Binjiang Police Affairs
Chapter 1247 - 92: The World Is Truly Strange!
While Han Yu was busy cracking down on water smuggling, four public security police officers and a political-legal cadre from Beihu Province arrived at the First Detention Center of the Binjiang City Police Department, accompanied by Branch Chief Huang from the National Security Team, to take someone in custody.
Xu Chenhui was previously just a vagrant taken into custody. However, with the exposure of his "master" and the sect he was involved in, his status changed drastically, turning him into a criminal suspect, and he was transferred by the National Security Team from the Chonggang District reception and deportation station to the detention center.
Considering that he was deeply indoctrinated and unrepentant, Branch Chief Huang invited Tang Wentai to assist the colleagues from Beihu.
They wanted Tang Wentai to talk to him and work on his ideological stance to see if they could get him to actively cooperate with the Beihu police in their investigation.
Unfortunately, Xu Chenhui was like a rock in a latrine, both stubborn and unpleasant, making Tang Wentai feel like he was playing the piano for a cow. With no alternative, Branch Chief Huang had no choice but to process the transfer and hand Xu Chenhui over to the colleagues from Beihu.
Seeing his old classmate handcuffed and shackled, being escorted to the police car by the Beihu police, Tang Wentai felt both hatred and sorrow. He took out a cigarette, smiled bitterly, and asked, "Branch Huang, is his issue very serious?"
"Get in the car, we'll talk about it there."
"Let's finish this cigarette before getting in the car."
"It's fine, we can smoke in the car."
"Alright."
Tang Wentai glanced back at the direction where the Beihu police were taking Xu Chenhui away, sighed softly, and opened the car door to get into the back seat.
Branch Chief Huang signaled the driver to start driving while explaining, "The case officers from Beihu found that in the past year and a half, he wasn't wandering at all. Not only was he not a drifter, but he was doing quite well in Beihu."
"Then why did he evade fares when he came, and why did he not have any money on him?"
"There was a reason for that."
Branch Chief Huang lit a cigarette, blowing smoke, and said, "He is eloquent and has seen much of the world during his time on the road. Not only is he willing to endure hardship, but he also has a relentless determination in everything he does. After practicing that cultivation technique, he became obsessed with it—not only practicing it himself but also teaching it to others. Like a salesman, he promoted it, and in just a year, he established thirteen practice points and four coaching stations in Beihu."
Tang Wentai asked further, "And then?"
"They are organized much like a pyramid scheme. He was too efficient, affecting the status of his 'superior', leading to conflicts. So, he set his sights on Binjiang, believing that our region was a wasteland for the Great Method they talked about, planning to start anew, akin to the spirit of Jianzhen crossing the sea, he came to Binjiang to 'preach and spread the Dharma'."
Branch Chief Huang rolled down the car window, flicked his cigarette ashes, and continued, "When he fell out with his 'superior', he had money, as he sold the most books and CDs about the practice in Beihu. However, there are many thieves in Hanwu, and his wallet was stolen at the dock, so he had to find your classmate who works there."
Tang Wentai murmured, "No wonder he had no money on him, but wasn't poorly dressed. No wonder he didn't look like a vagrant!"
"He hadn't been in that organization for long, but he held a high position in the Beihu branch organization. According to our Beihu colleagues, his position was primarily due to his 'theory' and 'integrity.' Having attended two years of technical secondary school, he was articulate and always managed to provide convincing explanations when others questioned him."
"What's with his integrity?"
"Not everyone who practices truly believes in it. Some unscrupulous elements use it as a way to swindle money. While he sold many books and CDs on the cultivation technique in Beihu, he handed over all that needed to be handed over and wasn't greedy or corrupt. He even helped 'disciples' in financial distress, which was actually the main reason for his fallout with his 'superior.'"
Recalling Xu Chenhui's past decade or so, Tang Wentai analyzed, "He might genuinely believe in it, or perhaps he sees practicing this as a way to achieve personal value in life."
"So compared to those who just practice or intend to use it to swindle money, he's even more dangerous!"
"How dangerous?"
"Director Tang, let me give you some examples: if the media exposes them, they organize their 'believers' to protest or even besiege the media. If law enforcement departments prosecute a few of them, they organize believers to besiege the law departments. Recently, they even gathered thousands of people to Zhongnan Sea…"
Previously, I only knew Xu Chenhui was in big trouble. I didn't expect that he wasn't just in big trouble, but he was a big trouble himself!
Tang Wentai was stunned, unable to believe what Branch Chief Huang was saying.
"After more than a week of preliminary investigation, we found that there are indeed some deceived citizens in Binjiang, but the number is very small—fewer than ten people across several districts and counties, mostly farmers with chronic illnesses who came into contact with this while working in other places."
Branch Chief Huang paused, then continued, "Xu Chenhui is different from those people. He was determined to come to Binjiang to cause trouble. If Director Han hadn't decisively sent him to the reception station, who knows how many people he would have developed in the past two months!"
"You could say Salted Fish made a fortunate stroke unintentionally."
"When we first received the urgent notice from the superior, we were at a loss. We knew nothing about the cultivation technique they practiced nor how to investigate it. It wasn't until we discovered the detained Xu Chenhui and saw his books and his attempts to teach other detainees the practice that we roughly figured out what was going on."
Branch Chief Huang flicked away his cigarette butt, thought for a moment, then laughed, "What we didn't expect was that reporting Xu Chenhui's situation would receive high-level attention from the superior. He had long been on the wanted list of our Beihu colleagues. They looked for him all over the world and couldn't find him, so when they heard we caught him, they were very pleased and excited, immediately contacting us to have him escorted back for trial."
