A Core Ship From The Start
Chapter 1993 - 1345: A Sinister Past (The Catworm Rolling Around on the Bed)
"I guess that’s kind of right."
In Duanmu Huai’s memory, a traditional Japanese mansion was similar to a courtyard house, all being one-story buildings. However, as Shajuye mentioned, while it’s impossible to build tall buildings, you can dig a basement. It’s secretive and convenient—who wouldn’t like that?
As for whether this Western-style house has a basement... Duanmu Huai glanced at Blondie, who was momentarily stunned.
"Basement? I know there’s a wine cellar under the kitchen, but there doesn’t seem to be a basement anywhere else..."
"Well, let’s go take a look first."
There was no ace detective among them—all were mostly clueless about the current situation. But with Duanmu Huai leading, the others didn’t oppose. So they went down to the second floor and then returned to the first floor. However, as they just descended the stairs, they saw the Social Man approaching with a dour expression.
"Hey, where’s your old dog gone? Where did it run off to?"
Looking at Social Man, Blondie couldn’t help but mock him, and the latter glared at him before looking at Duanmu Huai nearby—he didn’t speak.
Or rather, he dared not speak.
"What’s it to you? Where’s Meijia?"
"Missing, we’re looking for her too. At least we aren’t like someone who’s only concerned about their dog... Huh? What’s that smell?"
Just as Blondie planned to mock Social Man a few more times, suddenly a fragrant aroma wafted over, catching everyone off guard. Then they followed the scent and... reached the dining room.
When Blondie pushed open the dining room door, he saw lunch already laid out. It seemed to be steak, and the roasted steak emitted a rich fragrance, making their mouths water uncontrollably.
"Is this lunch?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Everyone looked surprised, and Blondie even dashed directly into the adjoining kitchen.
"Sankawa Granny, Lady Ryōbu, are you there?"
Blondie shouted while pushing open the kitchen door, but the kitchen was empty, and the utensils looked clean and tidy, as if they hadn’t been used at all.
Next, everyone followed Blondie to the wine cellar below the kitchen for a quick look—no one was inside there either.
"Really strange."
Exiting the wine cellar, Blondie appeared puzzled.
"The meal must have been made by Sankawa Granny and them, but where are they?"
"Either way, let’s eat first."
At this moment, Spicy Girl grabbed Blondie’s arm and complained.
"I’m hungry..."
As she mentioned, the others also felt their stomachs growling. No wonder—since they barely ate breakfast before hearing a scream, and then ran around looking for people, they were starving. Now, smelling the roasted steak, their stomachs rumbled noisily.
"Why don’t we eat first and then continue searching."
Blondie wiped his mouth, suggesting.
But just as he finished speaking, Social Man snorted coldly.
"Foolish."
"Who are you cursing?"
It was clear Blondie and Social Man didn’t get along. Hearing Social Man speak, Blondie snapped back. The Social Man adjusted his tie, looking at Blondie as if he were an idiot.
"I’m talking about you, think carefully. Someone’s already dead in this Western-style house, and Meijia is missing. None of us have a motive for the crime—except those two maids! After all, that woman wanted to investigate the ritual and got killed, and Meijia disappeared afterward. You know very well that every birthday ritual is controlled by those two women, so only they have the motive to commit murder and take Meijia! And who knows if the food here is poisoned? Dare you eat it?"
"Uh... This... "
Honestly, Social Man’s reasoning made sense, and everyone’s expressions changed slightly. Indeed, as Social Man said, the people here had no motive. Duanmu Huai and Shajuye were Meijia’s friends, here to celebrate her birthday, and knew nothing about Bai Fan Family’s ritual. The others only knew about this ritual, but apart from that moronic Guy with glasses, they didn’t think much about it.
Under these circumstances, they really didn’t have the motive to kill someone investigating the ritual—only those two maids working here had such motive. And having lived here continuously, they surely knew more about the place than anyone else. If there’s some hidden chamber or secret passage in the house unknown to outsiders, it wouldn’t be surprising!
Following this logic, it’s not outrageous to think they might want to poison everyone, especially since they can’t leave the house due to the downpour outside. Once the rain stops, these people could leave and call the police—then the police would definitely investigate those two maids.
But if they killed everyone, they could make up whatever story they wanted!
Considering this, everyone hesitated, unsure whether to eat the sizzling steaks.
Blondie glanced at the sneering Social Man, then at the steaks, finally gritting his teeth and steeling his heart.
"Eat! Why not eat! I’d rather be a full ghost than die of hunger! You’re talking nonsense! Maybe there’s no poison at all!"
While saying this, Blondie sat down, cut a piece of meat, and started eating.
"Mmm, delicious, so fragrant!"
Uncertain if it was due to hunger or genuinely tasty, Blondie ate with great satisfaction, savoring each bite and occasionally sipping wine, exuding, elegance. Seeing Blondie eat without incident, Spicy Girl hesitated momentarily but then sat down next to Blondie and started eating as well. Duanmu Huai also sat across from Blondie, beginning to enjoy his lunch.
