Chapter 284: "Why did the bird f*ck Jimmy up?"

After the adrenaline rush wore down, Jimmy noticed himself walking funny. His right leg had been quite fucked up, as it should've been, considering the grip strength of the talons of the large bird in front of him, so after making sure that Anna was okay, he gave his leg another look while she observed the bird.

In his calm state, he noticed many imperfections across his prior work as soon as he tapped into his own heartbeat.

His heart was going berserk, for one thing, which made him think that he was fighting an infection of sorts, but that was not the case. His heart was trying to fight the bits of pain, and changes his leg had.

The changes in this case were the imperfections themselves. He had put his leg bone in place, yes, but there were many cracks across it. Some big, some microscopic.

Not to mention, he noticed that his knee was a little bit messed up as well. Knees were difficult to heal, but it explained why he was walking a little funny.

"God damn… how lucky am I to be a healer?" He muttered. "I will keep mentioning that until I die… hopefully of old age."

Within a couple of minutes, he healed his leg entirely. He sealed the little cracks, fixed his knee, and could finally feel complete, and utter relief. He was alright now, he was healthy, and as today had it, he hoped that he would never fall under the talons of a massive bird ever again.

"That shit was horrifying…" He muttered, "I've been living around dinosaurs for weeks, and the animal that fucks me up the most is a jacked up eagle? Unlucky."

"What are you mumbling about?" Anna asked, as she drew her attention away from the bird's carcass.

"Nothing," He smiled, "I was just talking about how lucky and unlucky I am."

"I guess you are," She pinched his cheek, as she could guess what he meant, "Don't worry about it. This is why we travel as a team. Whenever one of us messes up, the other can fix it."

"I suppose," He said.

In regards to fixing, Jimmy was paranoid that he flew over important details in Anna's body when he healed her before. He'd hate for her to get sick later on, or worse yet, feel that her bones were out of place, so he tapped into her heartbeat again without her knowing, and analyzed her body.

In the meantime, Anna asked, "Now can you guys tell me what happened? I was gone for two minutes, and I came out to a bird absolutely fucking you guys up."

Almara groaned. She was still a dinosaur, so she could not answer directly.

Jimmy had to answer on her behalf, as he was the most affected by that clash, after all. He had to multitask.

Since Anna didn't seem to want to get away from the carcass right now, he had to get quite good at multitasking. He kept scanning her body, and looking around the jungle, to see if any other huge animals popped out of nowhere. Animals that wanted to have him for lunch.

"Everything happened so fast, really," He said, "We were eating, and then all of a sudden, this big bastard was over me. My best guess used to be that it simply wanted to fight us for our food, but it didn't even touch the sixty damn pounds of roasted boar meat. It wanted fresh, live meat."

"My God… out of all the things in the jungle, this feathery bastard came to eat you." Anna sighed, and kicked the carcass, frustrated, "What did Almara do? She was a damn puddle when I came out."

Almara groaned in response. She seemed upset, and yet she hovered over them like the jungle's best protector. The bottom of her large reptilian chest bumped on their heads, reminding them that she was here, and she did in fact care.

Continuing to speak on her behalf, he added, "Yeah, she had to shapeshift. Almara tried to help me, she even punched the bird a few times, just like you did, but when she saw that a few punches weren't enough to bring the bastard down, she had to rely on her magic. I guess she miscounted how long it would take for her to shapeshift."

"You can say that again," She tried to stay mad, but ended up chuckling, "She came in and helped at the last minute, when I was already close to killing the bird. I suppose she tried her best…"

"Hiyuu…" Almara growled.

"Yup, she tried to help," Jimmy said, "You know the rest. You came out when this motherfucker was already close to killing me. I was sure it ripped my ear off with its damn beak, but I must have imagined it."

The rest of the details circled the bird itself. The bird could not speak, it was dead, but even if it wasn't dead, it still could not speak to them and explain why exactly it tried to fuck them up.

There were many theories of what attracted this humongous brown eagle to begin with, but the most dominant, and believable theory was that the fire attracted it.

If this species was anything like other predatory flying birds, birds that they were used to from back on Earth, then it likely had a great eye-sight.

It spotted the fire from high above, and was curious to see what could possibly cause such a bright light in the middle of the jungle. They suspected that the fire irritated it too, but by all odds, when it got close enough to the fire, it saw 'live food', otherwise known as Jimmy, and took its chance.

Of course, it couldn't have expected its prey to fight back this hard, and kill it, but that part was beyond them. A bird was a bird, and it acted on instinct.

"I'm just happy we survived," Anna expressed, and rubbed Almara's reptilian chest, so as to help her feel at ease. "This could've gone a lot differently, a lot worse. We could've all died, or at least, one of us could've died, so let's be happy that we survived it somehow."

"Yeah, no shit," Jimmy sighed, "I was the main candidate on the death list, until you came to save my ass."
