Zara

War Day passed in an atmosphere of heartfelt emotions, exchanging gifts, and devouring delicious food. And joined the office again. I really wanted to eat more, especially meat, but I couldn’t.

Ranold left in the evening. Alpha went to the gym; he didn’t miss a workout even on war Day. Suddenly feeling tired, I returned to Alpha’s room, changed, and went to bed.

Picking up my phone, I started scrolling through my social media feed.

With difficulty, I left the room, jug in hand, and went downstairs to find an eerie silence all around. Where was Alpha? Shouldn’t he have finished his workout at the gym by now?

Filling a glass with water, I drank it down in one gulp to get rid of the unpleasant taste in my mouth. Leaving the kitchen, my curiosity gave in. I headed toward the gym. Or maybe I was specifically looking for it and didn’t want to be alone.

His presence, regardless of his behavior, sometimes seemed calming. My feet carried me toward the glass-walled gym, but the light was dim, making it seem empty.

I peered inside, my eyes wandering.

’He wasn’t there.’ Nova was curious.

’Where was he?’ I, too. I moved further through the villa, to the parts I hadn’t yet explored, and reached the door. The door was locked and keyed, requiring a code to open. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

’Why would Alpha need such a door?’ Nova asked.

’Maybe he has a problem in his workplace.’ I suggested.

’Goddess, he missed his office for many days, due to war and pack’s safety.’ Nova has good feelings for her Alpha.

This thought troubled me, my mind, which had been constantly in fight-or-flight mode lately and was full of negative thoughts.

Is he hiding something?

The slow sounds of people climbing the stairs on the other side of the door made my heart pound, and I quickly retreated, not wanting to be discovered.

I ran as if someone was chasing me until I reached the kitchen. Running inside, I grabbed a glass and began filling it with water, my overactive heart pounding in my chest.

The sound was so loud that I was afraid Alpha would hear it. As expected, Alpha soon appeared and also headed for the kitchen.

I tried not to look in his direction, but it was impossible to ignore his imposing figure when he opened the refrigerator right next to me and pulled out what looked like a protein shake.

Finally, I turned around and saw him leaning against the refrigerator, his gaze riveted on me. He took long swigs from the bottle. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he drank the green drink, his toned legs crossed at the ankles.

He was both intimidating and captivating. Could he still be hiding?

"Intense workout?" I asked casually, knowing full well he wasn’t at the gym. But my heart was beating so fast.

He pulled his lips away from the bottle, leaving them wet.

"Yeah, just finished." He ran a hand through his dry hair. Alpha always showered after training and wasn’t a big fan of blow-drying his hair.

So why was his hair dry?

That means he hadn’t showered in a while, and Goddess only knows what he was doing behind that door that led to where?

Seeing me frozen and blushing, he asked, "Are you okay?"

Looking away, I clutched the glass to my chest and replied, "Yes! I need to sleep." Hoping he wouldn’t notice me, I left him and the kitchen.

After the gym and a shower, I decided to head to my secret room underground. I was overcome with the urge to hop on my bike and ride away, but the damned storm caught me off guard.

It was supposed to last another day or two, with howling winds and more snowfall. Olfi and the others were hard at work clearing the gardens and the road. I started filming a video, but decided not to upload it.

Deciding to do it later, after careful editing, I left the secret room and headed to the kitchen to drink my protein shake.

To my surprise, Zara was already there, filling a glass with water. She didn’t even glance at me as I took the bottle out of the fridge and began drinking.

Finally turning to face me, I noticed her face had flushed. My gaze dropped, and her chest was heaving, as if she’d just been running.

"An intense workout?" she tried to ask casually, but a hint of curiosity flickered in her eyes.

Is she hiding something from me?

And she started a conversation with me alone, so why such a casual question?

I pulled the bottle away from my lips and replied, "Yes, I just finished." I ran my fingers through my hair, keeping it out of my eyes.

The fear and questioning in her eyes intensified. I couldn’t understand her expression as she looked at me, as if trying to solve the riddle I’d thrown her. I noticed she’d changed her clothes, but the ruby earrings were still on her ears.

Seeing her frozen in place, I asked, "Are you okay?" Something was definitely wrong, and she was trying her best to hide it.

"Yes, I need to sleep," she replied sharply, clutching the glass pitcher to her chest as she walked out of the kitchen and headed for the stairs.

I tossed the empty bottle into the sink and followed her. Her shoulders seemed tense as she quickly rose, looking nervous.

Entering the room, she set the jug on the table and walked over to the bed, sliding into it without looking. Something was clearly bothering her, and I needed to find out what it was.

I went to the closet and pulled out a pillow and blanket. As I walked out, I glanced in her direction, and she was engrossed in her phone.

Her face was pained; whatever she was looking at, it looked unpleasant.

"Did something happen? Or did someone say something?" I asked, throwing the pillow and blanket on the bed. My entire attention was focused on her. She suddenly looked up from the screen and gave me a confused look, as if unsure of what to say.
