American Adventure: My Uncle is Don Quixote
Chapter 159 - 104: A Tsunami of Roars
28-31.
The West took the lead again by 3 points.
"Li Wei has less than two minutes left," Kurt Warner said, looking at the clock. "And they’re out of timeouts. This would be a Hell-level difficulty for any veteran NFL Quarterback, let alone a high school kid."
His tone carried a hint of schadenfreude as he glanced at Mike beside him.
"Let’s have faith in Li Wei," Mike said. "I trust my gut, Kurt."
The camera cut to Li Wei.
"The hope of the East, three million people watching online, fifty-six thousand watching live in the stadium," the head coach said, patting Li Wei on the back. "You have two minutes left."
"Two minutes?" Li Wei chuckled. "That’s too long, Coach. I want to get home and take a shower."
"The snap!"
All of the West’s defensive players charged like mad dogs, betting all their glory on trying to smother Li Wei’s final drive.
The pocket collapsed instantly.
Li Wei didn’t pass. He tucked the ball and scrambled to his right.
"It’s a run! He’s running it himself!"
A linebacker anticipated his path and charged in for a hard tackle. At the same time, a safety from the side cut off his escape route.
He was caught between a rock and a hard place.
Just when everyone thought Li Wei would be tackled at the 5-yard line, he made a move that took the entire stadium’s breath away.
He didn’t slow down or change direction. Instead, relying on the absolute dominance of his [Strength 2.6] and [Physique 3.0], he met the linebacker head-on and leaped high into the air!
This wasn’t a hurdle. It was a flight.
He stretched his body out in mid-air. The same vertical jump that had once stunned the internet during the practice game reappeared. The same leap that made him go viral for the first time was happening again. He flew right over the head of the linebacker who was attempting a low tackle!
The moment he landed, facing the safety who had come over in coverage, Li Wei used his downward momentum to slam his shoulder hard into the opponent’s chest.
BANG!
There was no suspense.
The safety was knocked straight into the end zone, while Li Wei, like an unstoppable god of war, dragged the defensive player trying to hold him back and smashed his way across the goal line!
The referee raised both arms.
"TOUCHDOWN!!!"
34-31! A game-winner!
The clock hit zero.
In that instant, it was as if a nuclear bomb had detonated inside the Alamo Dome Arena. The colossal roar of the crowd nearly shattered the dome itself. Red streamers erupted into the air as the East players frantically rushed the field, hoisting the figure who had just climbed to his feet high into the air.
"Incredible! Unbelievable!" Mike ripped off his headset, his face flushed with excitement. "I’ve never seen a high school game like this in my life! He defeated an entire army by himself!"
「New York, NFL Headquarters.」
The conference room was deathly silent, then erupted in applause.
Roger Goodell set down his coffee cup, a satisfied, even all-knowing, smile on his face.
"See that?" he said to the team owners around him, pointing at the radiant young man on the screen. "That’s the ’new story’ we’ve been looking for."
John Mara leaned back in his chair and let out a long sigh, a smug smile on his face.
「Dominica, Casa de Campo.」
Elizabeth Mellon took off her sunglasses. As she watched the figure on her iPad screen, surrounded by streamers, a peculiar glint flashed in her eyes.
"Liz? It’s your serve!"
"Coming," Elizabeth said, standing up. She seemed to be in a particularly good mood. "I’m on my way."
「Monaco, Monte Carlo Port.」
"Yes! Yes! Yes!"
Anya didn’t even care that she was only in a bikini. She leaped up from her deck chair and spun around excitedly on the deck several times.
"Did you see that?! That’s my boyfriend!" she boasted to a few waitresses who were clearing dishes, even though they probably couldn’t understand a word she was saying.
Don Quixote was already sobbing uncontrollably. After so much bitterness, the sweet reward had finally come. All the past hardships now seemed like nothing more than a passing frost.
Lily, on the other hand, felt none of this sentimentality. Perched on Don Quixote’s shoulders, she waved a small flag in her hand, her voice hoarse from shouting, "My brother’s the champion! My brother’s the MVP!"
Travis’s earlier shouts had been so loud that his supervisor had found him.
"Travis! What are you doing? If you don’t want to work here anymore, then get the hell out!" the supervisor stormed over, furious.
But Travis just raised his phone with a defiant look, practically shoving the screen in his supervisor’s face. "Fine, I’ll get out! See this? That’s my brother! That’s Li Wei! I used to train with him! He’s the national champion now!"
"Look at Li Wei," Jasmine said to Craig, who was beside her. "Craig, you really need to try harder."
「Alamo Dome Arena, Center Field.」
Trevor Carson pushed through the celebrating crowd and walked up to Li Wei.
The face of America’s number one high school player held a trace of bitterness, but it was overshadowed by relief and admiration.
"You’re a monster, Li Wei," Trevor said, reaching out and giving Li Wei’s chest plate a hard punch. "That last jump... were you trying to kill that safety?"
"He was in my way," Li Wei said with a smile, bumping fists with him. "Besides, I wanted to clock out early."
"Let’s exchange contact info back at the hotel. We should hang out sometime," Trevor asked. "You’re a lock now, right?"
He didn’t say for what, but Li Wei knew what he meant and gave him a wink.
"I should be," he said.
"Good! Awesome!" Trevor laughed heartily. "You go on ahead, I’ll be right behind you!"
"Anytime," Li Wei said, bumping fists with him again.
...
A few minutes later, once order was somewhat restored on the field, a podium had been set up at the center of the stadium.
All the stadium spotlights converged on a single point. The NBC host held a microphone, his voice trembling with excitement. "Ladies and gentlemen, on this insane weekend, we have witnessed the birth of history."
"First, we present the award for the player who performed best at this week’s training camp and broke multiple NFL historical records—the Training Camp MVP!"
"Without a doubt, Li Wei!"
Li Wei walked onto the stage and accepted the trophy. His jersey was stained with grass and dirt, but that only served as his most brilliant medal of honor.
"But that’s not all," the host said, taking a deep breath. "320 passing yards and 3 passing touchdowns; 186 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, including that breathtaking game-winner."
"This is the first dual MVP in the history of the All-American All-Star Bowl, by a unanimous vote! The Most Valuable Player of this game is—"
"From New York, Li Wei!!!"
As Li Wei raised the Training Camp MVP trophy in his left hand and the All-Star Bowl MVP trophy high in his right, roaring toward the stands, a downpour of golden confetti rained from the sky.
CLICK—
Countless camera flashes froze the moment in time.
In the photo, Li Wei stood under a golden rain, both hands holding trophies high, with his cheering teammates and tens of thousands of spectators behind him.
