Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 37: What a Good Accident
When Wren Wynter returned home, she found a familiar stretched Lincoln parked in front of the villa.
She quickly walked inside.
"Grandmother."
Wren put on a graceful smile.
Old Madam Xavier sat primly on the sofa, flanked by a confidante who had been with her for over a decade.
At the sound of her voice, Old Madam Xavier looked up at Wren and gestured to her with a benevolent smile.
"Wren, you’re back. Come here, quickly."
Wren walked over and sat down beside Old Madam Xavier, asking with a smile, "Grandmother, what brings you here?"
"My dear child, you’ve been wronged."
Old Madam Xavier tucked a stray strand of hair from Wren’s cheek behind her ear and sighed with heartfelt gravity.
"I heard from the staff about Seraphina Sutton’s pregnancy. The child is Asher Lynch’s. That boy saved Kaden’s life, so it’s understandable that Kaden would look after her more. But he crossed a line.
I know you feel wronged. I’ve already sent someone to take care of her. She won’t be allowed to ruin your relationship with Kaden anymore."
Wren pursed her lips.
’She and Kaden Xavier never had any feelings for each other to begin with.’
’She was the one who had come between him and Seraphina Sutton.’
"Grandmother, I’m not wronged."
She had meant to reassure Old Madam Xavier, but her voice came out with a hint of a sob, which sounded like resentment to the old woman’s ears.
She patted Wren’s hand sympathetically. "Wren, don’t you worry. As long as this old woman is still breathing, I will never let another woman into this family. The only one who can stand by Kaden’s side is you."
’Marrying Kaden Xavier used to be her dream, but now, her dream was to get a divorce.’
Seeing Wren remain silent, Old Madam Xavier felt a pang of sympathy and began patting her back soothingly, as if consoling a child.
「The hospital.」
Kaden Xavier rushed over.
Seraphina Sutton sat on the hospital bed, her face pale.
"Kaden, you’re here."
A flicker of joy crossed Seraphina’s face, but then, as if remembering something, she timidly shrank back.
"Seraphina, how’s the baby?" Kaden Xavier asked with concern.
"The baby is safe for now, but the mother is weak and the pregnancy is unstable. We advise against any major emotional fluctuations."
An abrupt voice cut in from the side.
Kaden Xavier looked up in the direction of the voice.
He saw Ho-ran Park with his hands in the pockets of his white coat, his eyes glinting coldly behind his gold-rimmed glasses.
’He never imagined his junior would be having such a hard time down here.’
’Her husband was cheating on her, and the mistress was pregnant!’
’He couldn’t imagine what his junior had been through all these years.’
"It’s you."
Kaden Xavier frowned, his gaze darkening.
Ho-ran Park was naturally unafraid of Kaden Xavier’s intimidation. Not only was his mentor’s status in the medical world unassailable, but Kaden couldn’t touch him based on his own background alone.
"She had a bit of spotting when she came in. It’s not a major issue. I’ve prescribed some medication to protect the pregnancy, and she just needs to take it. Avoid any strenuous activity and keep her emotions stable, and she’ll be able to keep the baby."
Ho-ran Park adjusted his glasses, wearing the calm demeanor of a doctor.
But if one listened closely, they could hear a trace of gritted teeth in his voice.
"Weren’t you rushed to the emergency room for heavy bleeding?" Kaden Xavier asked, confused.
"It was just a tiny bit of spotting. Nowhere near enough to warrant a trip to the emergency room," Ho-ran Park said, mercilessly exposing her lie.
Kaden Xavier’s gaze shifted to Seraphina Sutton on the bed, and his eyes lost all warmth.
Feeling guilty, Seraphina lowered her head and gave Kaden Xavier’s sleeve a pitiful tug.
"Kaden, I didn’t mean to lie to you. You care about this baby too, don’t you? I was just so scared."
"But you shouldn’t have used the baby to deceive me," Kaden Xavier said, narrowing his eyes dangerously.
"Mr. Xavier, if you’ll pardon my bluntness, Miss Sutton only does this because you allow it. She knows you’ll tolerate her unconditionally. Since that’s the case, why don’t you two just part ways amicably? Wren is not a fig leaf to cover up your shame."
Ho-ran Park walked past Kaden Xavier, glancing sideways at him and Seraphina with disgust. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
’If it weren’t for his professional ethics, he wouldn’t have even bothered to help Seraphina save the child that was hurting his junior.’
A fit of jealousy seized Kaden Xavier. His expression turned particularly ugly, and it took him a long moment to compose himself.
"My business with Wren is not for an outsider to meddle in. Besides, my relationship with Seraphina is..."
"Kaden!" Seraphina quickly grabbed his sleeve, looking at him with teary eyes. "It’s me and the baby who are dragging you and Dr. Wynter down. But I really want this child. I’m willing to raise him by myself if I have to."
"Can Miss Sutton really raise the child alone and stop bothering them?" Ho-ran Park asked coldly.
An awkward expression flickered across Seraphina’s face. She bit her lower lip, feigning great reluctance.
"Of course I can. This baby was an accident to begin with."
"Some accident."
Ho-ran Park swept another disgusted glance over the pair before leaving the room.
Kaden Xavier pinched the bridge of his nose, a headache coming on.
Seraphina looked up at him and asked softly, "Kaden, did I say something wrong?"
"No. Since the baby is fine, I’m heading back. Wren is still waiting for me at home."
Seraphina’s hands, hidden beneath the blanket, clenched into fists. A flash of venomous resentment crossed her eyes.
’Wren Wynter again! Can’t even the baby keep Kaden here now?!’
"Kaden, can you stay with me for a while? I’m a little scared being in the hospital all by myself."
"Seraphina, you’re crossing the line." Kaden Xavier stared at her, his expression filled with a fierce hostility. The cold, ruthless aura of a man in power was palpable.
’If Seraphina Sutton actually had feelings for him, he would never keep her by his side.’
"I’m sorry, Kaden. I don’t have any other intentions. If Asher Lynch were here, I wouldn’t be bothering you."
Afraid Kaden Xavier would see through her, Seraphina quickly tried to backtrack.
’She knew perfectly well that if Asher Lynch hadn’t saved him and if she weren’t pregnant with this child, Kaden Xavier wouldn’t give her the time of day.’
’Otherwise, he wouldn’t have kept such a clear distance all these years.’
’Besides, she could feel that Kaden Xavier was growing more and more impatient with her.’
’Even though Wren Wynter had asked for a divorce, he didn’t want one.’
Suddenly, someone burst into the hospital room.
"Young Master."
The newcomer gave Kaden Xavier a perfunctory bow.
"Auntie May, what are you doing here?"
"Young Master, Old Madam Xavier is considerate of Miss Sutton’s pregnancy and grateful for Mr. Lynch’s deed of saving your life. She has sent me to look after Miss Sutton’s daily needs until she gives birth."
Kaden Xavier nodded.
’Auntie May was the servant who had been with his grandmother since she got married, having worked for the Xavier Family for decades.’
’With her here to look after Seraphina Sutton, he wouldn’t have to keep running back and forth between Azure Dragon Bay and the hospital.’
"Alright, Auntie May. I’ll leave it in your care then. Let me know if you need anything."
"Yes, Young Master."
"Kaden!"
Kaden Xavier turned back, his gaze scrutinizing.
Seraphina didn’t dare push her luck any further and quickly changed her tune. "Will it be too much trouble for this... auntie? Maybe you should send her back. I can manage on my own."
"It won’t be. Auntie May watched me grow up. With her here, I can rest easy. You just focus on getting better."
With that, Kaden Xavier turned and strode away.
Seraphina glared at his departing back with a sinister expression, her heart filled to the brim with jealousy.
’Kaden Xavier was just using Auntie May to get rid of her, wasn’t he?’
’She wouldn’t let him get his way.’
Her eyes shifted, a dark undercurrent swirling within them.
"Miss Sutton, the Old Madam asked me to give you a message. Not just anyone can enter the Xavier Family. Give birth to the child safely. Otherwise, she won’t mind having both you and the child thrown out of the Capital."
