Farm Tough Girl
Chapter 502 - 503: Boy-Girl Twins _1
The midwife was practically dragged here by the Hidden Guard, without even touching the ground, flying all the way over. In her whole life, the old woman had never flown, and this time she was so scared she nearly fainted. šš³š¦šš¤šš£šÆā“š·š¦š.ššš
Although Muniang had already made a reservation with her earlier, there was no need for such panic, it was just giving birth to a child, after all.
But that was what the midwife thought, Yu Ze thought differently. As soon as he saw the midwife arrive, he immediately said, "My Lady is about to give birth, come quickly."
Muniang had already been taken to a room prepared earlier for the delivery, and after the midwife examined her, she said nonchalantly, "Itās still early; weāll probably have to wait a while. Have the kitchen prepare some food to replenish her strength so she doesnāt run out of energy later."
Qingya listened carefully and hurriedly went to take care of it.
The midwife continued, "Set up the screen, and you, sir, wait outside, this place where women give birth is inauspicious."
Watching Muniangās complexion deteriorate, Yu Zeās eyes grew colder, "Whatās inauspicious about my Lady giving birth? Just do your job!"
The midwife, frightened, shuddered and hastily agreed, thinking to herself that this was for his benefit and yet he was scolding her.
However, this was the first time she had seen a man who didnāt care about the inauspiciousness. Usually, even if men were anxious about their wives, they would obediently wait outside, as the saying of inauspiciousness was not without basis.
Muniang was incredibly anxious on the inside, clutching Yu Zeās hand tightly, "Husband, will I die? Iāve heard of people dying in childbirth, I, I..."
Yu Zeās heart ached as he looked at her, "Didnāt we say it before? You are blessed with good fortune, and so is the child. Just be good, and you wonāt have any problems."
Indeed, Muniang has thought so before. At the time, she had been the one comforting Yu Ze. But now, facing the real situation and it being her first time, naturally, she was extremely nervous.
Yu Ze gently stroked Muniangās forehead over and over again, "Donāt worry, everything will be fine, I am here, okay?"
His words greatly reassured Muniang. She tightened her grip on Yu Zeās hand and nodded gently. Having him by her side was enough to put her at ease, and so she calmed down.
In the kitchen, a bowl of rice porridge was made, and Muniang, enduring the contractions, still ate it, fearing she would lack the strength to give birth later. The porridge was cooked with ginseng slices, naturally very nutritious. Muniang hoped that eating this bowl of porridge would give her the energy she needed.
She endured from morning until dusk, and finally, the midwife said, "Itās time, come on, push hard!"
With that, she had Muniang grab onto the ropes prepared earlier for leverage, and also folded a cloth for her to bite on.
Muniang braced against the immense pain and followed the midwifeās instructions, pushing with all her might.
Mrs. Lin was anxiously pacing outside; almost a whole day had passed without the child being bornāhow could she not be worried?
Yu Ze, holding a handkerchief, was wiping Muniangās sweat while speaking to keep her alert; seeing her in such pain was heartbreaking.
Finally, the cry of a newborn baby rang out, and the midwife hurriedly shouted, "One has come out, there is another one inside."
The little maid had prepared the woolen blankets and wrapped the child, taking over to let the midwife continue. With the first child out, the second one followed easier, and it wasnāt long before she saw the head.
"Almost there, come on, one, two, three, push!"
Muniang, clenching her teeth, pushed hard once again.
The midwife exclaimed joyfully, "Theyāre born, theyāre born! Both children are safe!"
Muniang felt utterly drained, collapsing powerlessly onto the bed. Sweat had soaked her collar, and her hair was in disarray, sticking to her pale face.
Yu Ze finally heaved a sigh of relief. He gently caressed her cheek with his large hand and smoothed her hair, whispering, "Itās all right now, itās all right. Letās not have any more children, shall we?"
The midwife felt deeply ignored and had to raise her voice again, "Congratulations to the master and Lady, itās a boy-girl twins!"
Tears still brimmed in Muniangās eyes as she puffed up her cheeks and hoarsely said, "I want to see the children."
Mrs. Lin had already rushed in, and at that moment, she was holding one baby, joyfully presenting it to Muniang, "Muniang, look, this is the girl."
Yu Ze took the other baby from another maid and scrutinized it, frowning, "Why is this face so ugly?"
The midwife had a moment of exasperationāthis proud new father was actually criticizing his own son!
"The baby has been in the amniotic fluid for a while, so its face is naturally wrinkled. It will be more good-looking after a few days. Both the master and Lady are so attractive, of course, the children they have are naturally good-looking as well," the midwife said, hoping to please.
Muniang glared at Yu Ze and said irritably, "How is it ugly? I think itās very good-looking. Quickly, bring this one over for me to see."
Yu Ze saw she still had the energy to scold him and figured she must not be very weak. He felt even more reassured.
He placed the baby beside Muniang, whose heart immediately swelled with joy, and a smile spread across her pale face, "My dear, these are our children."
While pregnant, she wasnāt without complaints, feeling burdened by her body, and during childbirth, she even had regrets, wishing she had never become pregnant due to the excruciating pain. But the moment she truly saw the two little lives, Muniangās heart melted, and she felt all the suffering was worth it.
The midwife smiled and said, "Lady is indeed blessed, giving birth to boy-girl twins, thatās an extremely good omen!"
Muniang smiled with satisfaction, "Really? Our children are born under such a good omen; they must be blessed with great fortune in the future."
Yu Ze smiled warmly, "Thatās right, our children, they must be the most fortunate in the world."
Muniang had exhausted quite a bit of energy giving birth, and by now, she was tired. Seeing the children were safe, she finally fell asleep contentedly.
The childbirth room was a mess and not fit for sleeping, so Yu Ze carried her back to the bedroom.
Mrs. Lin, looking at the two children, was overjoyed and insisted on going to the temple to give thanks, believing they were blessed by the Bodhisattva.
Small beds had been made for the children in advance and were placed next to Muniangās bed. It seemed as if out of sympathy for their motherās labor, they also slept soundly, without a hint of crying.
After sleeping for a while, Muniang regained some strength and looked at the two babies in the cradle, her heart filled with warmth.
"My dear, what shall we name our children? Have you thought of anything?" Muniang gently touched their little faces. She didnāt dare to stroke more, fearing she might break their delicate skin.
"What do you think they should be called?"
Muniang tilted her head, "I havenāt thought much about formal names, but I do have two nicknames in mind. I donāt know if they are any good."
"You are their mother, whatever name you give them, thatās what theyāll be called. If they have any complaints, thatāll be their concern when they grow up," Yu Ze laughed.
