Apocalypse: My Items Can Upgrade Infinitely
Chapter 116 - 108: Unexpected News, a Breakout, and Winning Hearts
’No, that’s not right. He’s been promoted to Major General now. He’s perfectly qualified and capable of accessing internal secrets and helping the Mother Empress with her plan to kill with a borrowed knife!’
’Take this missile decapitation strike, for example!’ 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
The more Lin Feng thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
He had originally planned something similar himself: to have Shen Jie and Zhang Liying, the two Awakeners with the Devouring Assimilation Superpower...
...disguise themselves as Zergs in the future and infiltrate the Zerg Race’s Nest!
To uncover the enemy’s secrets!
But what Lin Feng hadn’t expected was the speed at which the Mother Empress could plant a spy. He figured human high command had never even considered the possibility.
After all, until now, only High Tier Zergs had displayed high intelligence...
Whether they were Low Tier bugs or Tier Two Zergs, their intelligence was childlike, and their Spiritual Attributes were far lower than humans of the same tier.
They were all mindless puppets controlled by the Mother Empress.
But only Lin Feng knew the terrifying consequences of underestimating the Zerg Race.
’Humanity will pay the price for its arrogance!’
Seeing that the Swarm was no longer chasing them, Lin Feng immediately ordered the vehicles to stop. Clad in his Flying Tiger Armor, he stepped out of the Tank and walked over to the troop transport behind it.
Li Ran and the others jumped down from the driver’s cabs. Wearing their Red Armor, the joy of having escaped death faded, replaced by grave expressions.
They, too, realized something was wrong.
Just then, they saw the trail of fire in the sky—the sign of an approaching cruise missile.
’Could it really be heading for the outpost!?’
Facing the nervous gazes of the soldiers in the vehicles, Lin Feng pointed directly at the glimmer of light and said in a heavy voice:
"In a few minutes, that missile above our heads will strike the outpost we just left..."
"The missile has already been launched. Why didn’t the Thirteenth Division’s high command give us any advance warning!?"
Lin Feng then pointed toward the second line of defense in the distance.
"Those people sit back there in safety and comfort, ordering us around, sending us to the front lines to risk our lives holding back the Zerg Race. If that was all, it would be one thing..."
"But now, they actually want to trade our lives for a chance to kill the Mother Empress!"
"Believe it or not, if you run back there right now, you’ll be accused of deserting your post and losing ground!"
"The Thirteenth Division’s high command has disappointed me deeply!"
"From this moment on, I, Lin Feng, will no longer follow the orders of the Thirteenth Division, nor will I participate in the defense of Wu City!"
"As for the rest of you, we’ve fought together. You can choose to go back, or you can decide to follow me..."
"I can’t give you any guarantees other than the chance to kill Zergs and grow stronger, but there’s one thing I can promise: I, Lin Feng, will never abandon a single member of my team!"
As he spoke, a streak of light like a falling star shot across the distant sky.
A missile, its tail glowing, plunged from the heavens and scored a direct hit on the outpost fortress they had just been defending.
A deafening explosion followed.
The very ground trembled with a mighty RUMBLE!
Then, the once-Indestructible outpost watchtower slowly sank into the earth as if its foundations had been pulled out from under it, collapsing more than ten meters downward...
The ironclad truth was now laid bare before them. The men, who had narrowly escaped disaster, recalled the Sergeant Major’s strange order to evacuate the sturdy outpost...
If they had hesitated, if they hadn’t left, the outpost’s fate would have been their own. It would have become their tomb.
As this realization hit, a wave of fear washed over them, quickly followed by the same boundless indignation that their commander felt growing in their hearts.
Right away, many of them, filled with righteous fury, began to question their company commander, Captain Li Ran of the Thirteenth Division.
After Li Ran came forward and confirmed that they had not received any evacuation orders from high command...
...that anger swelled into a raging inferno!
And so, it was only natural that they all chose to follow Lin Feng and break away from the Thirteenth Division’s command.
They were all new recruits. Aside from their burning passion to serve their country and save humanity, all that was left was their personal ambition to grow stronger by killing Zergs.
Now, having safely become Awakeners with Lin Feng’s help, they naturally had no desire to throw their lives away for the Thirteenth Division.
Especially not after being abandoned and betrayed.
For many, that anger had already turned to resentment. The experience of being betrayed had shattered their trust in the Thirteenth Division!
And this was exactly the outcome Lin Feng had wanted.
As the dust kicked up by the bunker-buster missile’s explosion and the subsequent collapse of the outpost slowly settled...
The remaining Swarm, affected by the underground shockwave, scattered in all directions.
Lin Feng raised his rifle and shouted:
"Since you all want to stay, follow me back there now! We’ll catch the Zerg Race off guard!"
"Surround the Black Spine Zergs! Kill Zergs and Awaken!"
"And while we’re at it, we’ll wipe out the remaining Tiger Spine Zergs!"
With that, Lin Feng climbed aboard the Tank.
He glanced back at Li Ran, who had stepped forward, then took the lead and charged back toward the outpost.
Shen Jie and the others directed the two troop transports under their command to follow Lin Feng’s lead.
Li Ran hesitated for a few seconds. After one last look at the brightly lit second line of defense in the distance, he gave the order to follow the Sergeant Major’s Tank.
