70s Delicate Girl: A Guide to Being a Rich Woman
Chapter 471: Inspection
It’s really inconvenient that there’s no electricity in my hometown.
"I wonder when we’ll finally get electricity here. I really want to enjoy some air conditioning," Xu Mumu said while fanning herself with a palm fan. Even if there’s no air conditioning, an electric fan would be nice.
"I’ll ask Yun Hong to inquire about it tomorrow. There’s already a power station built here, so it’s not impossible to get electricity here soon," Yin Yang mused, pausing his writing. He planned for development in this area, and getting electricity was a must.
"Okay." Xu Mumu nodded. Since she contributed the technology, asking for her hometown to get electricity early wasn’t too much to ask for.
Madam Chen and her group had already cleaned the innards and were sorting things out in the kitchen, preparing to eat them in the evening.
Sun Huiping didn’t join in as she was experiencing morning sickness. The smell made her feel like throwing up.
As for the Xu Jiang brothers, they went to work. The farm work still needed to be done, even though money wasn’t an issue for the family anymore.
Before it got dark, Yin Yang went to a place with a telephone to call Zhou Yunhong, asking him to check about the electricity supply and hopefully expedite it.
When Yin Yang returned, everyone was home, making the courtyard lively. Xu Mumu was munching on a small cucumber, fresh and crisp from their own land, which she really enjoyed.
"Want a bite?" Xu Mumu offered the half-eaten cucumber in her hand to Yin Yang.
Yin Yang bit into it from Xu Mumu’s hand, finding the taste genuinely good.
"It’s all arranged. It should be sorted out within the next few days, then someone will come for an inspection," Yin Yang said warmly.
"That fast?" Xu Mumu was momentarily surprised.
"Yes, the county official has some past connections, plus you’re the one who provided the technology, so it was easy to achieve," Yin Yang explained, taking another bite. The cucumber was tender and crisp, and being fed by his wife made it taste even better.
"No wonder you could live so comfortably when you first moved to the countryside," Xu Mumu raised a brow slightly, impressed by his skills.
"Yes, but his achievements over the past two years should lead to a promotion. It’s uncertain if he’ll be promoted locally or elsewhere," Yin Yang chuckled. Back then, his family situation was unique, and that person couldn’t openly assist him, but reaching this point was already quite good—ultimately, it was just a matter of mutual interest.
Compared to other things, he felt that mutual interest was somewhat more stable, because dealing with those old bureaucrats could be risky and could lead to one’s own downfall.
He had evidence of misconduct, which put him in a position to manage things effectively, ensuring courteous interactions with him.
He hadn’t shared much of this with Xu Mumu, knowing she was aware he wasn’t a saint, but he wanted her life to remain uncomplicated, filled with joy, and pursuing her own desires.
Xu Mumu understood this too—having someone who’s willing to shield her from the storms, she wasn’t going to be pretentious about it, better to enjoy every day, right? 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Just as Madam Chen and her group were buying vegetables in preparation for a feast, county officials came for an inspection.
Zhao Guodong was initially puzzled upon receiving this news, but once he comprehended the situation, joy took over, as the benefits of electricity supply were immense. Zhao Guodong eagerly led the visitors on the inspection.
Electricity couldn’t be supplied to just the Red River Team alone; adjacent teams were interconnected, prompting the decision to electrify them all at once.
Providing electricity now was much more accessible compared to before. Of course, electricity costs were still high, but cheaper than before solar power was harnessed.
During work hours, others noticed Zhao Guodong leading the officials for an inspection, and the bolder ones curiously inquired.
However, Zhao Guodong restrained them—it wasn’t finalized yet, so false information couldn’t spread.
The officials merely smiled, inquiring about the villagers’ lives without elaborating much. Though the decision had been made, causing a big stir was unnecessary during work hours, as fieldwork couldn’t be neglected.
Xu Mumu was playing with several children by the riverside, while Yin Yang led a few boys fishing in the river.
Since it wasn’t the time for flooding, the fish in the river were few, and after playing for quite a while, only a few fish were in the wooden bucket, the biggest just three fingers wide, not really a big catch.
A few people nearby were discussing the leaders’ inspection. Xu Mumu glanced over at Yin Yang, noting the efficiency.
Yin Yang wasn’t overly concerned with the matter. To expedite electricity supply, he had offered many things, which, in his view, were worthwhile trades—it had motivated everyone else.
The kids were naturally more interested in the fish in the river.
Only Xu Minglei and a few others attempted to catch fish, while quite a few kids gathered to watch. The fish were challenging to catch, hence few tried, with most merely playing with water by the river.
However, many parents forbade them from coming alone, as despite the shallow sides, the river’s middle was quite deep—what if someone accidentally drowned?
"Mumu, what’s the Imperial City like?" asked a little girl sitting not far from Xu Mumu, weaving a flower crown, looking at Xu Mumu with curiosity.
Xu Mumu recognized the girl as Tiedan’s cousin, named Zhao Xiaowen.
"The Imperial City, ah, it’s very bustling..." Xu Mumu began to describe to the children, indicating that kids from the village needed to study if they wanted to venture out. Fortunately, the village people were more attentive to this now. At least, the girls with Xu Mumu were literate and attended the elementary school in the team.
Listening to Xu Mumu’s descriptions made the little girls utterly fascinated.
"Mumu, is university fun?" Zhao Xiaowen asked with bright eyes, this outside world sounding much more appealing than what Tiedan Brother had told her; Mumu’s version was far better.
"University isn’t for playing. If you have the skills to get into college, you’ll find out that there are many students and you can learn different knowledge; after graduating, you even get assigned a job," Xu Mumu explained gently. Noticing the longing in the young girls’ eyes, she elaborated further.
In the village, gender preference existed, and girls didn’t enjoy the same benefits as boys. Although it’s improved, she hoped these children would at least reach high school, potentially securing decent jobs.
Upon hearing about job assignments, the girls’ eyes almost sparkled. Any rural child longed to move to the city, which must seem like a paradise in their imagination.
