Chapter 904 - 208: "Rice"-Shaped Railway

It must be said that the use of Black laborers has greatly improved the quality of life for East African railway workers, and to some extent, reduced labor intensity.

Of course, in recent years, as the number of Black laborers has decreased and the population of local citizens has increased, East African society has felt some pressure in various sectors other than agriculture.

However, with the steady progress of industrialization and the prosperity of import and export trade, East Africa has been actively introducing advanced production tools, attempting to reduce production costs through technical means.

Take the railway system as an example, a large number of jacks, railway construction vehicles, and better quality construction tools have been purchased.

Of course, the railway system could do this largely because of the significant investment by the East African Government in the railway, as it is one of the few key industrial sectors.

...

While railway workers in New Frankfurt City were working overtime to build the railway between New Frankfurt City and Rhein City.

The "rice" character-shaped railway system in New Frankfurt City is also taking shape, and New Frankfurt City will become the first major railway hub connecting the entire country in East Africa.

Logans, the mayor of New Frankfurt City: "As early as the mid-phase of Central Railway construction, a cross-shaped line had already been formed on the Central Railway, stretching east to Dar es Salaam, west to Manggu City, going north to Jisan City, and going south to New Hamburg Port."

"And until now, with the integration of Angola and Mozambique, the last obstacles to railway construction have been removed, finalizing the layout of our country's railway system."

"Our New Frankfurt City is the central hub of the national railway network, radiating across the country through eight lines, reaching north to the Azande Plateau, east to the East African coastal plains and the East African Plateau, south to the South African Plateau, and west to Angola and Southwest Africa."

"Except for the Southwest African region, all other areas are the core economic regions of our country, and all major plateaus, except the Ethiopian Highlands, are within the radiation range of New Frankfurt through the railway."

East Africa is a plateau country, with plateau economics accounting for more than seventy percent of East Africa's economy. Therefore, controlling the East African plateau is equivalent to controlling the economic lifeline and the majority of the population of the country.

The traffic advantage of New Frankfurt City's location is reflected in this point, making it the core point connecting the major plateau regions of East Africa, except for the Ethiopian Highlands.

As for the Ethiopian Highlands, its share in the East African economy is not high. After all, it is located on the border, with mountainous terrain, the East African Rift, and other factors, so compared to other plateau regions in East Africa, it is just slightly better than Southwest Africa and the Azande Plateau.

Regarding the mayor's words, the officials of New Frankfurt City are naturally well aware of the city's important position in the national transportation system.

"Mr. Mayor, now that the royal family and the central government have decided to build a new capital in New Frankfurt City, this is another opportunity for our city."

In response to the subordinate's words, Logans was well aware and said: "New Frankfurt City rose because of the railway, so in the future, New Frankfurt City will surely take on the role of the capital's transportation hub. Therefore, continuing to promote the construction of the 'rice' character-shaped railway is a long-term task for the government."

In German, there is no pictographic character like "rice," so in East Africa, the name of the "rice" character-shaped railway is actually a "foreign product." According to unofficial sources, it was personally named by the crown prince who is proficient in Oriental studies.

Currently, there are a total of eight railway lines that have been completed or are under construction in New Frankfurt City:

Dar es Salaam City—New Frankfurt City

Kisangani City—New Frankfurt City

Luanda City—New Frankfurt City

Benguela City—New Frankfurt City

Bela City—New Frankfurt City

Kilimane City—New Frankfurt City

New Hamburg Port City—New Frankfurt City

Whale Bay Port City—New Frankfurt City

Currently, except for the Kilimane City—New Frankfurt City and Whale Bay Port City—New Frankfurt City, which have not yet begun, all others have been completed.

Kilimane City and Bela City are both coastal port cities in Mozambique, and Kilimane City is located in northern Mozambique, north of the Zambezi River.

The Kilimane City—New Frankfurt City railway is actually also known as the "Zambezi Railway," starting from Kilimane City in the northern Zambezi River Delta, passing through Tete City along the Zambezi River, and finally connecting to New Frankfurt City through the Luangwa Valley.

The role of this railway is actually to fill the transportation gap between the Zambezi River and Lake Malawi, as the Zambezi River Valley and Lake Malawi are both regions with fairly good conditions, and both Tete and downstream Kilimane City are important cities in Mozambique's history.

The Whale Bay Port City—New Frankfurt City railway, also known as the Southwest Railway, is currently under survey and research due to crossing the desert. Due to the poor economic conditions in Southwest Africa, the along-the-line economic value is not significant, so its planned construction date is relatively later, and it will take quite some time for the Whale Bay Port railway to connect inland.

New Frankfurt City being able to become the most important railway hub in East Africa is still thanks to the construction of the Central Railway. Among its "rice" character-shaped railways, five lines come directly from the Central Railway, and the cities along the lines are very important in East Africa, including Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, and Harare. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

The other three are also closely related to the Central Railway. For example, the Bela City—New Frankfurt City railway was formed by connecting the Habei railway to the Central Railway.

Similarly, the Whale Bay railway connects to the Central Railway from Bulawayo, with only the Kilimane City railway directly connecting New Frankfurt City as a new line.

Logans said: "The railway hub is our New Frankfurt City's greatest advantage, and with the possibility of becoming a Rhein City transportation hub in the future, it is a priority to attract a batch of advanced equipment manufacturing industries to settle in New Frankfurt City, creating a national center city in the inland that could rival Dar es Salaam and Mombasa."

New Frankfurt City's ambition is undoubtedly large, as it is currently the strongest purely in terms of land transportation. However, chasing after Dar es Salaam and Mombasa might be feasible, but surpassing them will be quite challenging.

At least before other East African port cities develop, the status of Dar es Salaam City and Mombasa City is hard to shake, especially Mombasa, which drives the entire north and is the only good outlet to the sea for the northern region.

In this aspect, Dar es Salaam City falls short, firstly because it has too many competitors. Apart from the East African Plateau region, most of the inland areas now have increased options, including Luanda, Benguela, and Bela. The central regions can use these three ports to go to sea, and Dar es Salaam City is not a necessity.

And corresponding to Mombasa on the west of the African continent, the Atlantic Ocean coast belongs to other countries' colonies, and East Africa has no outlet to the sea there, further hindered by the natural barrier of the Congo rainforest, thus obstructing transportation development.

Therefore, most northern provinces wanting to go to sea, without leaving the country, can only opt for Mombasa as the exit point, including the Sigmaringen Royal Territory as well.
