Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 98: Do You Believe Me?
"I didn’t do it."
Wren Wynter calmly looked at the agitated Seraphina Sutton, certain that she hadn’t pushed her at all.
’But why would Seraphina use the child to frame me?’
’What good would losing the child do her?’
"Dr. Wynter, I know you’re jealous of me. I know you hate me for making you and Kaden divorce. But the child was innocent! This was Asher’s only bloodline! How could you be so heartless?!"
Seeing Kaden Xavier still looking hesitant, Seraphina Sutton decided to add more fuel to the fire. ’I refuse to believe they won’t get a divorce this time.’
Wren Wynter’s face turned cold. She turned to look at the frowning Kaden Xavier and took a deep breath.
"Do you believe me?"
This was the last time she would ask him, a small sliver of hope still lingering in her heart.
’Maybe this time he’ll be willing to believe me.’
Kaden Xavier remained silent, but the look he gave Wren Wynter was tinged with suspicion.
That look was like a bucket of cold water dumped over Wren’s head.
She let out a cold laugh. ’My hope feels like a joke.’
’What was I hoping for?’
’That he would believe me?’
’I’ve been wrongly accused so many times already. Why should this one time matter?’
But to be distrusted again... Wren’s heart couldn’t help but ache.
"I’ll take you home first."
Kaden Xavier didn’t answer Wren Wynter’s question. His gaze and his actions had already demonstrated his distrust.
Wren Wynter quickly composed herself and turned to walk out of the hospital room.
"Cole!"
Nathaniel Quinn tried to stop her but was held back by Kaden Xavier’s hand. A glint of warning and danger flashed in Kaden’s dark eyes.
"Take care of Seraphina."
"But..."
Nathaniel Quinn was reluctant. Seeing this wasn’t going her way, Seraphina Sutton quickly called out to him, her pale little face looking all the more pitifully beautiful.
Kaden Xavier gave Seraphina a guilt-ridden look, then turned and left the room.
Hidden under the blanket, Seraphina Sutton’s hands clenched into tight fists. A flash of jealousy flickered in her eyes.
’Why?’
’Even after all this, why can’t I make Kaden Xavier despise Wren Wynter?’
’Is Asher Lynch’s child still not as important as Wren Wynter?’
Kaden Xavier drove Wren Wynter back to View Gardens. Neither of them spoke much along the way, and the air was thick with a suffocating atmosphere.
When they arrived at View Gardens, Wren pushed the door open to get out. Suddenly, a powerful force from behind yanked her back into the car, pinning her in her seat.
"Did you do it or not?"
The question was like a joke, hammering down hard on Wren’s heart.
She leaned back weakly against the car seat, looked at Kaden Xavier with a sneer, and her red lips parted slightly. "I did. So what?"
Kaden Xavier’s eyes widened in disbelief. He roared at Wren in a fury, "Why? You knew that child was Asher’s last bloodline! Why would you do that!?"
"Because I can’t stand Seraphina Sutton!" Wren Wynter replied calmly. "I can’t stand how she always uses that child to pull you away from me. I can’t stand her phony, pretentious act."
’Since he’s already decided in his heart that I’m responsible for Seraphina’s miscarriage, there’s no need for me to explain any further.’
’I’ll just confirm his suspicion that I’m the culprit. I can even use this opportunity to divorce Kaden Xavier.’
Kaden Xavier stared at Wren, hoping to see a sign that she was lying, but to his disappointment, there was none.
Wren met his gaze with unwavering determination, her jealousy practically spilling from her eyes.
He slumped back into the driver’s seat, utterly drained. One hand covered his face while the other rested on the steering wheel.
"I’ve told you so many times. Once the child was born, I would have made her leave The Capital and disappear from our lives. Why couldn’t you just wait a little longer?"
"I couldn’t wait!"
Wren answered. He always said to wait. She had waited. And that wait had lasted three years!
’I don’t want to wait anymore!’
"Let’s get a divorce," Wren said calmly. "If we don’t, you’ll have no way to face Asher Lynch’s parents, and even less face to see the deceased Asher himself."
Kaden Xavier fell silent. Wren was right. He hadn’t taken good care of Seraphina. He hadn’t handled their relationships properly, which led to Wren’s misunderstanding and caused her to push Seraphina out of jealousy.
’I no longer have the face to see Asher.’
Kaden Xavier was silent for a long time before he finally nodded.
"Then let’s get a divorce."
Hearing the word "divorce" come from Kaden Xavier’s lips, Wren finally breathed a sigh of relief.
’After being entangled for so long, it’s finally over.’
Kaden Xavier called Hugh Hale and asked him to bring the divorce agreement Wren had given him before to View Gardens.
A short while later, Hugh Hale arrived.
She hadn’t seen him in a long time. He had lost a lot of weight, and there were faint dark circles under his eyes. Although he had deliberately tried to cover it with cologne, Wren could still smell alcohol on him.
’It seems he hasn’t been doing well since Crystal broke up with him.’
"Miss Wynter, long time no see."
Wren nodded slightly, unable to stop herself from asking out of concern, "Are you okay?"
"Yes, I’m fine. Thank you for your concern."
Hugh Hale took the prepared divorce agreement out of his bag and placed it in front of Kaden Xavier and Wren Wynter. There were two copies.
"You should look over the terms. I don’t want anything extra, but I won’t give up a single thing that’s mine."
"Okay."
Kaden Xavier didn’t even look at it. He signed his name directly.
"You’re really not going to look? Aren’t you afraid I’ll screw you over?"
"I saw it last time."
It was nothing more than the house at View Gardens. Wren hadn’t asked for anything else.
"Kaden, as you requested, I’ve added compensation to the agreement. In addition to the house at View Gardens, Miss Wynter will also receive five percent of the Xavier Group’s shares and seven properties under your name."
Whoa!
’Kaden Xavier really is generous.’
’Never mind the five percent of Xavier Group’s shares, the seven properties alone are worth nearly a hundred million.’
’Not to mention the five percent stake.’
But Wren didn’t want to have any more ties to Kaden Xavier.
"I don’t want the five percent stake. If you want to compensate me, just convert the shares into cash."
Kaden Xavier was silent, then gave a bitter smile.
’Does she really want to have nothing to do with me that badly?’
"Alright."
Kaden Xavier agreed.
With this, Wren would receive a hefty compensation, enough for her to live the rest of her life without any worries.
Wren decisively signed her name. When it was Kaden Xavier’s turn, however, he found that he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
He didn’t want to get a divorce.
But if he didn’t, how could he face Asher and his parents?
After a long moment of thought, he finally signed his name.
"I’ll have the finance department wire the money directly to you."
"Here, this is for you."
Wren took out the supplementary credit card Kaden Xavier had given her and handed it to him. With a complicated expression, Kaden took the card, turned, and left without looking back.
"Now that you’ve signed the divorce agreement, the thirty-day cooling-off period begins. In thirty days, I will notify you both to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to finalize the divorce proceedings."
