Chapter 96

The next morning, a yellow taxi slowly pulled up in front of the towering BluePeak Corporation building.

Alex stepped out calmly after paying the old driver his money, and adjusted the sleeve of his black jacket before looking up at the massive glass skyscraper reflecting the morning light.

Usually, arriving at a place like this in a taxi would have looked very strange for someone like him who had actually dressed decently for once in this life. But unfortunately, his beautiful Lamborghini Murciélago was currently sitting inside an ultra expensive mechanic workshop getting her scratches fixed and tyres replaced after yesterday’s little fiasco with the black Mambas.

Just thinking about what those idiots had done to his car made him regret not hitting them harder. Oh well! At least he did manage to get something decent from that cowardly old dog.

[It still hurts my poor soul just thinking about our baby getting injured like that]

’Don’t be so dramatic. It’s only going to be gone for today. By anytime tomorrow we should be getting her back as good as new.’

[It better be. I’m already starting to miss her]

Alex ignored the melodramatic system that had lately started to be more dramatic than ever after watching soap operas, especially when he was asleep, and began walking toward the building entrance.

Various employees of all shapes and sizes, dressed in corporate suits that made them look professional and smart, moved in and out of the revolving glass doors while security guards stood near the lobby entrance with professional expressions.

The moment Alex entered the building, several female employees subconsciously glanced toward his tall figure. Some of them slowed their steps to admire him more, while others outrightly stared at him.

A few whispers immediately spread through the lobby, of which he was able to catch since they were not being particularly discreet about it.

"Hey girl... Do you know who that hot guy is?"

"I’m not really sure but maybe he might be a new employee."

"Wow, he looks really cute. I pray that if he really is a new employee that he’ll work in my department, so that I can at least get to see his face everyday."

"Sorry to burst your bubbles guys but didn’t you hear the announcement by the chairwoman herself. That man, Alex is the largest shareholder and her man. I could have sworn she posted it on the company’s official forum yesterday."

"Too bad he’s already taken. I would have gone for him, but none of us here can even hope to compete with the chairwoman in terms of beauty. Though I would admit they make a good couple."

"I can’t help thinking of it. What do you think their future children are going to look like? I bet they would break the scale of beauty in this world."

Alex had already grown used to reactions like this especially after his body kept on getting enhanced after each level up. His appearance right now carried an unusual level of attraction that made him stand out anywhere.

Though, one thing from their whispers did manage to make his eyes widen. The part about Nyx declaring him as the largest shareholder and most importantly as her man to the entire company was in a way good.

As he continued walking he suddenly spotted a lone figure at the center of the lobby. From the figure’s build he discovered that it was Andre.

The middle aged man was wearing a clean dark blue suit that looked slightly old and worn out at the edges but it was still neatly ironed. The moment Andre spotted him, his grey eyes lit up instantly.

’Mr Walker.’

Andre called while hurrying forward respectfully.

Compared to yesterday, the exhaustion and despair that had been on his face were completely gone. Now, this very moment, he looked like a man who had just gotten his entire world back after almost losing it.

After all, Lily was still alive. And not just alive, but perfectly healthy.

Alex gave a small nod.

"You came early. I see you’re indeed a man of your word."

Andre lowered his head slightly.

"I couldn’t really sleep much last night. Lily just kept on smiling and talking non stop. The doctors still look like they’ve seen a ghost. They even kept calling it a medical miracle."

A faint warm smile appeared on Alex’s lips.

"I can only imagine how happy you must be."

"Yes I’m really happy sir. You know, for the first time in a long while my girl finally ate pizza without throwing it up. I can’t thank you enough."

Andre said while looking at Alex with deep gratitude hidden in his eyes.

Truthfully speaking, every time he remembered his daughter laughing in that hospital room, his loyalty toward the young man before him deepened even more.

To him, this young man standing in front of him wasn’t just his new boss anymore. He was his daughter’s savior.

"I told you I’d keep my word. Now let’s go to the upper floor."

As they began walking toward the private elevators, several employees immediately straightened their posture after recognizing Alex.

