Chapter 29: 029 | Vanya’s Fear & Threat of "Victory"

While Reyansh fell unconscious after undergoing the Mythical brutal reconstruction, his sister, Vanya, just returned from her school.

After putting her things aside, she checked on her mother, seeing no changes, she moved towards her brother’s room.

However, she found a note taped on the closed gate. She looked at the note with curious eyes as her brother wasn’t the type to leave notes.

She read the short note in one breath, a smile bloomed on her face as she reached the end reading, "Best Hunter."

She took up the pen and added the word, "Second" ahead of "Best." Also wrote a note in the end.

"Try a bit harder brother, I won’t take action against you for hogging my title, this time."

– Magnanimous Sister & The Best Hunter.

She took a water bottle from fridge and sat near her mother as many memories welled up inside her, both painful and happy, silence only fueling her loneliness.

She was the youngest and most loved in the house. So when her father died mysteriously in a dungeon run, her brother didn’t weep but started working so she and mother wouldn’t have to face difficulties in these turbulent times.

Her mother showered more love on her instead of taking the time to properly grieve about her husband’s demise, just so that she didn’t feel alone.

But as she grew, she started to see the sacrifices her family was making for her.

After her mother fell into coma due to the Excess Mana Syndrome, her brother stepped up and took on the responsibility of a parent too. While working multiple jobs, just to pay for her needs and mother’s treatments.

"Hello, mom, how are you?" she spoke in a heavy voice, after taking a sip from the bottle.

"It’s been months since you woke up. When will I be able to talk to you normally?" she questioned, without any expectation of an answer.

"I don’t know if brother told you or not but he awakened as a Hunter now. So he would be getting you best treatment anytime soon. So please wake up mom." She pleaded as her cheerful composure started breaking.

"I need you to wake up mother because I am scared. I am scared that something could happen to Bhaiya (brother) and I will not able to do anything besides being a deadweight, again." She shared as her eyes teared up.

"I am topper of my class too but I am not strong like brother. I need you mother. I know that this is selfish and I have always been the sheltered child. But I have no one to talk to, beside you." Two streams of tears rolled down her cheeks.

"I don’t want to burden brother any further after everything he has been doing for us, for me. He just broke the hand of son of a guildmaster trying to protect me. I couldn’t do anything." Her shoulders trembled slightly

"I could have handled that bully too but I couldn’t gather up the courage to face him because I was scared of the consequences. So brother had to step in, which should have been done by me." She wiped her tears, sharing the reason behind this emotional talk, only for tears to erupt again.

"Look, I can’t even share something with you without crying. I need courage mother, I am nearing my awakening age, I don’t want to be a weak willed person when I awaken." She clutched the bedsheet.

"I want to be someone who can clear the path for my brother’s dream. I want to repay all that he has done, but I feel I don’t have the strength to take the first step." She put her head on the bed while sitting on the chair.

"So please wake up mother because I don’t know how to be brave alone," she requested as her head lied in the vicinity of her mother’s hand. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

While forever cheerful Vanya struggled with her dilemma, sitting beside her mother. The consequences she was worried about were about to become real as a boy was summoned in a certain guild headquarter.

Guildmaster’s office, Victory Guild

Floor 15, Ananta Building Complex

A man in grey suit was seated in the guildmaster’s chair, while his elbow rested on the table ahead as his eyes were focused on a teenage boy standing in front of him.

The man had a different air around him that screamed strength. The tensed brows on his face was enough to tell about the seriousness of the situation.

"I heard you got your hand broken for fifty thousand credits?" the guildmaster, Jai Rajput, asked in a bit sarcastic tone.

The boy only lowered his head, giving a silent acceptance to the question.

"You know we recruit hunters from Sunbeam School. Yet even after being my son, not only you tainted my name but the guild’s name too." Jai scolded, his voice raised.

"We are not some high tier guild, I am trying my best to increase my strength and guild’s reputation. Just so we could step up in the world’s ladder."

"And how are you contributing? By your shitty actions or by being an idiot pushover in front of the whole school. You couldn’t even become the top of your class despite having everything at your disposal." He recounted his actions.

"Father, I was handling the topper of the class when out of nowhere her brother showed up and I couldn’t do anything. I was trying to break her spirit so I could lower her performance and maybe force her to join our guild." The boy responded for the first time with an excuse.

"Hmm..." Jai snorted, "You are my son, I know you don’t have that many brain cells to plan ahead. You only know how to lie." He dismissed his son’s words.

"I also know you use the guild’s name to bully others. I don’t mind because even through your shitty actions, you put some fear in the new recruits. But you have no personal strength to back up your threats."

"That’s why some nobody could break your hand." Jai explained as his looked at Aryan with disappointment.

"Well, he wasn’t a nobody..." Aryan retorted sheepishly.

"Ohh, then who was he?" Jai asked, waiting for his son another lie.

"As I said, he was the brother of topper of our class. Not only that, he is famous as "Elite of the Elites" in our school," Aryan responded truthfully this time.

"What I meant was did he belong to any big faction or top guilds...wait...you said "Elite of the Elites"? A knowing look appeared on Jai face as he remembered the exact phrase.

"Yes, he used to be student of the school, 3 year ago." Aryan reconfirmed.

"3 years ago...I had tried to recruit a student with best theoretical and practical results through Principal of Sunbeam when he failed to awaken naturally." A memory resurfaced in Jai’s mind.

"So his little sister too is better than your my worthless son. I should have pushed more at that time, but I was new to the guild matters and didn’t give it much thought."

"I wouldn’t have to if you were a little bit of useful," he taunted, looking at his son while his mind churned to use this incident in his favour.

"You have good image at School, we could try enticing his sister. If we control her then getting to her brother would be piece of cake," Aryan said confidently, he still remembered the pain and humiliation he had gone through as he tried to cover the broken hand with other one.

"It’s not that simple anymore, the new principal Arpita aka Black_Nails09 is not someone we can trifle with. I just breached into S-rank while she is at peak and on the verge of becoming SS-ranker." Jai explained the difficulty.

"Plus she has powerful sponsors too," he added.

"You don’t hurt yourself trying to come with a plan, I will think of something. Now get away from my eyes and do something productive," He dismissed Aryan.

Without wasting a beat, Aryan left the office while Jai eased himself into his chair and started thinking about ways to trap the "non-awakened" Reyansh and control him.

Though only time will tell who will become the prey.
