Back to the 1980s: Transmigrated as the Bigshot's Pampered Wife
Chapter 262: Stormed Off
As soon as Gu Jiaojiao walked in, she heard Su Shuochi singing her praises to a pretty girl who was gazing at him, her face full of adoration.
Meanwhile, another girl, who was also quite pretty, was staring at him with a resentful look.
Two other girls and a few handsome young men were focused on their work, seemingly oblivious to the noise.
’This is interesting,’ Gu Jiaojiao thought. ’Su Shuochi is a natural chick magnet. Girls fall for him everywhere he goes.’
So, Gu Jiaojiao teased with a smile, "Su Shuochi~ Instead of working hard, you’re here showing off your wife?"
Hearing her voice, everyone looked up. A woman stood at the studio entrance, her smile captivating enough to topple kingdoms.
She wore a taro-purple dress that perfectly accentuated her pure, flawless, and innocent aura, with a hint of determination beneath her gentle beauty.
Her long eyelashes, delicate as a cicada’s wings, rested above her almond-shaped eyes, fluttering slightly. Her large, dark eyes shimmered with a vibrant light.
As lovely as a spring peach and as elegant as an autumn chrysanthemum, the woman carried herself with a graceful posture and moved with elegant steps.
"Sister-in-law is here! Oh my gosh, you’re even more beautiful up close! Like a fairy descending to the mortal realm," Xi Li greeted cheerfully.
"Wifey’s here." Su Shuochi beamed, putting down his work to go and take her hand.
The others also stopped what they were doing to greet her. "Hello, Sister-in-law."
Wen Qing’s face, however, twisted with jealousy. She quickly lowered her head so no one would see.
"Um... Sister-in-law, are you Sheng Jiaojiao, the younger sister of the Sheng family?" Wen Wenjin asked in surprise.
He was Sheng Shijing’s classmate and Wen Qing’s older brother. He had seen Gu Jiaojiao many times before.
"I was the Sheng family’s adopted daughter, but I cut ties with them a few months ago. My biological father’s surname is Gu, and my name is Jiaojiao."
Gu Jiaojiao admitted it openly. Anyone who knew of her would know her past, so there was no need to hide anything.
"My name is Wen Wenjin. I was your older brother’s... uh... Sheng Shijing’s classmate. Do you remember me?"
"I remember. Before the eldest brother of the Sheng family joined the military, I often saw you all hanging out together. I haven’t seen you much in recent years."
"I went to Imperial University. After graduating, I worked at a research institute, but I’ve since resigned to work with Su."
Wen Wenjin’s father had told him that Su Shuochi had a boundless future and that he should quit his job to work with him. He himself was only interested in research.
Coming here certainly hadn’t disappointed him. That was why he held Su Shuochi in high regard, and by extension, he showed Gu Jiaojiao a great deal of respect as well.
Holding Gu Jiaojiao’s hand, Su Shuochi introduced her to everyone in the studio.
Wen Qing had been classmates with Song Zijin and once had a crush on him, so she was very familiar with the name Gu Jiaojiao, though she had never met her in person.
So she asked snidely, "Sister-in-law? Weren’t you Song Zijin’s fiancée before?"
"You said it yourself—’before.’ Now, I’m Su Shuochi’s wife. Song Zijin married the true daughter of the Sheng family over ten days ago."
Gu Jiaojiao replied coolly. She wouldn’t be polite to a girl trying to steal her man.
Wen Qing was filled with contempt. "It doesn’t make a difference. You were still Song Zijin’s fiancée. Did you use some kind of trick to marry Su?"
Gu Jiaojiao: ...
’The original owner of this body hadn’t used any tricks to marry Su Shuochi, but Yueyue had used tricks to marry her off to him.’
Seeing Gu Jiaojiao’s silence, Wen Qing became even more certain that she had used some scheme to marry Su.
She questioned her in a nasty tone, "I’m very curious. You lived with the Sheng family for eighteen years.
"How could both sides just sever ties immediately after finding out you weren’t blood-related, as if there were no feelings left at all?"
"You can’t blame me for that. The Sheng family unilaterally announced they were cutting ties. If you want details, you can go ask them.
"Besides, if the Sheng family had been sincere with me, then of course there would be affection. Take the third brother of the Sheng family, for example. We just had lunch together today.
"If not, then we go our separate ways. Is there a problem with that? Don’t tell me you stopped working just to spout this nonsense."
Wen Qing was left speechless by Gu Jiaojiao’s retort. After staring at her for a moment, she said resentfully, "You’re a heartless, ungrateful wretch."
"Miss Wen, is it? Think whatever you like. If you have nothing else to say, then get back to work."
Gu Jiaojiao wasn’t in the habit of placating people, and she certainly wasn’t in the habit of letting herself be wronged. She had only bothered to say this much to Wen Qing to get a better read on her.
She wanted to avoid someone picking fights with her for no reason, the way Yueyue did. It was clear this girl had a crush on Su Shuochi.
"What right do you have to order me around?" Wen Qing was furious.
"How dare you speak to my wife like that? You’re fired. Get out."
Su Shuochi’s deep voice was laced with a chilling, unapproachable coldness. The glint in his eyes was sharp and utterly unfamiliar.
"That’s right. Su is right. Wen Qing, you’re fired. Gao Xiangming, please show her out."
Song Zijie’s eyes narrowed, a ripple of dark green faintly visible in their depths. The corners of his mouth curled up unconsciously.
The look was so sharp and cold it was startling, yet it only made his features all the more handsome. Xi Li stared, mesmerized, her eyes sparkling.
"Wen Qing, you’ve gone too far. You’re fired, and you will never be rehired," Xi Guodong added, stating his position.
"You... all of you... I don’t accept this! Did I say anything wrong? Just you wait! I’m going to get my dad!"
Wen Qing was five-foot-five with fair skin and a slender figure. When she smiled, she usually looked as sweet as a ripe honey peach.
Now, crying with tears streaming down her face, she still looked tragically beautiful. A few of the guys in the studio who had crushes on her wanted to plead her case.
But since the eldest young master of the Xi Family had spoken, they all kept their mouths shut. Everyone knew not to mess with him.
And besides, Su Shuochi was even less someone to be trifled with.
After Wen Qing stormed out, Xi Li finally snapped out of her daze over Song Zijie’s good looks. She walked over to Gu Jiaojiao and said worriedly,
"The Wen family doesn’t have many daughters, so Uncle Wen really treasures Wen Qing. He’s spoiled her rotten. Sister-in-law, do you think she’ll get her dad to come and make trouble for you?"
Gu Jiaojiao glanced at Xi Li and could see her genuine concern, so she explained, "It’s fine. We won’t be afraid even if her father does come.
"In my opinion, people need to have a bit of sense. You can’t just watch your child go down the wrong path and keep defending them no matter what. That’s not protecting your child; it’s harming them."
This reminded Gu Jiaojiao of Yueyue. She had been so spoiled by Mrs. Sheng that she became arrogant and utterly clueless, not to mention she thought she was all that just because she was reborn.
’If Yueyue had put the energy she spent plotting against others into something else...’
’...then Yueyue wouldn’t be such a failure, and she wouldn’t be despised by that scumbag Song Zijin!’
"Jiaojiao is right," Xi Guodong said truthfully. "Uncle Wen isn’t an unreasonable person, and Wen Qing was definitely the one being irrational and causing a scene today."
Xi Guodong was just speaking the truth. He didn’t yet know that Gu Jiaojiao was the Divine Doctor Su Gu, so he truly wasn’t playing favorites.
