Emma’s hand stopped just before touching the Void. Her baby brother’s warning echoed in her mind, but something else was happening that made everyone freeze.

The sound of screaming came from far away.

Human screaming.

"What’s that noise?" Lily asked, her head turning toward the edge of the forest.

Through the trees, they could see lights flashing in the distance. Not magical lights - car lights, street lights, the glow of human cities.

"Oh no," whispered the ancient vampire. "The barrier between our world and theirs is breaking."

Elara’s golden power flickered as she realized what was happening. "All this magic, all these creatures in one place - we’re tearing holes in reality."

Suddenly, a terrified human woman came running through the trees. She was holding a small boy who couldn’t stop crying.

"Please help us!" she sobbed. "There are monsters everywhere! Flying things with fangs, and people who turn into wolves!"

The boy pointed a shaking finger at Ronan. "That man has scary eyes!"

Ronan quickly looked away, his wolf trying to hide. But it was too late.

More humans were coming through the forest. Families running from their homes, children clutching stuffed animals, elderly people who could barely walk fast enough to escape what they’d seen.

"This is bad," Darian said, his mind racing. "If humans see us like this-"

"They’ll think we’re the monsters," Kael finished.

Emma looked around at all the supernatural creatures who had come to help. The vampires’ fangs were showing, the witches were still floating on their broomsticks, and the fairies left trails of sparkling magic wherever they flew.

To scared humans, they must look like nightmares come to life.

"We have to choose," Emma said, her voice small but determined. "Save our family from the Void, or protect the humans who are seeing us."

"Why can’t we do both?" baby Marcus asked. The Devourer’s evil was still fighting inside him, but his real voice was getting stronger.

"Because," said Shadow Emma with a cruel smile, "you can’t be in two places at once. While you’re helping humans, the Void will finish eating this dimension. While you fight the Void, humans will see things that will change their world forever."

The human woman with the crying boy stepped closer to Elara. "Are you... are you one of them?"

Elara’s golden glow was impossible to hide. She looked like a goddess made of light.

"I’m a mother," Elara said gently. "Just like you."

"But you’re not human," the woman whispered.

"No. I’m not."

The little boy stopped crying and stared at Emma. "Are you magic too?"

Emma nodded. "Yes. But I’m also scared, just like you."

"You’re scared?" the boy asked. "But you have superpowers."

"Having power doesn’t mean you’re not afraid," Emma explained. "It just means you have to be brave anyway."

More humans were arriving. Some were screaming, some were taking pictures with their phones, and some were just standing in shock.

A teenage human girl pointed at the Void. "What is that black thing? It’s eating the trees!"

"It’s trying to eat everything," Jake said honestly. "Including you."

"We’re going to stop it," Lily added quickly, seeing the girl’s face go pale.

But the ancient vampire shook his head. "The human world is seeing us now. There’s no going back. Everything changes after this."

A news helicopter appeared overhead, its bright lights shining down on the supernatural army.

"We’re on live TV," a witch said, pointing up at the aircraft.

Kael grabbed Elara’s hand. "The whole human world is about to learn that werewolves, vampires, and magic are real."

"Is that bad?" the human boy asked Emma.

Emma thought about it. Her whole life, supernatural creatures had hidden from humans because they were afraid. Afraid of being hunted, afraid of being misunderstood, afraid of starting wars.

But maybe hiding was what made everything worse.

"I don’t know," Emma said to the boy. "But I think secrets hurt more than truth does."

The Void pulsed again, getting bigger. It was now large enough that the news helicopter could see it clearly.

"Folks, we’re getting reports of some kind of supernatural event," came the voice of a news reporter through a radio one of the humans was carrying. "We’re seeing what appears to be vampires, werewolves, and other creatures fighting some kind of dark energy. This is not a movie or special effects. This appears to be real."

Shadow Kael laughed. "Perfect. Now the human governments will come with their armies and weapons. They’ll try to capture or kill every supernatural creature they can find."

"Not if we protect each other," Elara said firmly.

The human woman looked at her. "You would protect us? Even though we’re not like you?"

"Being different doesn’t make you enemies," Elara replied. "Being scared of differences makes enemies."

But then something happened that made everyone’s blood run cold.

The radio crackled again. "We’re getting reports that similar events are happening in cities around the world. London, Tokyo, New York - supernatural creatures are appearing everywhere. The military is being called in."

"It’s not just here," Darian said, his face going white. "The barrier between worlds is breaking everywhere."

Emma felt sick. This was her fault. Her power had been so strong that it didn’t just affect their forest - it had affected the whole planet.

"Every supernatural creature on Earth is being exposed right now," the purple-haired witch said, her voice full of fear.

The human boy tugged on Emma’s dress. "Are the scary people going to hurt the magic people?"

Emma looked at him, then at her family, then at all the creatures who had come to help them.

She thought about humans with guns and tanks, hunting down vampires and werewolves. She thought about supernatural creatures who might fight back and hurt innocent people. She thought about a war that could destroy both worlds.

And she thought about the Void, still growing bigger while everyone was distracted.

"I have to fix this," Emma said. "All of it."

"Emma, no," Elara said, reading her daughter’s mind. "You can’t save everyone."

But Emma was already reaching toward the Void again.

"What if I don’t have to choose?" she said. "What if I can use the Void to fix what I broke?"

"That’s impossible," Shadow Darian hissed.

Emma smiled, and for the first time, she looked exactly like her mother. "Everything we’ve done today was supposed to be impossible."

She touched the Void.

The moment her finger made contact, everything went silent. The screaming stopped. The helicopter stopped making noise. Even the wind stopped blowing.

Then Emma’s voice echoed across dimensions:

"I call on every supernatural creature on Earth. And I call on every human who wants peace instead of war. Come to me. Now."

The golden light that had been flowing from Elara suddenly burst from Emma instead, shooting up into the sky like a beacon that could be seen from space.

And in cities around the world, both humans and supernatural creatures felt the call.

They started walking, flying, and running toward the light.

All of them.

But as Emma held onto the Void, she felt something terrifying.

It wasn’t just hungry.

It was learning.

And it had just learned how to use her power.

"Emma!" Marcus screamed as the Devourer fought to take control of him again. "It’s not trying to eat the world anymore! It’s trying to become you!"
