Campus Ace Girl
Chapter 819 - 820: At It Again—Quarreling to the Death Upon Meeting
King Jingyao listened to his mother and smiled faintly, then closed his eyes.
He was too tired; he struggled to stay awake but eventually fell asleep.
When he woke up again, it was already nighttime. The lights in the ward were dimmed, and it was very quiet.
He turned his head and looked around. Two nurses were on duty, quietly discussing something, likely his condition, and there was a small figure wrapped in a little blanket on the sofa. Her little head was tucked in, with a tuft of hair sticking out, looking quite smooth.
She must be exhausted.
She was even snoring.
King Jingyao turned his head slightly and easily caught sight of her, quietly watching her for a while.
His expression was unclear.
After a long time, he spoke in a hoarse voice, "The air conditioning is a bit low, raise the temperature a bit."
The little nurse was startled by his voice and immediately came over gently, "Mr. Wang, you’re awake?"
King Jingyao hummed in response and closed his eyes slightly again, "Adjust the temperature."
The nurse quickly obliged, and after a careful check-up, King Jingyao’s gaze landed on the sofa opposite, "She didn’t go home?"
After a moment, the nurse realized he was asking about Doctor Gu, and she nodded, "Yes, Doctor Gu even had dinner in the ward, and hasn’t left the ward at all."
The nurse continued and asked, "Mr. Wang, are you feeling uncomfortable? Do you need me to wake Doctor Gu?"
King Jingyao shook his head, "No need, let her sleep a while."
He strangely remembered what the Bo Family always mentioned, saying the child was still growing.
Grow, my foot, she’s already fully grown, even excessively so, with a BIG gall, and her brain and wit grew more than others.
Old Wang felt both amazed and something else, lying there with complex emotions, realizing his body wasn’t as bad as he imagined. Maybe there was some fever, and a surgical wound on his abdomen, but nothing unbearably severe.
After lying for a bit, he asked the nurse, "When is Professor Bo coming back?"
The little nurse shook her head, "We don’t know about that."
King Jingyao didn’t say anything else, quietly lying there... He stayed awake till around five in the morning.
On the other side, An An suddenly woke up, not knowing why she felt an eerie chill in her heart that startled her awake. She sat up, adjusted to the light, and then her gaze landed on King Jingyao’s face.
He was awake, staring directly at her.
Gu Anxi stretched lazily and got up to approach, "First thing in the morning and not sleeping, mourning your lost love again, huh? Don’t worry, Dr. Jiang will come to see you at daybreak."
Old King initially felt slightly touched and even a little softness inside; who could refuse a little fella lying there with smooth hair? But as soon as she woke up, she started being sarcastic with him again, can’t she speak properly, can’t she be more agreeable?
Old King’s temper flared so much that he almost tore his wound apart, trying so hard to hold back and grunting out, "It’s not as you wish, I’m still quite popular."
Gu Anxi checked him while sarcastically retorting, "Oh, do they fancy you because you’re old or because you don’t shower?"
"I shower every day," Old King said word by word.
Gu Anxi answered, "Oh, so showering is the bare minimum standard, but no matter how much you shower, you’re still of age."
King Jingyao was so angry he didn’t want to pay her any attention, but after a while, he asked, "Where’s Jingchuan?"
"At home in his warm bed," Gu Anxi withdrew her hand, "He’s your secretary-general, not your nanny."
Old King glared at her.
Gu Anxi turned her face away and told the nurse, "Go get the medicine and prepare the IV."
She turned back, "For the next three days, you can’t eat anything, only rely on nutritional supplements. If there’s no accident, you can be discharged in a week."
King Jingyao somewhat indignantly asked, "What if there’s an accident?"
Gu Anxi rubbed her chin and spoke leisurely, "Your uncle will be back in three days."
"What do you mean?" King Jingyao was highly alert.
The little milk spirit smiled mischievously, "To patch you up, fix you up a bit."
Old King was furious, furious enough to refuse to eat, and just then, the nurse came in hearing their quarreling, holding back laughter, "Doctor Gu, the nutritional supplements are ready, here’s the antibiotic."
Gu Anxi took it and personally administered the IV for King Jingyao, he frowned for a moment when the needle pierced his skin, and out of habit, Gu Anxi jabbed at him, "Acting like a little princess, are we?"
King Jingyao: ...
He endured it, turned his face away, and after a while couldn’t stand it and said, "Don’t think you can just write off previous matters by doing a little surgery."
Triggered by her provocation, he had forgotten the promise to the old lady, just wanting to argue fiercely with her.
Gu Anxi sneered, "That’s perfect, I didn’t plan on reconciling with you, anyway. By the way, I’ve accepted your inheritance, you’re not going to ask for it back, are you? I know the elderly love their wealth."
King Jingyao was so angry his teeth itched, "Don’t worry, I won’t take it back!!!"
The little milk spirit felt at ease, stood up, and suddenly said, "Help Mr. Wang change the urine bag."
King Jingyao’s face froze!
Why did she have to say such a thing outright?
He gritted his teeth, "I can go to the bathroom by myself."
"Rest assured, Dr. Hao helped with the catheter and urine bag," Gu Anxi maliciously said.
Old King lay flat, humming angrily.
If he could walk now, he would have walked away long ago, probably getting angry to death staying here.
While the two were quarreling, the ward door opened unexpectedly, surprising Gu Anxi: "Mr. Li?"
Mr. Li first nodded at King Jingyao then said, "Anxi, come out for a moment, there’s something."
Gu Anxi pursed her lips, her heart pounding as she slowly walked out.
As she left, King Jingyao kept his eyes on her.
Once outside, she closed the door and asked Mr. Li, "What’s the matter?"
Actually, Mr. Li being in the hospital at this hour already explained the situation enough, but she still asked.
Indeed, Mr. Li thought for a moment before speaking slowly, "Mrs. Tang is gone."
Gone...
Gu Anxi felt disoriented for a moment, inhaling through her nose, "Left just now?"
Mr. Li nodded, "Yes, not doing well since last night, suddenly went downhill during the night... just passed."
He hesitated before asking, "Do you want to see? They’re going to take her away soon."
Gu Anxi stood quietly for a moment, "Let’s go."
They walked silently to Tang Yuan’s ward, the nurse had tidied up already, and through a glass window, Gu Anxi saw Gu Mingzhu weeping like pear blossoms in the rain. It was then she truly felt Gu Mingzhu was quite pitiful because the one who loved her the most in this world, had truly left.
"Anxi?" Mr. Li called her softly, "Aren’t you going in?"
Gu Anxi stood at the door, looking at the person on the bed covered with a white cloth, and let out a long breath, "No, just seeing from here is enough."
Mr. Li didn’t go in either, staying outside with her.
She didn’t know how long it took, until her eyes were sore and dry, before turning around and leaving.
From start to finish, she didn’t go in, not because she still bore any resentment, but because from beginning to end other than a cold birth, she and Tang Yuan had no connections.
Now the person was gone, just taking a glance was enough.
In the future, there would be even less connection between them.
Yet, her heart was still heavy.
