Arcane: The Gods Want Me to Pick a Route
Chapter 250: Logan, Do You Have Some Kind of Weird Kink? (Oh no...)
In the past, there was no sunlight to be seen in Zaun’s mornings. But in recent years, Zaun had reshaped the cliff walls above, and Piltover had modified some of its old structures, letting sunlight into Zaun.
But the most important part had naturally been cleaning up the Gray. After all, if Zaun were still buried under heavy pollution, then no matter how much they changed the city from the outside, sunlight still would never reach it.
And now, the moment the first ray of sunlight fell into Zaun, Logan sat up in bed.
The moment he saw that striking streak of red on the bedsheet, the corners of his mouth curled upward on their own.
He was happy. Really happy.
He was just about to lift a hand and fix his hair, still a mess from Jinx clawing through it, when he noticed that his palm was resting against something soft and smooth. Looking down, he realized his hand was lying across a pale calf that had slipped out from under the blanket.
Then he looked up and couldn’t help laughing.
Jinx was asleep at the foot of the bed.
God knew how she’d managed to sleep herself into that position, but there she was, curled up at the end of the bed in a thoroughly undignified pose, both hands gripping the edge of the blanket and tugging it over her head. From the upper half of her face that was still visible, it was obvious she had slept well. Her sleeping posture was a disaster, but her sleeping face was utterly peaceful.
Logan pulled back the blanket and looked at the naked Jinx. She immediately curled up a little tighter on instinct, her hands grabbing around vaguely, apparently feeling cold.
It was winter now. Not that Zaun lacked heating systems, of course. With the level of technology in the Twin Cities now, central heating was easy. It wouldn’t have been an exaggeration to say every house in Black Lane had heat.
The reason this had happened was simple. In the second half of last night, Jinx had started feeling hot. When she clung to Logan, everything got sticky and warm, so she had just turned the heat off.
No wonder she’d ended up stealing the blanket in her sleep.
Logan got up and lightly patted her thigh. "Jinx. Jinx..."
The only response he got was Jinx turning her face away and curling up even tighter.
Seeing that, Logan bent down with a smile, leaned in close to her ear, and whispered softly, "Wife."
It was very quiet, but it worked far better than just calling her by name.
Because the second that word left his mouth, Jinx, who had been sleeping like the dead a moment ago, instantly opened her eyes.
Her beautiful eyes went wide, still hazy with sleep. She turned her head to look at Logan, and when she saw him smiling at her, she mumbled, "What did you just call me?"
"W, wife..." Logan said.
If he ignored everything below the neck and just looked at Jinx’s face, he always had the strange feeling that he was doing something criminal, along with a powerful wave of embarrassment.
Sneaking the word out while she was asleep and saying it to her face while she stared at him with those bright eyes were two completely different things.
At least, that was how Logan saw it. Looking at Jinx now, he did feel a little awkward. But then he thought about the fact that they were already married. He had married Jinx right in front of gods, in front of diplomatic envoys from every nation.
So what exactly was there to be embarrassed about?
Was it Jinx’s fault that she had such a youthful face?
Of course not.
Besides, that was a good thing, wasn’t it?
So now, even if Silco were standing right in front of him, Logan could call Jinx his wife to her face, and what exactly could Silco say about it?
No matter how unhappy he was, he’d have to swallow it. Yesterday, Silco had personally entrusted Jinx to him.
Damn it, they were officially registered and everything!
At the Twin Cities registry office, Logan and Jinx’s names were recorded in full. They were an officially recognized legal couple.
So after saying it out loud to Jinx, that strange discomfort in Logan immediately faded.
He reached out and gently rubbed Jinx’s messy blue hair, most of it piled at the foot of the bed and half of it hanging off the edge, then said softly, "You should get up. I need to go make breakfast, and you need to go pick Isha up."
"No way. Let her stay out a few more days," Jinx said after thinking about it.
As she spoke, she wriggled a little, rubbing her head against Logan’s thigh like a cat. Then her eyes moved. "Why are you already up?"
Then, in a small mutter, though one with enough destructive force to make Logan almost cough blood, she added, "The last few times, you were done after using it a couple times."
The warm, cozy atmosphere he had just created instantly shattered.
Logan took a deep breath, then lightly pinched one of Jinx’s ears between two fingers and lifted it a little, stopping her from trying to press her face any closer to his little Logan. Then he said with great seriousness, "Say that again, Jinx. Yesterday, was I the one who couldn’t keep going, or were you the one who gave out first? Weren’t you the one crying no, no, and apologizing until I stopped?"
"Did I? There’s no way I would’ve been that pathetic. Obviously you were the one who couldn’t keep up."
Logan’s teeth started itching with annoyance.
Me?
Seriously?
What kind of joke was that?
With his physical condition now, saying he was basically on Superman’s level wouldn’t have been an exaggeration. Which meant that in that department, he was strong as hell too, okay? If he hadn’t been deliberately suppressing the flow of his magic and limiting his physical condition, then with Jinx’s little frame, teaching her a lesson would have taken almost no effort at all.
And as for the whole getting there too fast the first time, that couldn’t be blamed on him either, right? Being quick the first time seemed pretty normal.
"Alright, get up. Stop messing around. We’ve got a lot of people to see today." Logan patted Jinx’s smooth back, then stood up first to set an example.
"Ugh, I feel all sticky... and kind of smelly too," Jinx said, wrinkling her nose.
Then she stretched both arms out toward Logan on the bed and said with a grin, "Carry me to the bath."
Logan lowered his head and picked her up.
Soon after, with both of them bathed and changed, Logan crouched on the bed while Jinx sat there in a nightgown, and he began blow-drying her hair. Holding the beautiful blue lengths in thick handfuls, he dried it carefully.
"Your hair grows fast. At this rate, in another year or two, it’ll probably be as long as it used to be."
Jinx sat against the headboard, her hands braced on the knees sticking out beneath her nightgown, her back resting against Logan. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Short hair is actually pretty nice."
"No. It took forever to grow it back out," Logan said seriously. Short-haired Jinx was beautiful too, but long-haired Jinx still felt more familiar, more natural to him.
Hearing that, Jinx sighed.
Personally, she actually preferred short hair.
She had never been attached to long hair. Back then, the reason she hadn’t cut it wasn’t because she liked it, but because she had been too lazy to bother. She just let it keep growing. And long hair was much harder to deal with than short hair.
Just take blow-drying, for example. When her hair was short, after a bath Jinx could just throw a towel over her face, rub at it a few times, blow-dry for a minute or two, and be basically done.
But with long hair? Not to mention how much more time and effort it took to wash, just drying it afterward was a whole ordeal. You had to separate it section by section and dry it piece by piece. Drying it took at least forty minutes.
Especially since Jinx’s hair was thick and there was so much of it.
Still, Logan seemed to really like her long hair.
And when she thought back to what had happened in bed last night, the expression on Jinx’s face gradually turned serious.
She realized something.
Logan was kind of weird.
He was built just like her in that regard, so why did he know so many positions?
Logan knew an awful lot of strange things.
It wasn’t that she suspected him of doing anything behind her back. Even though Logan clearly knew a lot and had made her cooperate with him through all sorts of positions while bullying her all night, talking about something and actually doing it were two different things. When it came to the real thing, Logan had been clearly inexperienced. There had been a definite "studied it on paper" vibe to him.
But...
That only made Jinx more annoyed.
He wouldn’t let her look at those books and pictures, saying they would corrupt her, but apparently he’d been secretly studying them hard all on his own?
And then there was the way he insisted on pulling her hair.
Jinx stopped hesitating and asked very seriously, "Logan, do you have some kind of weird kink?"
"What do you mean?" Logan froze in the middle of drying her hair.
Jinx moved her neck a little, turned to look at him, and said, "When you said you wanted me to wear twin-tails next time, is that why you don’t want me cutting my hair?"
"Bullshit!" Logan coughed, half choking, then immediately launched into a very serious defense.
He started going on and on about how he was an upright gentleman, how he didn’t have weird kinks, how it wasn’t anything perverted anyway, that it was totally normal, that twin-tails were cute, that they looked great, and so on and so forth.
Jinx listened to the whole long speech in silence.
Then, after a while, she let out a long sigh.
Finally, she said, "Alright, Logan. You don’t need to keep talking. I get it. Tonight I’ll tie it in twin-tails."
"What is that supposed to mean? Didn’t I just say, I only think your hair is too long. A single ponytail is inconvenient, and if it’s loose, it’s easy to lie on it. As for buns or princess styling, those would fall apart in no time," Logan said with complete righteousness.
And honestly, he did make a convincing case.
Jinx actually ended up listening and even thought he might have a point. Her hair really was too long, and it genuinely was inconvenient.
Then, just as Jinx was beginning to wonder if maybe she had misunderstood Logan, his voice suddenly rang out again.
"Fine, we’ll do it your way. Let’s let Isha stay with Vi for a while longer. Um... right, Jinx, can you really do the twin-tails tonight?"
"..."
The only answer Logan got was a deeply judgmental look from Jinx.
And he still had the nerve to claim he didn’t have weird kinks.
