Chapter 1028: Warning

Carrick finally arrived at the crime scene.

"Sir..." The police chief, who was responsible for this investigation, respectfully greeted him. "I am Chief Roland. We’ll provide you with everything you need."

Carrick nodded with a serious expression. "Thanks. How is the investigation going?"

While walking around the crime scene, the police chief explained, "We have brought the leader of the company that is suspected to do this for revenge, but for now, he hasn’t told us anything. He has his lawyer, so we can’t do anything yet."

Carrick frowned before asking, "How about this place?"

"Yes, sir." Roland nodded before pointing at the chair. "We believed the victim was sitting in this chair when he was assassinated. There was no mark of struggle, so the other party must be quite powerful.

"The victim had two bodyguards at Tier 6, but they didn’t notice anything until it was too late. The secretary said that the boss was laughing until he wasn’t.

"She checked on him but found him dead. There was no camera capturing anyone suspicious, and there was supposed to be no visitor before the murder occurred. We couldn’t find any DNA or other traces linked to the perpetrator yet.

"The assassin was most likely a Tier 7 or Tier 8 human. We are currently investigating all the staff to see if there are any spies in the company."

"I see." Carrick’s expression turned solemn. "It looks like this is not a normal assassination. Where is the suspect?"

"They’re in the station."

"Lead me there. I’ll ask directly."

"U-Understood, sir!" The chief immediately brought him to the station.

He led him to the interrogation room, pointing at the man with his lawyer. He remained silent, as if he were annoyed.

"This guy is Alexander from the rival company. He keeps saying he doesn’t do it. We can’t charge him with anything yet because we haven’t found any evidence. My deepest apologies."

"No. You have done your job. Let me take charge from here." Carrick walked to the interrogation room.

The chief followed right behind him, opening the door for him.

When Alexander and his lawyer saw Carrick, their faces turned pale.

Everyone already knew Carrick’s face, considering he was the strongest person in this country. He was like a war hero who had been fighting against the maniacs from the Hacfield family all this time.

Carrick sat down, the pressure emanating from his body was massive.

"Before we begin—" The lawyer wanted to stop Carrick, but Carrick simply glared at him, using his own aura to stop him from talking.

"Shut it. I have a lot of immunity in this country, including the right to kill people. I may not abuse it, but you can’t stop me either. I’m above the law.

"Do you think I care about your opinions or whatever you’re going to say? If I kill both of you here and now, will they prosecute me? No, people will understand that I’m merely avenging my family who have died unjustly."

Carrick’s statement was clearly a threat, but they couldn’t refute it, nor did they dare to.

As he said, if he killed both of them, there was nothing they could do. The business owner was one thing, but the lawyer was not paid enough to deal with Carrick.

Carrick shifted his gaze to Alexander and said coldly, "Let’s make this clear. You talk. If I notice any lies, I’ll kill one of your family members. Another lie, and I will kill your whole family. You have one chance."

Alexander trembled in fear. He looked down before gulping down. "I... didn’t do it."

"It looks like you’re still playing games with me." Carrick glanced at the one-way mirror. "Chief Roland. Get the warrant and bring his entire family here."

Alexander panicked. "Sir... I really didn’t do it. I never ordered any assassination attempts. I really knew nothing about this."

Carrick asked, "Then, who? Give me names."

"I... I don’t know." Alexander shook his head. "I couldn’t think of anyone who would do something like this."

Alexander started crying, unable to withstand the pressure.

Carrick’s expression darkened. His glare turned colder as though he were going to execute Alexander.

"I don’t have time for this." Carrick stood and raised his hand as if he were going to kill them.

"Please forgive me. I don’t know anything about this matter. I’m just trying to do my job. Please let me go." The lawyer wet his pants and started begging as well. "He said the same thing to me. I couldn’t know whether he did it or not."

Carrick’s expression turned solemn before narrowing his eyes. He couldn’t sense any lies in their eyes.

Besides, his senses were tingling. He thought something was off about this assassination from the beginning. It looked like this assassination might indeed be weird.

"We’ll see whether you’re telling me the truth or not." Carrick exited the room as the police chief was waiting for him outside.

"Sir?" The chief gulped, wondering what Carrick was planning to do next.

Carrick stated, "Get all his family members here. I’m going to interrogate each of them. I am not unreasonable. If they don’t do it, there’s no reason to punish them. If they’re guilty, don’t expect me to give them any mercy."

"Y-Yes." The chief nodded furiously.

As the chief walked away, Carrick contemplated, wondering if he had missed something.

’This assassination... What is the purpose? A revenge?’ Carrick crossed his arms, confused.

To his surprise, he received a call. It turned out to be a call from the Prophet.

"Why do you call me? I am handling the murder of my family member right now." Carrick frowned. He wasn’t in the mood to talk about the Prophet.

"My condolences."

"Enough. What do you want?"

The Prophet paused for a few seconds before stating, "You may want to watch after your tower right now. I’m afraid it’s being targeted. I’ve noticed that there is a sudden movement from the Libation Fiesta. They’ve sent a lot of decoys, and I can’t find the real one, but two of them are moving near your location."

"!!!"
