Chapter 104: Chapter 82: First NFL Contract

Li Wei thought for a moment. The Super Bowl was still a month and a half away. Before then, he estimated his Strength and Agility would both stack up to 3.0, and his Silver Physique would evolve further.

’At that point, he really couldn’t imagine how anyone in the college leagues could stop him. After all, he had a high resistance to plagues, diseases, firearms, and bladed weapons.’

If someone wanted to seriously injure him in the locker room...

Li Wei pictured a few high schoolers rushing at him, brandishing daggers.

"Don’t worry," he said with a serious nod. "I’ll be careful."

"Good," John Mara said, staring straight at him. "I don’t have many years left. Not even a rich man can beat cancer... But I don’t know why, I just have a really good feeling about you. Maybe it’s God’s guidance. I hope you can lead the Giants to a Super Bowl victory, something they haven’t achieved in 20 years."

Li Wei and Don Quixote walked him to the door. It wasn’t until they were outside that Li Wei realized something.

"Why did you bring two cars?" he asked jokingly. "Afraid a hitman might know which car you’re in ahead of time?"

"My enemies are all well aware I don’t have much time left," John Mara boomed with laughter. "So I don’t have to worry about assassins anymore."

He nodded to one of his bodyguards.

The bodyguard took two car keys from his pocket and placed them in Li Wei’s hand.

"These are the two keys for the car in the back," John Mara said with a wave of his hand. "Consider it a little gift from me. Brand new. To help soothe your recent mood."

Li Wei couldn’t help but turn to look at the brand-new Cadillac Escalade ESV behind them.

The ESV was the extended version of the standard Cadillac Escalade, boasting a longer wheelbase and body. This meant a more spacious interior, with a greater emphasis on passenger comfort, cargo capacity, and luxury features.

With an 18.9-foot body and a seven-seat layout, it was powered by a standard 6.2-liter American V8 and came equipped with premium features like a top-of-the-line AKG sound system and multi-way power-adjustable seats with heating and ventilation.

"If you’re giving me a car, why not a sports car?" Li Wei turned his head and said jokingly. "I thought you were going to give me a Porsche."

"You greedy kid," John Mara said with a laugh. "The contract I’m giving you is enough to buy a private jet! If you want a Porsche, wait until you get your signing bonus!"

With that, he got into the first car. The V8 engine let out a low rumble and a roar before slowly driving away from the Bei Ling Ridge community.

An autumn breeze blew, carrying the smell of gasoline to Don Quixote and Li Wei’s noses.

"Even though I was sort of expecting something," Don Quixote groaned, rubbing the bridge of his nose, "when a big-shot boss like that gives you a car worth over 100,000 USD like it’s a toy, I’m honestly both happy and sad."

"Don’t get too excited," Li Wei said, patting Don Quixote’s shoulder comfortingly. "He also gave me a Rolex Daytona before. I looked it up; the list price is 40,000 USD."

"I hate rich people," Don Quixote muttered, circling the Cadillac. "But this car is seriously gorgeous, seriously..."

"If you want to drive it, you can take it during the day," Li Wei shrugged. "I have school, so I’ll probably only use it on weekends occasionally."

Don Quixote stroked the car door, reluctant to let go. He opened it and saw that much of the protective film hadn’t even been peeled off yet. The smell of new leather filled the air—everything proved this was a brand-new car, fresh from the dealership.

"Forget it," he said, shaking his head. "I’m still in the startup phase. I’ll stick with the Toyota. I’m afraid I couldn’t even afford the gas for this thing."

The two of them walked back into the house, talking and laughing. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

"By the way," Li Wei suddenly asked, "Uncle, didn’t you say you only knew a little about the NFL? How do you remember the salaries so clearly?"

"Well, it’s because you said you were going to play football," Don Quixote said nonchalantly. "So I just memorized all the data from the last 20 years, including personnel, positions, salaries, coaching systems, and so on..."

"Oh, right, and the contracts," he added after a moment of thought. "You’re still young and too trusting—you could easily get ripped off. So I just went ahead and memorized the standard player contracts for the NFL, the NCAA, and the minor leagues, just in case they’d be needed someday."

"I haven’t been able to give you any professional help with football; you’ve done it all on your own," he said, pointing to his head. "The only thing I can do is use my knack for numbers and my still-decent brain to memorize all this knowledge, so I can offer some help when you need it."

"Take it and drive it," Li Wei said, moved. "I’ll cover half the gas."

"You little brat," Don Quixote said, snatching the keys. "You’re only covering half?"

"Half is generous enough," Li Wei said. "I don’t have that much money!"

"Doesn’t your scholarship give you 6,000 USD a month?"

"Then how much did you make last month after taxes?"

"Uhh... with the 1,300 USD monthly dividend from that building in the Bronx, I think I made 11,700 USD last month."

"And you’re still asking me for gas money!" Li Wei exploded. "Pay for it yourself!"

"You brat!" Don Quixote retorted, equally furious. "I’m your only guardian! I’m your real uncle!"

Just then, a quest panel popped up in Li Wei’s vision:
