Chapter 33: Chapter 33: What Right Do You Have for Her to Care So Much?

Terror filled Seraphina Sutton’s delicate face. Her eyes lit up when she saw Wren Wynter. Before Wren could even react, Seraphina suddenly shoved her.

Wren stumbled back several steps before catching her balance.

Just as she was about to speak, something cold and sharp pressed against her throat, and a woman grabbed her by the hair.

The woman’s grip was vicious, and a sharp pain shot through Wren’s scalp.

"I’m not the person you’re looking for. Let me go."

Wren said calmly. The woman’s eyes scanned Wren’s face, and the fury in her expression intensified.

"I recognize you! You’re the doctor who killed my husband! It was you!"

"I don’t even know your husband. You’ve got the wrong person."

"I’m not mistaken! It was you! Why didn’t you stop that evil woman? If you had just stopped her from saving that dog, my husband would still be alive!"

Wren understood.

’So this is the relative from the accident. But what did I do wrong?’

"I tried to persuade her, but she was the one who insisted on wasting time. It has nothing to do with me. Your quarrel is with her, so go find her."

"I don’t care! You must be in it together!"

The woman seemed to have lost her mind, yanking Wren’s head back by her hair.

Wren felt a chunk of her hair rip out from the root. The pain contorted her features.

"Stop!"

Kaden Xavier rushed to the scene. He had heard the negotiations failed and that there was trouble, so he came immediately. ’Seraphina is pregnant. This is incredibly dangerous.’

"We can talk about this. Whatever compensation you want, I’ll do my best to provide it. Just let her go first."

"No way! Not unless you hand over that evil woman!"

Kaden Xavier frowned. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

’Isn’t Seraphina already her hostage?’

’Why is she telling me to hand Seraphina over?’

When he got a clear look at the person in the woman’s grasp, his pupils contracted. His heart leaped into his throat, and he cried out, "Wren!"

’Didn’t she go to meet a friend?’

’What terrible timing!’

When Wren didn’t come back after a while, Joy Lynch, Ho-ran Park, and the others came out to look for her, only to be met with this scene.

Shaun Quinn instantly flew into a rage.

He was about to charge forward but was held back by Ho-ran Park and Leif Shaw.

"Don’t be rash! If you go up there, you’ll only provoke the woman into hurting Wren!"

Leif Shaw had only just returned last night and hadn’t even had a chance to see Wren yet. He never imagined their reunion would be like this.

Shaun Quinn’s eyes were bloodshot. His fists were clenched as he watched the woman’s every move with a death glare.

"Kaden, I’m so scared... She... she wants to kill me."

Seraphina Sutton appeared at Kaden Xavier’s side, clutching his clothes fearfully and putting on a pitiful, helpless expression.

"Seraphina, I’ll have someone take you somewhere to rest."

"Don’t you move!" the woman screamed, pointing a finger at Seraphina Sutton with a crazed look in her eyes. "Either you give me this woman, or I’ll kill her!"

As she spoke, she tightened her grip. A red line immediately appeared on Wren’s slender, pale neck.

"Don’t hurt her!"

Shaun Quinn blurted out, veins popping on his forehead. His expression was absolutely livid.

Kaden Xavier’s gaze followed the voice and met Shaun Quinn’s tense expression. A sudden pang of irritation flared within him.

"Don’t hurt her! I’ll give you anything you want!"

"I don’t want anything! Nothing! I just want her to pay with her life!"

The woman was on the verge of a complete breakdown.

At that moment, Wren suddenly became calm. Her gaze, completely steady, fell on Kaden Xavier.

’She wanted to see what choice he would make.’

"Wren, don’t be afraid. I won’t let anything happen to you!" Kaden Xavier said through gritted teeth.

Seraphina Sutton bit her lip, clutching her stomach and crying out in pain, "Kaden, my stomach hurts! Help me! Save Asher’s baby!"

"Seraphina, what’s wrong? I’ll take you to a doctor right now!"

Kaden Xavier glanced back at Wren, a hint of apology in his eyes. Then, as if he’d made a decision, his voice turned cold.

"I’m not handing Seraphina over."

At his words, Wren closed her eyes in despair, a bitter smile touching her lips.

’What was I even expecting?’

’I already knew what the outcome would be, didn’t I?’

"You animal! Wren is your wife! How could you do this to her?!"

Shaun Quinn shook off Ho-ran Park and Leif Shaw, stormed up to Kaden Xavier, and hammered a fist into his handsome face.

"Kaden!"

Seraphina Sutton shrieked, covering her mouth. While shocked by the sudden violence, she was also struck by Shaun Quinn’s stunning looks.

’A man could actually be that beautiful.’

Shaun Quinn grabbed Kaden Xavier by the collar, his face contorted with rage.

"What did Wren ever see in an animal like you! You can’t even protect your own wife! What gives you the right to be the one she cares about?!"

Kaden Xavier, not to be outdone, fought back, and the two men quickly descended into a brawl.

"Shaun! Don’t be rash! Stop it!"

Ho-ran Park and Leif Shaw snapped out of it and ran over to pull the two men apart.

Seraphina Sutton rushed forward to check on Kaden Xavier’s injuries, but he shoved her away.

"How I handle my business is no concern of an outsider like you! Wren is my wife, and she always will be!"

Wren remained expressionless.

She watched the chaotic scene unfold before her, then spoke slowly to her captor, "Aren’t you afraid of the consequences of doing this?"

"Consequences? HAHAHA! My husband is dead, my son is dying from his illness, my family is ruined... What consequences could I possibly fear?! Even if I die, I’m taking someone down with me!"

"But have you thought about how heartbroken your husband would be if he knew you were doing this?"

Wren’s words struck a chord. The woman froze, her gaze turning vacant.

"He would never want you to do something so foolish for his sake. He’d want you to live a good life, even if he’s not by your side. Think about your child. Think about him."

"But he’s gone, and now my son is leaving me too! I have nothing left to live for! What’s the point of me going on?!"

"I can help you," Wren said softly. "I can take a look at your son. I’ll do everything I can."

The woman’s grip slackened. Wren could feel the blade slowly moving away from her neck.

"But I’ve been to so many doctors... They all said there’s no cure... no cure..."

"What’s done can’t be undone. You have to look forward. You still have your son. If not for yourself, you have to think of him. Don’t you want to find a way for him to live?"

As expected, the moment her son was mentioned, the woman released Wren. She collapsed to the ground, burying her face in her hands and sobbing uncontrollably.

Seeing that Wren was safe, Shaun Quinn stopped struggling with Kaden Xavier and rushed to her side. Grabbing her by the shoulders, his icy demeanor from the day before was gone, replaced by sheer panic.

"Are you okay? Are you hurt?"

When he saw the cut on Wren’s neck, the murderous rage in his eyes could no longer be contained. He glared down at the woman on the ground, a terrifying aura radiating from him.

"You’re dead!"
