Chapter 68: Chapter 68: A 90-Degree Bow of Apology

It dawned on Sharon Lowe, and she instantly felt like she’d been played.

"Eve Vaughn, you did this on purpose!"

Sharon Lowe rushed over, pointing at her. "You tricked me into coming here on purpose, didn’t you? You just wanted to humiliate me, to show me that my mom works as a housekeeper in your home!"

Mrs. Linton quickly tried to block her daughter. "Sharon, you can’t speak to Miss Vaughn like that. You just can’t."

"Miss Vaughn? She’s just a bitch! A malicious, scheming bitch!"

Sharon Lowe was trembling with rage. She was utterly mortified. What Eve Vaughn did made her feel as if she’d been stripped naked and thrown onto the street for everyone to laugh at.

Eve Vaughn shrugged. "You can’t blame me. You were the one who insisted on coming with me to get money from home, weren’t you?"

Mrs. Linton froze and asked Sharon Lowe, "What money were you getting from Miss Vaughn?"

Sharon Lowe exploded at her mother, "What do you think? The bags and clothes! This is all your fault! You’re so useless, working as a housekeeper in someone else’s house and making me a laughingstock."

In her agitation, she shoved Mrs. Linton hard to the side.

Mrs. Linton fell onto the tiled floor, struggling to push herself back up.

Seeing this, Eve Vaughn rushed over and helped Mrs. Linton to her feet.

Mrs. Linton never imagined that, at a time like this, her own daughter would shove her so heartlessly to the ground and just stand by watching coldly.

Instead, the one who helped her up was Eve Vaughn.

Eve Vaughn accused her, "Sharon Lowe, are you even human? That’s your mother! She’s working as a housekeeper for your sake, isn’t she? And those things she took—that was for your vanity, right?"

Sharon Lowe yelled, "Cut the crap! Eve Vaughn, you just wanted to see me humiliated, didn’t you? Fine, you’ve seen it! I’m not some rich princess. My mom’s a housekeeper and my dad’s a security guard. Happy now?"

Mrs. Linton looked at her daughter pleadingly. "Sharon, stop. Please, don’t say any more! This was our fault to begin with."

"What did we do wrong?"

Sharon Lowe broke down. "Being poor is your fault! I was just born into the wrong family! Besides, rich people have so many luxury goods they can’t even use them all. So what if you took a few for me? This is just Eve Vaughn trying to mess with me, deliberately picking a fight!"

Eve Vaughn said coldly, "Even now, you still think you did the right thing? Sharon Lowe, believe it or not, I can call the police right now. Your livestream videos are the evidence—proof that you stole my things!"

With that, she had already taken out her phone.

Terrified, Mrs. Linton quickly grabbed Eve Vaughn’s wrist to stop her. "Miss Vaughn, you can’t call the police, please don’t! If you report this, our Sharon will be expelled from school! Her life will be over!"

As she finished speaking, she suddenly dropped to her knees before Eve Vaughn.

"Mrs. Linton..."

Eve Vaughn was startled and tried to help her up, but Mrs. Linton refused to rise.

She said through her tears, "It’s all my fault, all of it! I didn’t raise my daughter right. I enabled her. I’m the one who stole the items. If you’re going to call the police, report me."

Eve Vaughn took a deep breath to calm herself.

Suppressing her anger, she said, "Mrs. Linton, please get up first. Let’s talk properly about how to handle this."

Mrs. Linton shakily got to her feet, her head bowed in utter shame.

Eve Vaughn then turned her icy gaze toward Sharon Lowe.

Because Eve had just threatened to call the police, Sharon was now panicking. All her previous bravado was gone, and she didn’t even dare to meet Eve Vaughn’s eyes.

"Sharon Lowe, what are you going to do?" Eve Vaughn asked. "You have two options. One, I call the police. Two, you write a letter of guarantee, explaining the cause and effect of you stealing my bags and clothes, and promise you will never do it again."

Sharon Lowe obviously couldn’t choose the first option, but she didn’t want to pick the second one either.

After writing the letter, she would be admitting to everything she’d done. Wouldn’t that be the same as handing Eve Vaughn leverage over her?

How could she ever hold her head high in front of Eve Vaughn again?

Sharon Lowe remained silent, but Mrs. Linton said, "Miss Vaughn, I’ll make Sharon write a letter to admit her mistake. Please don’t be angry anymore. I’ll have her write it right now!"

Persuaded by Mrs. Linton, Sharon Lowe had no choice but to write the letter of guarantee.

’This is the most humiliating moment of my life!’

Half an hour later, Mrs. Linton brought the letter over. "Miss Vaughn, please take a look. Is this alright? If you’re not satisfied, I’ll have her revise it."

Eve Vaughn glanced over it, then put the letter away. "This will do."

Mrs. Linton lowered her head guiltily. "Miss Vaughn, I don’t have the face to stay here anymore. As for your things, I’ll calculate their value. I’ll pay you back, even if I have to sell everything I own."

Eve Vaughn thought for a moment. "Mrs. Linton, you can stay. From now on, I’ll deduct a sum from your salary each month until the debt is paid off. Would that be acceptable?"

Mrs. Linton couldn’t believe it. She asked excitedly, "Really?"

After all, the salary Mason Lawson offered was generous, and she was the only housekeeper, so she didn’t have to deal with any workplace drama. Mrs. Linton felt she would never find a job like this anywhere else.

She never expected that Eve Vaughn would still be willing to keep her after she had made such a mistake.

Mrs. Linton began to sob, choking out, "I’m so sorry!"

Eve Vaughn sighed. "I trusted you very much before, and I never thought you would do something like this. But after seeing Sharon Lowe today, I understand how difficult things must be for you. However, constant indulgence and spoiling can ruin a person."

Mrs. Linton nodded emphatically. "Miss Vaughn, I’ll remember your words. I truly don’t have the face to see you again. Our Sharon has caused you so much trouble at school, yet you’re willing to let it go."

"I’m not letting it go. I hold grudges." Eve Vaughn directed her next words intentionally at Sharon Lowe. "In any case, I have her letter of guarantee. If she ever dares to cross me again, I definitely won’t let her off the hook!"

Mrs. Linton quickly pulled her daughter over. "Hurry up and bow to Miss Vaughn. Apologize properly. Miss Vaughn was magnanimous enough to give us a second chance. You can’t mess up again."

In the end, Mrs. Linton practically had to force Sharon Lowe’s head down to make her give Eve Vaughn a ninety-degree bow.

After bowing, she hesitated for a moment before asking, "Are you... going to tell our classmates about this? If you do, I’ll just die."
