’t take leave to see the results of the competition. She could only wait until after the experiment to go over there, and by then, the results would be out.
Although she was somewhat nervous, Xu Mumu was quite confident in her younger siblings. At least among the speeches she had heard, theirs were quite outstanding.
After finishing the experiment, Xu Mumu had it checked by the lab instructor, then quickly packed up her things and left, under the envious gazes of other students in the lab.
Exiting the lab, Xu Mumu headed straight for the grand auditorium. Many reporters had come to the auditorium, as well as a lot of students and parents of the participating students, not to mention officials from the education bureau. The auditorium was packed with people.
Xu Mumu could only stand outside and watch. When she arrived, the students who had won were already on stage taking photos.
Among them, Xu Mumu saw her younger siblings. As expected, Xu Jiaojiao’s ranking was a bit better, as she won second prize, while Xu Minglei got third prize.
With these results, Xu Mumu was already very satisfied.
The reporters were frantically capturing this moment. She could already imagine that the newspapers and TV news would be full of reports about the English speech competition for the next couple of days. She might even see the students’ spectacular performances on stage on TV.
Standing in the crowd, looking at the two kids on stage, Xu Mumu felt a sense of pride. These are her siblings; she had led them step by step to reach where they were now.
Their achievements were an affirmation of her efforts.
After receiving their awards, the officials on stage gave several speeches to encourage these children.
Xu Mumu even noticed quite a few representatives from other schools trying to poach these kids, which she found amusing.
As she approached them, the two children were overjoyed to see her coming.
"Sis, weren’t you in class? How did you manage to come over?" When Xu Minglei saw his sister, he was naturally delighted.
"I finished the experiment early, so I came over. You guys did great, and I’m proud of you." Xu Mumu said seriously, raising her hand to pat the two little ones on their heads.
"Big Sis, let’s take a photo together. I’ll take it back to show mom and dad." Xu Jiaojiao held Xu Mumu’s hand, wanting the journalist nearby to take an extra photo.
"Sure." Xu Mumu nodded with a smile, and the journalist also smiled kindly at her. These two little ones are incredibly talented in English, and this young lady seems to be a student at Hua University. He was more than willing to help, as it might establish a good connection.
Xu Mumu stood in the middle, with the two kids on either side, big smiles on their faces, looking somewhat silly.
But the two kids didn’t mind, quite the contrary; they were immensely satisfied.
"Student Xu Mumu, are these two kids your siblings?" asked the education director who happened to be there. Seeing Xu Mumu, he smiled and asked, as he recognized her. It’s quite surprising that her siblings are so outstanding as well. Hua University doesn’t lack foreign language departments, and such talents could certainly be specially recruited.
"Yes, this is my younger brother and cousin, Minglei and Jiaojiao. Kids, this is Director Zhou." Xu Mumu said with a smile, instructing the kids to greet the director. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
The two kids obediently greeted him, although they didn’t quite understand why Director Zhou was there.
"Your siblings are quite impressive. Are they going to high school this year?" Director Zhou asked warmly, noticing that the two were among the youngest in the group of children.
"They’re in the third year of middle school, and their entrance exams are in two months." Xu Mumu replied with a smile.
"Did they skip a grade?" Director Zhou’s smile grew even more gentle.
"Yes, they did." Xu Mumu nodded.
"Little ones, when you go to university, do you want to study at Hua University?" Director Zhou asked the two children.
"Yes, wherever my sister studies, I will study there too." Xu Jiaojiao declared unflinchingly, determined to follow her big sister’s lead.
"You don’t have to learn everything from me. What’s best is what’s suitable for you." Xu Mumu felt a bit troubled, realizing she might have overly influenced their thinking. They seemed intent on learning everything she did, regardless of whether it suited them.
Xu Jiaojiao stuck out her tongue, looking a bit embarrassed at her big sister. She just wanted to follow her sister’s path. Her sister was so awesome, studying in college, already owning her own house, and earning so much money.
Director Zhou, observing how Xu Mumu was guiding Xu Jiaojiao, felt a bit surprised. He agreed that what Xu Mumu said was correct—what’s appropriate is what’s best.
Director Zhou spoke with Xu Mumu for a while, hinting that when her siblings applied to universities in the future, they should consider choosing Hua University.
Xu Mumu brushed it off vaguely, as there was no rush to think about university admission just yet. She felt it was necessary to discuss this more with the kids, to prevent them from blindly following her every step.
Perhaps in the summer, when they went back to their hometown for a while, she could introduce them to other perspectives, so they wouldn’t just follow in her footsteps when it might not suit them.
Having made up her mind, she didn’t discuss it further for now to avoid dampening the kids’ spirits at such a joyful time. It wouldn’t be delightful to spoil their mood by overtalking now.
Back at the residence, Mrs. Liu was already preparing lunch. She prepared a sumptuous meal to celebrate, mainly because she had faith in Xu Mumu. Given that these kids were Xu Mumu’s siblings, they certainly would not fare poorly, so she started preparing early.
Yin Yang had also returned early, congratulating the two children when he saw their certificates.
Among the students, besides Xu Minglei and Xu Jiaojiao, there was another who received an Excellent Award, which was quite remarkable.
The other two who didn’t win weren’t too disappointed, as they had already noticed some of their shortcomings right after their speeches. Not winning was somewhat within their expectations, though they were a bit envious.
Nonetheless, the trip to the Imperial City was enriching, so it wasn’t a loss.
After lunch, Teacher Tang and the others brought up returning home, and after a brief discussion, they planned to head back in three days. Having focused on the competition these past few days, they had yet to enjoy the sights of the Imperial City. In the next couple of days, they intended to buy some local specialties to bring home, as the goods here were much better than in the provincial capital.
Xu Minglei and Xu Jiaojiao decided not to join them in touring the Imperial City, as they had already visited several times and were familiar with it. They didn’t find anything novel to see, so they insisted that Xu Mumu help them select various competition books.
This English speech competition had given them a taste of success, and they were eager to participate in more competitions like this in the future.
