Chapter 1989: The Princess at the Hospital

Of course, this was under the presumption that there was no accident. Such a growth was bound to step on countless other territories, garnering hate from all sides.

Princess Naia turned to Cauis. "Tell me more about the children..." she said. The reason she went all the way here was precisely for them.

When they got out of seclusion, they received a letter of inquiry from Zenno. He didn’t hide much this time, indicating that two children had exhibited the two elven powers.

Each race had its own abilities and specialties. Elves’ powers depended on lineage, on top of their talent for arrays.

These powers had also been lost for more than a thousand years.

Hence, what Zenno mentioned were likely just runes that somehow ended up here, but she decided to check it herself first.

It wasn’t the first time a false alarm happened. There had been surviving special runes that would appear here and there, used by people. Even Zenno must not have encountered them often, though, so even if it was runes, he might not know of them. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"They’re toddlers, only about two years old, Princess," he said. "They’re very adorable and lovable."

When he talked about them, Cauis’ expression softened. He had seen them a few times, especially when they were being walked around, and just the sight of them could easily make people melt into mush.

"I wonder if they were wearing runes and where they could’ve found it," she said. It was the more believable scenario, so that was what she was going with until proven otherwise.

"That..I’m not sure."

She entered the hospital with Cauis and one guard (a large entourage was not allowed inside) and met Zenno somewhere in there. As she walked in, she could not help but observe the hospital, how...comfortable it was.

Hospitals were usually dreary places and associated as such, but here, it felt vibrant. As if staying could help someone recover well.

Back in Holt, this had been one of her projects. The vision was not exactly the same, but the goal was to make things more comfortable for the patients.

A few years ago, she noticed that the discomfort, as well as psyche, seemed to delay recovery. Like two people with similar injuries and levels were in the hospital, but one family had a bigger ward with some luxuries like softer beds and interior plants.

Other than these, the two patients received the same treatment, but the latter recovered a bit faster than the other, so she got curious.

She should go around after the meeting for inspiration.

Soon, she arrived at the ward, opened to her by her guard and Cauis.

The first thing she saw was a little baby floating around, and then suddenly falling down, with a moving little bed catching his fall.

Then there was another baby flashing, from one side of the room to another, and another moving little bed went to catch her.

Naia’s pretty eyebrows rose.

Looks like she was wrong this time.

She had thought it was likely the work of runes, but now she saw that the burst of power was coming from the children themselves.

Naia felt a mix of emotions. Relief that the legacy was still alive, but also dread because it might not necessarily be a good thing for the children.

She saw two people there with a similar aura to hers and immediately felt a sort of camaraderie. No, it was more like familial affection.

"Hello..."

Althea and Garan had noticed people there, but they were more guarded, especially since the children were there. It was only when they saw Cauis that they calmed, and then they realized what he could be there for, so they eagerly went to greet them.

Before saying anything else, Naia handed small pearl bracelets to Althea. "Here," she said. "These are tools that could keep their outbursts at bay."

Althea saw that they were smaller versions of the necklace from before and nodded. "Thank you," she said, and handed one to her husband.

They went to the nearest child each and placed the accessories on their little hands, tying them twice so the accessories wouldn’t slip out.

Like this, the energy releasing was snuffed out, with the occasional puff.

The couple heaved deep breaths as they held on to the small babies in their arms, soon heading to the guests to thank them.

"These are not long-term solutions. If used for a long time, it will crack as well, and perhaps the outburst would be harsher."

This made the adults’ blood turn cold. Althea stepped forward, looking at the beautiful woman, a hint of pleading in her eyes.

"Please tell us everything you know."

...

The group headed to the cafe on the hospital’s roof deck. There were private rooms there, too. Like in Terran, the cafes also had private rooms for various reasons.

Some would be for big families visiting and waiting to have a decent place to eat properly or work. It could be an alternative and less formal meeting room for hospital staff, nurses, and/or doctor teams.

And finally, it could be a place where doctors and the patients’ families can comfortably speak in detail about the patient’s conditions. Although they had their consultation rooms, or even just the wards, those were not big and were associated with somber news. Cafe settings were less intimidating.

They treated the princess and Cauis to a nice snack and tea, which they obviously appreciated, though the topic at this time made the conversation about food a bit out of place.

"Elf blood is a wonderful thing, but it is also a legend among us," the princess said. "Elf blood can also be a curse when awakened in a human body."

This was only in theory, as it had never happened before. She studied it as much as she could because she knew that it might become an issue for a future generation in her lineage. She did not expect to see it so soon, however.

It was much like how little children should not reach level 10 before puberty, otherwise the power would be too much for them and make them fall ill.

In the children’s case, it was similar, though not exactly. If they just had simple elemental skills—like her son, for instance—they would’ve been fine.

"However, what they had awakened were powers not meant to be for humans..."

Althea and Garan felt extremely nervous, waiting for her next words. "The solution?"

Naia nodded. "What you have to do," she paused. "... is to awaken their elven physiques."
