So tired, when did things between her and him reach this point?

Even though they were so close to each other, she felt as if there was a chasm between them, uncrossable no matter what.

"Alright, I understand," she said calmly,

Her calmness, however, suddenly filled him with a kind of panic, and he suddenly pulled her into his arms, "Even if we don’t have the child, we will be happy, I promise!"

She leaned into his embrace, held tightly, yet still felt a sense of loneliness. In the past, his embrace had given her a sense of security, but at some point, that feeling had disappeared.

Just like that, she lost this child, and perhaps her entire life would never be happy again.

Dorian Howards did not expect Kyle Kinston to come looking for him at this critical moment.

"Today should be the day of Mabel Quinn’s uncle’s surgery, right? Why are you here, instead of being with Mabel?" Dorian Howards asked, instructing his secretary to make a cup of coffee for Kyle Kinston.

"She wanted to rest well in the hospital ward," Kyle Kinston said, but he knew in his heart, it was just an excuse for her not to see him.

"How’s her uncle’s surgery?" Dorian Howards stopped probing and changed the subject upon seeing his friend’s expression.

"The surgery went well; it’s not a problem to keep him alive, but how much he can recover in the end depends on him." After all, Edward Quinn was already in his fifties. At this age, suffering such severe injuries, no one could guarantee a full recovery.

And so, silence fell again in Dorian Howards’ office.

Kyle Kinston sipped the coffee in front of him. Even though it was made quite well, he felt an unusual bitterness. Dorian Howards hesitated for a moment and said, "I heard from Alice that Mabel has agreed to terminate the pregnancy. How did you persuade her?"

"How did I persuade her?" Kyle Kinston placed down the coffee cup he was holding and gently rubbed his temples with his fingers, "I just told her that if she was willing to give up the child in her belly, then I would arrange the best doctor to save her uncle."

Dorian Howards was a bit surprised, not expecting Kyle would push Mabel to agree on this matter. After all, one was a living, loving uncle, and the other was an unborn child. Dorian Howards did not find it surprising that Mabel Quinn made such a choice.

And at this moment, just as surprised as Dorian Howards, was Alice Conley at the door of the executive’s office, listening through the slightly open door.

When she arrived, Catherine Willis had just come out of the office and was about to close the door. However, upon seeing Alice Conley, she left the door slightly ajar and approached Alice, "You’re here to see Director Howards, right? But Kyle just arrived and is having a meeting with Director Howards."

"I see. They must be discussing Mabel’s matters, I guess," Alice Conley speculated, dismissing Catherine. Knowing that today was the day of Mabel’s uncle’s surgery, she planned to first meet with Dorian Howards at the Corporation and then go visit her friend and Edward Quinn.

However, when she was about to push the door open, she suddenly heard her husband say the words — "Mabel has agreed to terminate the pregnancy. How did you persuade her?"
