After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 201: Can’t Even Be a Person
Brian Sherman and Selina Zelia exchanged a worried glance.
What else could they do?
They had already made numerous calls to the property management office, demanding they negotiate with Yancy Shaw to take down the LCD screen. But they had offended too many people over the years. The management office just said they would resolve it and never took any action!
"Close the doors and windows, put on earplugs, and don’t listen or look!"
Living so miserably in her own home, Sharon Sherman felt incredibly wronged, but there was no other way.
Brian Sherman’s family hastily drew the curtains and put on their earplugs. They huddled together in the dark room, just staring at each other.
They were in their own home, yet they had to live like thieves.
Sharon Sherman’s tears started falling again, drop by drop.
Just as the three of them were wallowing in misery, the sound of someone kicking the door, BAM BAM BAM, came from outside.
But the Shermans had all put on earplugs to block out the noise from outside.
It wasn’t until the door was about to be kicked in that the family finally rushed downstairs.
They opened the door to see Chad Jennings, Yvonne Sherman, and Joanna Sherman.
All three were wearing sunglasses, looking like a triad.
Spotting Brian Sherman, Yvonne Sherman took off her sunglasses and asked with an icy expression, "What’s wrong with you people? Hanging up on me is one thing, but you don’t even answer the door after I’ve been knocking for so long?"
Then she commanded, "Joanna is tired. Sharon, clear out your room and let her rest in it for a few days."
Sharon Sherman had already been utterly humiliated because of Joanna Sherman. Now this woman was here to take over her room? She couldn’t stand it any longer and snapped, "No way! I’m not giving my room to anyone!"
"Sharon Sherman, are you rebelling?" Joanna Sherman glared.
Sharon was usually quite afraid of her, but right now she felt wronged to the point of breaking and blurted out, "It was humiliating enough without you here! Now that you’ve come, I can’t even show my face!"
"What nonsense!" Yvonne Sherman was clearly displeased with Sharon’s outburst.
She turned to Brian Sherman and Selina Zelia. "You’re both well aware of who owns this house, aren’t you? You won’t even give Joanna one room to stay in? Are you trying to make me take it back?"
Brian Sherman quickly said, "Yvonne, it’s not that we don’t want you to stay. It’s just that Yancy Shaw is deliberately trying to humiliate us. He’s stirred up so much trouble that even we can’t bear to live here anymore."
"Sharon was actually just being considerate, worried that Joanna would be upset by it all."
"What has Yancy Shaw done?"
Yvonne Sherman, afraid of attracting attention, had told Chad Jennings to drive the car to the back gate.
The back gate was just a small entrance, and the road leading to it was very secluded.
So they hadn’t run into anyone, and they didn’t know what had happened.
Sharon Sherman stomped angrily to the window, yanked open the tightly drawn curtains, and snapped, "See for yourself!"
Chad Jennings and Yvonne Sherman looked over together.
When they saw the screen across the way, they both gasped.
Joanna Sherman also saw herself in the video, surrounded by Sharon Sherman and her friends. They were jumping and writhing, shouting at her, "Congratulations! You’re amazing! Joanna Sherman is number one!"
She had felt humiliated enough at the time. Reliving it now, the shame was twofold.
Worse, so many people were standing below the screen, all pointing at her in the video, whispering to each other, and doubling over with laughter.
She didn’t need to ask to know they were all calling her an idiot.
Joanna Sherman lunged forward, shoved Sharon Sherman aside, and gripped the window frame tightly with both hands.
Her fingernails snapped with a series of sharp cracks.
"Whoa there," Chad Jennings muttered, covering his face.
’This is so embarrassing. Mortifyingly embarrassing!’
Yvonne Sherman’s face was dark and grim. She rounded on Sharon, scolding, "Look what you’ve done! It’s one thing for you to be a fool, but you dragged Joanna down with you to be humiliated!"
Sharon felt extremely wronged. "If you hadn’t issued that announcement, Auntie, how would we have been fooled?"
Yvonne Sherman had misled them herself, and now she was blaming them for doing the wrong thing. Who could accept that?
"Isn’t that the truth? Who issues an announcement about a successful launch before the rocket has even taken off? You made our Sharon lose so much face for nothing."
