Chapter 105: Chapter 105: Going to Find Him at All Costs

The next second, she suddenly shot up and ran for the door.

"Evie! Where are you going?"

Mia Kendall quickly chased after her, grabbing her arm. "Didn’t you two break up?"

But Eve Vaughn broke down, crying and shouting, "But I love him!"

Mia Kendall stared at her in shock. This was the first time she had ever seen Eve Vaughn so out of control.

Even back when Mrs. Lawson asked her to donate her liver, she hadn’t cried like this. It was as if her entire world was collapsing.

Eve Vaughn thought about the news report—Mason Lawson had been hit by a bullet. Her mind went blank, a buzzing sound filling her ears.

She just wanted to be by his side immediately. Even a single glance would be enough.

Mia Kendall could see her desperation and decided not to dwell on whether Mason Lawson was a scumbag or not. After all, this was a matter of life and death.

So, she said, "My car is parked at your school’s entrance. Come back with me, and I’ll take you to the hospital. The news said Mason Lawson was attacked at the airport and taken to a nearby hospital. That should be Rivaster Central Hospital."

"There’s no time! I’ll take a taxi."

Not wanting to waste a single second, Eve Vaughn ran straight to the roadside and hailed a cab.

On the way, she was so anxious that she couldn’t stop crying. The driver asked sympathetically, "Young lady, has something happened to a family member?"

Eve Vaughn gave a soft "mhm" in response.

The driver sped up a little and tried to console her, "Don’t cry. I’ve had plenty of passengers like you. What’s the use of crying? You should be thinking of a solution, talking to doctors, and seeing if there’s a better treatment. That’s what really matters."

"Mhm, thank you."

Eve Vaughn wiped her tears. ’Mason probably wouldn’t want to see me crying like this, would he?’ she thought. ’What if it’s not a big deal? Crying like this now... isn’t that just asking for bad luck?’

When they finally arrived at Rivaster Central Hospital, Eve Vaughn threw open the car door and sprinted inside.

Because Mason Lawson being shot was a major incident, word was that many people from the Lawson family had come, creating quite a commotion.

So, as soon as Eve Vaughn asked, she learned that Mason Lawson was currently in the emergency surgery department.

Not only that, but specialists from every department in the hospital had gathered in emergency surgery for a consultation.

Eve Vaughn recklessly rushed in and saw a large crowd gathered around the entrance of one of the rooms.

’That must be Mason Lawson’s room,’ she thought.

Just as she was about to walk forward, a hand suddenly grabbed her.

Startled, Eve Vaughn turned around and saw it was Hamilton Hale.

"Doctor Hale?"

She was so relieved she started crying again. "You’re here too? Right, are you here for Mason Lawson’s consultation?"

Hamilton Hale pulled her directly in the opposite direction. "Come with me. We’ll talk in a bit."

Hamilton Hale then led her to the on-call room in the emergency surgery department and closed the door.

Seeing that Eve Vaughn’s eyes were swollen from crying, Hamilton Hale pulled out a few tissues and handed them to her.

Eve Vaughn didn’t take them, asking anxiously, "How is he? How is he really?! Is he badly hurt?"

Hamilton Hale said calmly, "He’s fine. The bullet missed anything vital. It went through his shoulder. His life is not in danger."

Eve Vaughn didn’t believe him. "If he’s not badly hurt, why are so many people from the Lawson family here? Doctor Hale, can you do me a favor and let me go in to see him?"

For some reason, Hamilton Hale thought of the conversation between Eric Kendall’s group and Mason Lawson at the bar that night.

If Eve Vaughn went in at a time like this, all the Lawsons would find out.

It was almost certain someone would use this to stir up trouble.

Especially the main branch of the Lawson family. They had long been denied core power within the Lawson Group and had been waiting for a chance to get some leverage on Mason Lawson.

Therefore, Hamilton Hale said to her sternly, "You can’t go. At least, not right now."

Just then, footsteps and the sound of conversation came from outside the door.

"Joanna, dear, don’t worry. Mason will be fine. The doctors said it’s not a big problem."

The unfamiliar voice made Eve Vaughn curious.

She quietly opened the door a crack, just enough to see outside.

In the hallway, Joanna Sullivan was walking hurriedly, also crying her eyes out.

The person consoling her was a middle-aged, dignified woman wearing an expensive cashmere coat. She carried herself with an air of elegance.

But Hamilton Hale closed the door again. He said to her, "That’s Mason’s adoptive mother, The Third Madam, Old Mr. Lawson’s third wife. Mason’s biological mother died from complications during childbirth, so he was later placed in her care. As for Joanna Sullivan... she’s The Third Madam’s biological niece."

Eve Vaughn thought for a long time before she could sort out the relationships.

No wonder The Third Madam and Joanna Sullivan seemed so close just now.

But at a time like this, the one who could come visit Mason Lawson was Joanna Sullivan, not her.

A wave of desolation washed over her. She asked Hamilton Hale, "Did they... get back together?"

Hamilton Hale was slightly taken aback. "I don’t know if they’ve gotten back together, but don’t overthink it. The reason I’m not letting you go out there is because with all the Lawsons gathered, your presence would only cause unnecessary complications."

Eve Vaughn curved her lips into a self-deprecating smile. "I know I’m just a source of trouble for Mr. Lawson. Doctor Hale, are you sure his life isn’t in danger? Give me your word."

Hamilton Hale nodded. "I give you my word. Not only is his life not in danger, it’s not even considered a serious injury. So many Lawsons are here because their original target was Old Mr. Lawson. That’s why they came to visit."

"Okay, I believe you." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Eve Vaughn forced a smile at him. "I’ll get going then. Please don’t tell him I was here."

’As long as he’s okay, as long as he’s alive, that’s all that matters.’
