Bride Swap Backfire: My Cousin's Rebirth Made Us a Power Couple
Chapter 242 - 103: A Big Fight (Part 3)
Yesterday, after she and her son returned home, her son didn’t even wait for a straight answer before running into the room to rummage through her trunks.
He pulled out the marriage contract from one of the trunks. On it, brazenly written, was the name "Chen Wanyue."
Her son was so enraged he spat a mouthful of blood and fainted on the spot.
Mrs. Li was scared witless. She didn’t dare feign unconsciousness any longer. Scrambling to her feet, she shook her son and ordered Qiaoxin to fetch a doctor.
The doctor arrived quickly. After administering acupuncture and a dose of medicinal decoction, her son revived.
However, after waking, her son seemed to be in a stupor.
He wouldn’t speak, simply lying stiffly in bed, staring at the canopy with tears streaming from his wide-open eyes.
Mrs. Li said everything she could to express her regret, but it was all for naught. Her son’s eyes didn’t even flicker.
With no other options, Mrs. Li decided to try a desperate remedy. She immediately hired an ox cart and headed for the Zhao Village to call off the engagement.
But, just as she’d suspected, the third branch of the Chen family were bloodsucking leeches. Now that they had their sights set on her son, she couldn’t call off the engagement just by saying so.
The old madam and Mrs. Li had a massive argument that even turned physical.
Ignoring the pain, Mrs. Li simply tore the marriage contract to shreds, threw the pieces on the ground, and left, making it clear that the engagement was off.
But how could the old madam and Chen Wanyue possibly let it rest?
They threatened her with Li Cun’s future, saying that if he didn’t marry Chen Wanyue as scheduled, they would go to the county government and file a complaint. They would accuse Li Cun of being a heartless cad who abandoned his fiancée the moment he achieved a little success.
Whether or not Li Cun would be punished, his reputation would certainly be ruined.
With such a stain on his record, they didn’t believe Li Cun’s future prospects would amount to much.
They had Mrs. Li by the throat. Trapped with no way out, she was seething with a chestful of suppressed rage.
This rage only intensified with Li Cun’s hunger strike.
Overcome by desperate anger, Mrs. Li made a terrible move.
At the crack of dawn, she had run to the Zheng family’s home for a private word with Mrs. Zheng, which had led to the current debacle.
The moment Xu Su Ying saw Mrs. Li, all her grievances, new and old, came flooding back.
At this point, she couldn’t care less about her daughter’s warning: ’Don’t fight with Mrs. Li. She’s nothing but rubble, while you’re a precious jade vase. It’s not worth it if you get hurt!’
’Worth it or not, if I don’t give this shrew a beating today, I’ll die of anger!’
Xu Su Ying rolled up her sleeves and lunged, unleashing a flurry of scratches, pinches, and bites on Mrs. Li.
"You conscienceless animal! Our Chen family has practically been your saviors, but instead of showing gratitude, you zero in on us to torment! You don’t want to marry into my family? Fine, I won’t come looking for trouble with you. You look down on my daughter? Well, I look down on your son! But you never should have taken it this far! Bullying my daughter was one thing, but now you’re coming after my husband, my son, and my son-in-law!"
"Do you think everyone in the Chen family is just a lump of dough you can knead and stomp on however you please? Who spoiled you into having such a rotten attitude!"
Xu Su Ying used every ounce of her strength, vowing to pay back every bit of the humiliation she had suffered. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Caught off guard, Mrs. Li shrieked in pain as Xu Su Ying’s fingers dug into her arm, her eyes rolling back in their sockets.
But once she recovered, was she the type to just take a beating?
She had had enough of the Chen family. More than enough.
’Because of this pack of monsters from the Chen family, I’m about to lose my son! My wonderful family is about to be ruined!’
’What’s so great about the Chen family? Why don’t they all just drop dead!’
"I’ll kill you, you vixen! I’ll teach you to seduce my son and destroy the peace of my home!"
Zhao Jing, Chen De’an, Chen Song, and Chen Wanqing were all there. They weren’t about to let Mrs. Li bully Xu Su Ying.
They all rushed forward. Some tried to pull Xu Su Ying back, while others, naturally, grabbed hold of Mrs. Li.
De’an was the one who grabbed Mrs. Li. Cunning as ever, he pinned Mrs. Li’s arms, immobilizing her. This gave Xu Su Ying the perfect opportunity. WHACK! WHACK! She landed two sharp slaps.
With so many townspeople watching the spectacle, it would be unseemly to let the fight continue.
Chen Song hoisted Xu Su Ying over his shoulder and started running toward the government office entrance. "That’s enough, that’s enough! You’ve let off some steam. If you hurt your hand, my heart will ache."
The moment the words left Chen Song’s mouth, several figures emerged from the county government building.
The man in the lead wore a blue-green mandarin square and a black gauze official’s cap. He appeared to be in his forties, with a square face and a short mustache.
At a glance, he had the look of an upright and incorruptible man. And as it happened, Mr. Cheng, the County Magistrate, was a man whose character matched his appearance perfectly: stern, direct, and intolerant of the slightest infraction.
"What is the meaning of this?! Wailing and brawling in front of the county government! Have you no sense of propriety?!"
"Mr. Chen, is this how you conduct your business? If you can’t even handle a trivial matter like this, you may as well resign your post."
The crowd fell silent. You could have heard a pin drop.
Forget the townspeople; even the constables from the county government tensed up, their faces grim as if facing a formidable enemy.
After a moment, the county government constables were the first to react. They bowed in unison. "Greetings, my lord."
Only then did everyone else snap out of it, calling out in unison, "Greetings, Lord County Magistrate."