Yvonne Sherman was always ordering them around, and Selina Zelia had long been resentful.
She hadn’t said anything before because Yvonne brought them benefits.
But now that they were all disgraced, yet Yvonne was still acting so arrogant, Selina wasn’t having it anymore.
Yvonne Sherman’s face twitched and tightened, but she knew she had been too hasty in this matter and couldn’t argue back.
Only Chad Jennings was still fuming.
He pushed the door open and darted out, running to the Shaw family’s gate. He put his hands on his hips and started banging on it.
The gate opened, revealing Yancy Shaw’s face.
"Yancy Shaw, take that screen down right now!" Chad Jennings said furiously. "This is a violation of privacy! If you don’t take it down, I’ll sue you!"
Yancy Shaw gave him an icy glance. "This video was filmed in a public place. The algorithm keeps recommending it, and the system is playing it automatically. How is that my fault?"
"Why don’t you try to find a way to get those people to delete the video?"
Chad Jennings: "..."
’There are so many videos. Does he think I can just get them all deleted?’
He knew perfectly well that Yancy Shaw was lying, but he couldn’t find a single reason to refute him.
He cursed aloud, "You’re a grown man, how can you bully the younger generation? Joanna and Sharon just made a small mistake. If you drive them to their deaths, will you take responsibility?"
"Weren’t you the one who drove my sister to her death? Did you take responsibility?"
Putting up a screen to play a humiliating video wasn’t in Yancy Shaw’s nature, but he didn’t object to other members of his family doing it.
"My sister did nothing wrong. She gave you her whole heart, and you still bullied her. So why can’t I bully your people?"
Yancy Shaw was making it crystal clear he intended to bully them, and Chad Jennings was so angry he could only roll his eyes.
People who have done many bad things are always particularly sharp. Noticing that people were paying attention to their conversation, he feared they would find out about his past and snapped, "What nonsense are you spouting! None of that has anything to do with me. Stop slandering me!"
"If it’s slander, then why is it that my sister married you twenty-six years ago, but your illegitimate daughter is twenty-five years old?"
Yancy Shaw knew he had hit a nerve and deliberately raised his voice.
Chad couldn’t explain this, so he could only change the subject. "Haven’t I already told you? It was your sister who forced us apart."
After all, it had been so long that no one could verify the truth. He wasn’t afraid.
"Forced you with what? We live in a society with laws. If you didn’t agree, you could have called the police. Did you?"
"The t-times were different back then."
"Then why don’t you do us the favor of explaining exactly how the times were different? How could my sister, an ordinary person, so easily control Yvonne Sherman, the daughter of a wealthy tycoon?"
When Chad Jennings and Brianna Shaw got married, Brianna was just starting her business, and her resources were nowhere near a match for the Sherman Family’s.
The confrontation between the two had already attracted a lot of attention. Yancy Shaw’s words piqued everyone’s curiosity even more, and the people who had been watching the screen all started to gather around them.
Everyone’s eyes were wide open, eager to know just how Brianna Shaw had threatened Yvonne Sherman and Chad Jennings.
The story Chad Jennings and Yvonne Sherman had told back then was completely fabricated and not very logical.
It was just that Sophia Shaw was young at the time and at their mercy. With Brianna Shaw dead and no one to speak up for her, they could say whatever they wanted.
But now, with Yancy Shaw pressing him relentlessly, Chad Jennings knew that one wrong move would give him away. Wiping away his sweat, he stammered, "It’s... it’s..." for a long time, not daring to utter another word.
"It seems to be a secret that can’t be spoken of," Leah Evans said, walking out of the house with her arms crossed.
Chad Jennings acted as if he’d found his savior and nodded frantically. "Right, right, it’s a secret that can’t be spoken of! What company doesn’t have a few secrets!"
"This secret of yours wouldn’t happen to involve illegal and criminal activities, would it? Because if so, I might just have to call the police and have them investigate thoroughly!" Yancy Shaw said, pulling out his phone.
Chad Jennings’s face turned ashen with fright, and his legs started to tremble.
He knew the current situation at the company better than anyone. If there were a real investigation, there would be big trouble.
