Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead
Chapter 796 - 350: The Queen’s Commission (Part 2)
Wu Chang sniffed the air, his brow slightly furrowed, as he detected a faint scent of blood.
Listening carefully, he heard noises and shouting coming from a distant district.
Before he could speak, the coachman took the initiative to say, "Sir, I apologize, the road ahead is blocked, I need to change the route, taking a slightly longer path."
Wu Chang curiously asked, "What happened up ahead?"
The coachman replied, "It’s just a regular worker protest, but they chose the wrong timing, running straight into the line of fire."
Wu Chang followed up with, "A worker protest, for what reason?"
The coachman sighed and answered:
"What else could it be, the usual demands, higher wages, better working conditions, and calls for universal suffrage."
Wu Chang said, "I get the sense from what you said that the protest will turn violent."
The coachman shook his head, "Normally it wouldn’t, but right now the Prime Minister just got, uh, has just passed away, and the police are overwhelmed, already holding back a lot of frustration with nowhere to let it out."
"To launch a large-scale protest at a time like this is adding fuel to the fire, hope not too many people get hurt."
Wu Chang squinted his eyes and said:
"You just said the Prime Minister was assassinated? But I read in the newspaper that he died of a brain hemorrhage."
Upon reaching this point in the conversation, the coachman also opened up, saying:
"Dear sir, you and your wife obviously seem to be foreigners, here for the Industrial Exposition a month later, unfamiliar with Stilan."
"Prime Minister Ron has always been healthy, bearing the nickname Iron Prime Minister, how could he die of a brain hemorrhage?"
"People are speculating that there are other strange circumstances around the Prime Minister’s death."
Wu Chang pulled some bills out of his pocket and handed them to the coachman, saying:
"We are indeed here for the World Industrial Exposition, and just happen to need a local who knows the inside stories to tell us some interesting information."
"For instance, about Prime Minister Ron, and St. Paul’s Cathedral which we’re going to; my wife and I are devout believers, Saint George’s Cathedral is the largest church in Grimland, and we’re very interested in it."
From his false memories, he vaguely recalled a reform of religion having occurred in Stilan.
The original Saint Bishop was replaced by the Holy Awakening Sect.
He wasn’t sure if he was being too sensitive, but the name Holy Awakening Sect reminded him of Revelation.
The coachman touched the bills in his hand; in Stilan, ordinary people mainly use copper and silver coins, only the upper class, disliking the inconvenience of carrying gold coins, would use bills.
For the coachman, the bills were a considerable amount of money.
His attitude became increasingly respectful as he began to talk about the information regarding the Holy Awakening Sect.
Speaking of the change from Saint Bishop to Holy Awakening Sect, Prime Minister Ron is also worth mentioning.
Prime Minister Ron upheld the principle of Stilan First, believing the Vatican exerted influence on Stilan through the Saint Bishop, and to weaken the Church’s power and free themselves from Vatican control, he promoted the establishment of the Saint Awakening Association four years ago.
The Saint Awakening Association maintained the original religious practices, except no longer following the Vatican’s orders, with Queen Olivia as the highest religious leader, Archbishop Smith handling the actual religious affairs.
Archbishop Smith, Wu Chang furrowed his brow, confirmed:
"Julie Smith, the Archbishop?"
The coachman nodded.
Wu Chang clicked his tongue, it seemed their Miss Julie held a higher position than he had imagined, and had closer ties with the Queen.
But that made sense, otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to produce the "King’s Badge" during the incident at the Moonlight Sanatorium.
During the coachman’s explanation, the carriage soon arrived at Saint George’s Cathedral.
Saint George’s Cathedral boasts a history of over seven hundred years.
The cathedral stands three hundred meters tall, constructed entirely of marble, ranking first in Stilan and second in the world, only behind the Vatican Headquarters.
Wu Chang looked up at the sky, where the enormous circular stone dome seemed to pierce the heavens, as if its presence alone held the gray-black clouds aloft from falling to Earth.
The massive cathedral appeared like a super fortress, something only the Extraordinary World could have built seven hundred years ago, a marvel of humanity.
He and Erin entered the cathedral, and even though he held no religious belief, he was still moved by the solemnity within.
The holy statue at the front of the cathedral was of a woman holding a golden horn, with a face of compassion.
He did not recognize the woman’s face, but the golden horn in her hand was all too familiar to him, just as he had suspected, the Holy Awakening Sect was indeed a branch of Revelation.
If the Holy Awakening Sect is a branch of Revelation, then Kristen’s purpose for his assistance became evident.
It was not the nominal highest leader of the Holy Awakening Sect, Queen Olivia, or Archbishop Julie.
Having discovered all this, Wu Chang’s expression suddenly turned peculiar.
If Julie was a follower of Revelation from the very beginning, then everything that happened at the Moonlight Sanatorium was indeed a contest between the Peaceful Sect and Revelation?
He originally thought he was destined to meet Leman, entering the Abyssal Game and becoming entangled with him, little did he know it would be the same with Revelation.
Due to the detour taken on the road and the coachman’s extensive discussion of information on Stilan, they arrived at Saint George’s Cathedral by three-thirty in the afternoon.
With little time left, Wu Chang and Erin simply sat inside the cathedral, listening to the priest at the front preaching.
Erin listened intently, a reflective expression on her face, while Wu Chang wasn’t particularly interested, his gaze casually wandering over the stained glass windows around him.
Before long, someone sat down beside him, quietly remarked:
"Sean, long time no see."
Wu Chang turned his head to look at the woman sitting next to him, it was the nurse Julie who had helped him at the Moonlight Sanatorium.
