Chapter 57: Battle of Boss Monsters

The princess raised her head to the sky which caused eyes widened in surprise as she saw the centipede floating in the sky momentarily, but a second later, the monster fell from the sky and onto the massive worm.

The centipede’s many pointed legs pierced into the worm’s body, causing the boss monster to let out a loud screech as it thrashed violently.

"It was able to pierce through the worm’s body with just its legs?!"

No matter how the worm struggled, it couldn’t escape as the centipede proceeded to spray acid out of its mouth towards the worm, which was lying helpless.

But at the same time, the worm produced another wind spell from its mouth, which clashed with the acid and ultimately reflected the liquid back at the centipede but it didn’t have any effect on the monster.

Driven by rage and madness, the storm increased in intensity, which caused several wind-slashing attacks to be directed at the centipede.

The centipede’s exoskeleton shifted strangely like a dark liquid and created blades all over its carapace.

These blades were able to break up the wind attacks easily since the attack was concentrated on a single point. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

The princess raised an eyebrow at this knowing exactly what the centipede intended but she never intended for such a strategy to come from a monster. It was as if it possessed intelligence.

The more she watched them, she realized that the worm was more aggressive, while the centipede seemed almost calculative.

Realizing this, she felt a shiver climb up her spine. No matter which creature lived, her homeland would still be in great danger.

This realization gave her the strength to climb to her feet and pick up her sword.

’I have to make sure that none of them survives, even if I have to give my own life in the process. It’s best to wait until one or both of them is severely injured or too distracted to defend itself.’

With that train of thought, she clutched her sword tightly and took a deep breath as she felt the strength of her magic coursing through her body and making its way to her sword.

Her eyes remained as keen as a hawk as she watched the battle unfold intently.

Blood poured out of the many wounds that were created on the worm’s body by the centipede’s many legs.

In the princess’s eyes, the worm now looked like the prey being hunted.

In retaliation, the massive worm threw its head back and spat out thick white mucus.

The thick mucus hit the centipede with pin-point accuracy and stuck onto its legs.

The worm then buried its head into the sand and disappeared underneath the soil, as if being swallowed up by the ground itself.

The battlefield fell silent, nothing but the raging of winds as the storm persisted.

The princess tried her best to locate the worm, but the ground didn’t so much as vibrate.

As for the centipede, the monster calmly sprayed acid over the mucus covering its body, causing it to melt and drip onto the ground.

The worm’s movements underground were almost undetectable since the monster used its earth affinity to shift the soil slowly as it moved.

Still with its numerous legs, the centipede was still able to track the monster and mana sight.

The moment the worm exploded from the ground, the centipede had already lifted itself off the ground in preparation.

Then, combining this mold skill with its earth control spell, the centipede hardened the ground by turning the sand into obsidian, making it difficult for the worm to dig beneath the soil.

As the worm burst through the ground, sharp obsidian shards pierced into its body causing the creature to look even more like a bloodied mess.

As the worm thrashed, suddenly the ground began to pop as if it was boiling.

’Lava? Impossible.’

The princess was in disbelief. It would be impossible for any of the creatures to use fire magic powerful enough to turn the ground into lava since when sand is heated to extreme temperatures it turns to glass. And to her knowledge fire magic was the only way to create magma by melting rocks.

The heat brought forth by the magma was so intense that it was almost suffocating. Even the worm was forced to back away.

At the same time, the centipede dove into the magma, swimming underground through the boiling liquid.

Panicked, the worm began to fire several wind-based attacks towards the magma, but it was to no effect.

Seeing this, the centipede began to plot its escape. With mana-reinforced skin, this magma wasn’t at a level where it could harm such a monster, as long as it didn’t stay inside it for long.

With that, the worm tried to escape, but just then, the centipede emerged from the magma and sunk its sharp forcipules deep inside the worm’s skin, pumping its venom into the monster.

The worm thrashed and tried to fight, but the centipede used its overwhelming strength to pin the monster down.

Its venom was enough to weaken the D-ranked boss monster and stopped the flow of mana through its body. Thought it wasn’t strong enough to kill the D ranked monster.

This brought the monster out of its berserk state, and it could no longer sustain the wind storm, which gradually faded.

Seeing how weakened the worm was, the centipede dug its sharp obsidian forciples into the beast’s stomach with lethal precision, as if dissecting the monster.

The worm twisted and thrashed, but no matter how it fought, it couldn’t get away.

The princess readied her sword to attack and lunged forward, but the moment she did, she felt something tug on her leg, causing her to fall flat on her stomach.

"What is this?"

Her face contorted in shock as she saw a sticky substance wrapped around her leg, sticking her to the ground.

She swung her sword to try and slice through the substance, but even her sword was caught in the mess.

At the same time, the centipede ripped out the glowing red monster core out of the worm before looking in her direction.

The two locked eyes, and at that moment, she came to a horrifying realization.

"He planned this!"

She frantically tried to free herself, fearing that she might be eaten but it seemed as if the more she fought, the more stuck she became.

She expected the monster to attack, but in the next second, the beast grabbed what remained of the worm’s corpse and dove down deep into the pool of lava.

The centipede continued to swim in the pool of magma until it was far away.

It swam underground, turning the sand into magma as it moved alone.

Soon, when it was finally at its destination, the centipede crawled out of the ground.

There he saw a group of five children sheltering in the moonlight, surrounded by a tall stone structure.