At nine in the morning, after finishing a simple breakfast, Logan and Jinx got dressed and headed to Forgen Tavern.
Silco had not gone to the council building today. He was waiting for Logan and Jinx to come see him.
On the second floor of Forgen Tavern, Logan pushed the door open. Behind him, Jinx had her hair tied into a large bun and had changed back into her usual clothes, a cropped jacket, a black wool sweater underneath, black pants, and her favorite little boots with metal plates that jingled when she walked.
Silco was happy to see Logan and Jinx appear.
Then, a moment later, he became a little annoyed.
Because in the past, whenever Jinx came here, it was always Jinx bringing Logan in. To put it another way, this private space of Silco’s was basically Jinx’s home too.
But this time was different.
Jinx was following behind Logan with her head slightly lowered, and somehow she even looked a little obedient.
"Are you two going to see Vander after this?" Silco asked first once they sat down.
And when he asked, he deliberately looked at Jinx, waiting for her answer.
But the one who answered Silco was Jinx’s silence.
Then Logan answered instead.
"Yeah. After we see Vander, Jinx and I are going up to the upper city to see Jayce, Mel, and the others."
Silco shot Logan a look. He very badly wanted to say, Who asked you?
But after thinking about it, he held back. Instead, he picked up the cup in front of him, took a sip of water, and said, "You can take a proper rest for the next few days. But Logan, you’re about to get very busy."
"I know," Logan said, nodding from the sofa.
What Silco meant by busy was the most important matter facing the Twin Cities right now, drawing all of Runeterra onto the Twin Cities’ side of the line and publicly revealing, for the first time, the existence of the Void.
As Logan’s "secretary," Silco naturally knew about the Void too. Logan had told him about it personally.
Because once the Twin Cities had grown strong, Silco’s next thought had naturally been to make them even stronger, which meant swallowing up other nations.
To put it bluntly, Silco had once been preparing to imitate Noxus, launching wars of conquest so that Zaun and Piltover, united together, could become a powerful empire.
Expand their territory.
Claim more resources.
But Logan had immediately crushed that idea.
Because compared to human wars, there were much greater enemies waiting beyond the stars. It wasn’t that Logan looked down on human conflict, but those threats remained a sword hanging over his head at all times.
The Void.
The celestials.
And even... Aurelion Sol.
Logan naturally did not believe he had the power to fight Aurelion Sol. Even if every demigod in Runeterra were tied together, they would still be no more than dust in the dragon’s eyes.
Aurelion Sol could destroy a morning star with his bare hands. He could probably destroy Runeterra with a sneeze. And because of that, Logan felt even more urgency now.
Back when he had no power, it had been easy enough to shrug and let things happen. If a being like Aurelion Sol ever really arrived, then fine, the world ends, what can you do?
But now it was different.
As Logan gradually stepped into that circle, his understanding and the direction of his thinking had naturally changed with it.
And Aurelion Sol was currently constrained by the celestials. In the short term, or even for a very, very long time, he was unlikely to appear.
So for now, what Logan had to do was reveal the existence of the Void to the entire world.
Everyone in Runeterra had to know that the Void was the true enemy.
And that also happened to be one of the private deals Logan had made with Lissandra.
"As long as you’re sure, that’s enough. We’ve already gotten a lead on those monsters you mentioned," Silco said calmly, setting down his cup. "Deep in the desert of Shurima. That place has already become a dead zone. No matter how much money we offer, we can’t find anyone willing to risk going in."
"I’ll go there myself when the time comes," Logan said.
He had never been to Shurima yet, after all.
"You’re going personally?"
"Yeah. Besides bringing back a xer’sai corpse as proof, I’ve got other things to do there too," Logan said.
At the same time, the black-and-red greatsword resting by his feet trembled.
Silco didn’t even react to that anymore. He had already seen gods. A sword shaking a little didn’t even qualify as noteworthy now.
"As long as you’ve made up your mind, that’s fine." Silco did not object. Instead, he continued softly, "Then we’ll set it for the day you return from Shurima."
"The moment you find a xer’sai corpse, we’ll tell the world."
"Alright."
Logan agreed.
And in the place neither he nor Silco had noticed, Jinx, sitting beside Logan, had a slight flicker in her eyes.
Shurima...
She had just made a new friend yesterday, and if she remembered right... that girl was from Shurima, wasn’t she?
"Achoo~~~"
In Zaun’s new city, a girl standing in line rubbed her small nose and shivered a little.
But she didn’t feel cold.
Then she looked up at the food distribution area ahead of her, and the little sparrow from Shurima immediately broke into a delighted smile.
"I get to eat my fill again today!"
Taliyah said happily.