But before they could reach the private elevator a young man around his age, dressed in a sharp security uniform suddenly stepped into their path.

His name tag read Billy, and from his facial expression alone, he looked more like a young man who was eager to prove his diligence. People like him were rare in the future.

"Excuse me, gentlemen," Billy said while raising a hand politely and at the same time firmly. "But this elevator is reserved for high level executives and shareholders only. The general elevator for employees is located toward the north wing. Sorry to ask, but do you have an appointment or ID badge?"

Andre wanted to speak, his protective instincts for his benefactor flaring up. After all, someone like Alex who could casually buy a Lamborghini Murciélago without batting an eye had no reason to be treated like an ordinary employee. People like him were either sons of wealthy business tycoons, or executives in big offices.

But Alex stopped him with a faint amused smile playing on his lips; he wasn’t really offended by the young guard. He actually even appreciated a man like him who did his job well.

Before Billy could continue his speech about security protocols and all that stuff, an older female employee behind the reception desk turned pale. She scrambled out from behind her desk, nearly tripping over her own heels as she rushed over.

"Billy stop!" She hissed while grabbing his arm and pulling him back. Then she leaned into his ear and whispered, but Alex was still able to hear every word clearly.

"Are you crazy? That’s Alex Walker! He’s the new largest shareholder and the boyfriend of the chairwoman!"

Billy’s eyes widened as all the blood drained from his face instantly. With shaky hands he stepped aside, bowing so low he was practically doubled over and apologized.

"I.. I am so sorry, Mr Walker! I’ve been on annual leave for two weeks, I didn’t realize you were a shareholder... Please, forgive my ignorance!"

Alex offered a smile and patted his shoulder before leaving.

"It’s fine. You were just doing your job. Just make sure to keep that same energy for people who actually don’t belong here."

The poor man visibly relaxed after hearing Alex’s calm response. Soon, the elevator doors slid open, making Alex and Andre step inside. As the lift ascended toward the upper floors, Andre finally couldn’t hold his curiosity anymore.

"Mr Walker... Are you really the largest shareholder of this place?"

Alex casually leaned against the wall and nodded.

"Well if you think of it, yeah."

Andre’s heart shook slightly again. Even after witnessing yesterday’s miracle, moments like this one still reminded him how absurdly powerful the young man beside him truly was.

He was young, handsome, rich, mysterious and somehow capable of curing something as terrifying as cancer. Honestly, the more Andre thought about it, the scarier Alex became.

Alex, meanwhile, was busy thinking about something else entirely.

Even though he now technically possessed the highest shares, he still understood one important thing clearly. A corporation like this wasn’t a playground where he could just randomly throw people into high executive position just because he felt like it.

That kind of behavior would destroy the internal structure of the company and create unnecessary resentment toward Andre.

Yeah, Andre was talented but he still needed more time, experience and exposure. He wanted him to naturally rise while remaining under his wing until he reached a level where he was ready to handle the big roles.

And the assistant logistics manager sounded like just the perfect starting point for him. Besides, with Andre’s ability, promotion would come sooner or later anyway.

Finally, the elevator reached the familiar executive floor that he had managed to visit twice, with this making it his third time.

At the very end of the hallway stood the executive chairwoman’s office which caused Alex to unconsciously slow down.

[Are you honestly nervous by the prospect of seeing your wifey?]

’No I’m not."

[Don’t even bother to lie. I can literally see it all over your face]

Alex decided to ignore the system and continued walking.

It’s not like he was avoiding her or anything but things between him and Nyx were still... How should he say it? Complicated. Like very complicated.

That woman was dangerous in ways most people couldn’t even begin to understand. Just that night alone had made him have mixed feelings about her. The way she manipulated the entire thing, had him feeling more wary of her.

Andre noticed Alex slowing slightly but wisely pretended not to see anything. Soon they reached the office doors. A secretary outside immediately stood up the moment she saw him.

"Good morning, Mr Walker."

Alex nodded lightly.

"Is Nyx inside?"

"Yes sir. The chairwoman said you could enter anytime whenever you come."

Of course she did. Without waiting further, he pushed open the office door and walked in alongside Andre.
