Even for those six years, she didnโt want to think about it. ๐๐ฟ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐จ๐๐๐.๐๐ ๐
Now, Percy had forcefully dug it all up!
Isabel Smith stared at Percy Stanton, unconsciously gripping the document bag in her hand.
Just before Percy approached Isabel, he noticed the document bag she was holding tightly. His pace halted, and he suddenly crouched down on the spot.
It was quiet inside the house. The two of them stared at each other, and neither of them spoke.
After an unknown amount of time, Percy cleared his throat. His usually cold voice carried a hint of hoarseness, "Isabel, listen to me..."
Percyโs attempt to speak made Isabel snap back to her senses, and without thinking, she interrupted him, "Say what?"
"Say that you have the power to uncover a personโs entire past as long as you want to know?"
When Isabel saw the investigation materials, she had been in a daze the whole time. She didnโt even know what she was thinking deep down. But when she suddenly heard Percyโs voice, she realized that she was actually angry.
Yes, how could she not be angry?
How could someoneโs past be dug up in such a naked and shameless way, and for her not to feel angry?
She didnโt know the initial intentions behind Percy investigating her past, but it was her business. If he wanted to know, he could ask her. Why did he choose such a disrespectful method, doing it secretly behind her back?
Isabel had always felt that Percy was a graceful and gentlemanly man who knew how to respect others. But now, she realized that this man, whom she believed to be respectful, could hurt her more than anyone else.
Percyโs throat itched from Isabelโs tone, feeling like a rebuke. He was usually calm and composed, able to think of ways to settle even the most turbulent situations with ease. But now, he found himself at a loss for words, not knowing what to do.
Moreover, he had indeed ordered the investigation on Isabel!
He knew it was disrespectful, but he did it anyway. Now that the matter had come to light, he was unusually speechless, not knowing how to explain to Isabel.
In the end, Percy pursed his lips and said to Isabel, "Isabel, please donโt be angry..."
"Percy, youโre telling me not to be angry? Then tell me how I can not be angry? If someone investigated your past and could uncover every single detail, down to the exact moment and place where you were, would you not be angry?"
As Isabel said this, she suddenly felt the urge to laugh. Though she tried to maintain a calm tone, she couldnโt help but let out a derisive laugh, "Percy, youโre telling me not to be angry now, but when you were investigating me, why didnโt you think about whether I would be angry?"
"Now Iโve seen this investigation material, and if I hadnโt, would I have been like a fool who didnโt know what you were doing behind my back?"
Just a few days ago, she felt warmth and touched by this man. She thought her life was in a pitiful state, and she needed someone to accompany her. If Percy was willing, she was ready to go along with the flow with him.
And now, this happened.
She felt that these investigation materials were like a resounding slap across her face, cruelly mocking her.
All along, she thought she had understood Percy well enough. But now, she realized she couldnโt even read this man who had been with her for more than half a year.
The more Isabel thought about it, the more ridiculous she felt.
She couldnโt connect the man who investigated her with the man who would stand up for her in times of crisis, or the man who touched her heart with his careful and thoughtful gestures in even the smallest details.
