Beast World Food Stall: Feeding My Cubs and Taming My Beast Husbands
Chapter 181: Why Sell Your Lives for the Invincible Alliance?
Han Li cracked his knuckles. "An’an, just you watch. I haven’t been in a good fight for a long time. This is the perfect chance to stretch my limbs."
Mo Yan and Feng Xuan silently tightened their grips on their weapons. They had been inexplicably transported to two godforsaken places, and they were both seething with pent-up frustration.
Zhou Dayong and the others also emerged from the space, each holding a weapon as they stood behind Yu An.
The Zaizai wanted to come out too, but Yu An pushed them back one by one. They had no choice but to stay in the space with Chun Nuan and prepare the ingredients for dinner.
’Sigh, it must be great to be a grown-up,’ they thought. ’Then you get to fight.’
In stark contrast to their eagerness, Old Lin was trembling, wishing he could sprout eight legs and flee immediately.
’That’s the Invincible Alliance! And there are a hundred or two of them! We only have thirty or forty people at most. How can we possibly win?’
But he couldn’t escape. Too many pairs of eyes were watching him. If he tried to run, he would be the first one to die.
Thinking back on how he had been knocked out and woken up in a strange place, Old Lin wanted to beat his past, greedy self to death. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
But after working in the space and eating food more delicious than anything he’d ever had, he had been struggling with whether his greed had been a good thing or a bad thing.
’Well, no need to struggle with it anymore,’ he thought. ’I’m about to die anyway.’
Still, his survival instinct pushed Old Lin to try and save himself.
He shuffled tremblingly over to Yu An. "Um, can I go back to that other place and pull weeds? My spiritual power is really low, and I don’t know any Martial Arts. I’ll just be cannon fodder out here..."
"Huh? How did you get out?"
Yu An finally noticed Old Lin. "I didn’t intend to bring you here. In that case, do you want to stay or leave?"
Old Lin didn’t know the place he’d been was a pocket dimension; Han Li had tricked him into believing it was a secluded paradise thousands of miles away, so leaving or staying seemed like a perfectly normal choice.
"If you want to leave, you should go now before the people from the Invincible Alliance get here. Han Li, give him some money."
Before Han Li could even take out the money, Old Lin said quickly, "I’m not leaving, I’m not leaving! Please send me back to that paradise from before. I still haven’t finished weeding the patch of greens I was assigned."
Yu An respected his wishes and sent him into the space.
They were no longer within the borders of Sand City. The sky had grown dim, the temperature had dropped, and a cold wind howled fiercely.
Yu An raised a hand to brush back the hair at her temples. With a slight twitch of her fingers, countless vines hidden just beneath the soil in front of her readied themselves to burst forth at a moment’s notice.
"They’re here."
Ao Wu, who had just returned from scouting in the sky, gripped his weapon. "An’an, be careful."
The corners of Yu An’s lips curved up. "I’ll be safe in the back. You all are the ones who need to be careful. We’re running low on Divine Spring Water."
"I’ll provide support while you all handle the attack. It’s just a hundred or two people. Let’s make this quick. How about hot pot for dinner tonight?"
"Sounds good," Feng Xuan said with a smile. "An’an, I want the spicy broth. It’s perfect for a cold day like this."
Mo Yan objected. "What’s so good about spicy broth? Tomato and clear broth are the best."
"I think..."
Han Li also wanted to voice his opinion, but he had only gotten two words out before the Invincible Alliance arrived.
One or two hundred Beastmen charged out, roaring. They were from all sorts of different races, their weapons fashioned from beast bones and stone. They brandished their Bone Blade Stone Axes, their murky eyes filled with a bloodthirsty light.
"Let me finish!"
Han Li complained before being the first to charge forward.
Beastmen typically fought in their human forms first, only shifting into their beast forms for direct clashes later, so the weapons Yu An had equipped them with proved useful.
Each of them wielded a butcher knife, sharp and intimidating. The Invincible Alliance Beastmen’s weapons couldn’t compare at all.
Yu An was extremely satisfied seeing the damage the butcher knives inflicted. ’There are benefits to plucking a feather from every passing goose,’ she thought. ’In the apocalypse, you just have to grab whatever you can get your hands on.’
Meanwhile, Yu An controlled her vines to trip the Invincible Alliance’s Beastmen or tie them up directly. Lu Lu was far more vicious; as a Companion Spirit Plant born of her superpower, it easily pierced through the Beastmen’s bodies.
In just a short while, out of the two hundred Beastmen, many were dead or wounded. Less than a hundred remained, with fewer and fewer of them still able to fight.
Some of the Beastmen began to tremble in fear, even dropping their weapons to surrender or turning to flee.
’Those Beastmen are so strong, their weapons are incredibly sharp, and they have those strange vines helping them... If we keep fighting, what else can we expect but death?’
Yu An didn’t stop those who fled. As for those who surrendered, she used her vines to pull them to one side, out of the crossfire.
Their leader was trembling all over—with rage.
Although he also wanted to retreat, he forced himself to shout, "No! No running, no surrendering! You know what will happen otherwise! The Alliance Hierarch won’t spare you!"
Yu An took out a megaphone, cleared her throat, and shouted, "Don’t listen to him! Your lives are your own! Why should you throw them away for the Invincible Alliance?"
"I won’t stop you if you run, and I won’t kill you if you surrender. Think carefully about what’s the right choice."
She had expected that more Beastmen would surrender or flee after hearing her words, but that wasn’t what happened.
The Beastmen who had been fleeing returned. Those who had surrendered picked their weapons back up. Even the wounded struggled to their feet...
It could be said that every last one of them who was still breathing used all their strength to continue the fight.
Yu An was taken aback. ’Just what kind of hold or charisma does Ao Yin have,’ she wondered, ’to make them fight to the death for him like this?’
The leader sneered. "Everyone, revert to your beast forms! Once we capture Yu An, we’ll all be heroes! The Alliance Hierarch will grant us any request we make!"
His words were like a shot of adrenaline for the Beastmen. They bellowed, their once-murky eyes turning bloodshot as deafening roars echoed across the sky.
A Bear Beastman, relying on its thick hide, charged forward, swiping a heavy paw toward Han Li at the front.
Han Li’s gaze sharpened, and he too transformed, becoming a giant, snow-white wolf. He nimbly dodged the Bear Beastman’s attack and found an opening to strike back several times, making the Bear Beastman grunt in pain and stumble backward.
Although the Invincible Alliance’s Beastmen were much more formidable after reverting to their beast forms, it wasn’t as if Yu An’s side couldn’t do the same. The two brothers, Ao Er and Ao Wu, transformed into giant dragons, soaring into the sky to dominate the battlefield from above.
Yu An acted silently, her vines covering the mouths of several injured Beastmen who seemed to hold some rank and dragging them into the bushes.
The outcome of the battle was never in doubt; Yu An’s side won. After Mo Yan and Feng Xuan teamed up to kill the leader, the rest of the enemy were either wounded and down or had been taken captive.
Zhou Dayong, while applying medicine to his injured comrades, asked, "Miss, what should we do with these people?"
"Tie them up first," Yu An said, taking out some rope. "Everyone, rest for a bit. We’ll decide what to do later."
"Alrighty."
The captured Beastmen wore looks of utter despair, not struggling at all as they were bound. Yu An then brought back the few she had dragged away earlier.
She exchanged a few words with Feng Xuan, asking him to interrogate the Beastmen, while she went to prepare the broth for their hot pot dinner.
Nothing was more important than food. Eat first, talk later.
Just as she finished stir-frying a spicy broth base, a sudden cry of alarm came from nearby.
"An’an, one of them is dead!"
