Fated Mate to the Triplet Alpha
Chapter 196 - 212: Emma’s Greatest Student
The ground beneath Emma’s feet cracked as a massive explosion of light shot from the school cafeteria.
"Everyone get back!" Emma shouted, running toward the building while her reformed enemies and family followed close behind.
Through the shattered windows, Emma could see tables floating in the air, spinning wildly. The lunch trays were melting into silver puddles, and the walls were changing colors like a rainbow gone crazy.
"Mrs. Emma!" Tommy screamed from outside. "There’s a new kid in there, and she’s really scared!"
Emma burst through the cafeteria doors and stopped cold. In the center of the chaos sat a girl who looked about ten years old. Her hair was white as snow, and her eyes glowed with the same silver light that had once come from Emma’s own hands.
The girl was crying, and every tear that hit the floor made the building shake.
"Hey there," Emma said softly, walking slowly toward the child. "What’s your name?"
"Riley," the girl whispered. "I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to break everything! They brought me here and said you could help, but I can’t stop it!"
Emma’s heart broke. She remembered feeling exactly the same way when her powers first appeared. Scared, alone, and dangerous to everyone around her.
"Riley, look at me," Emma said, kneeling down. "I know exactly how you feel. The same thing happened to me when I was young."
"Really?" Riley’s glowing eyes met Emma’s. "You made things explode too?"
"Oh yes," Emma smiled. "I once accidentally turned my entire bedroom into chocolate pudding."
Despite her tears, Riley giggled. As she laughed, the floating furniture gently settled back to the floor.
"See?" Emma said. "Your emotions control your power. When you feel better, your magic gets calmer."
"But what if I hurt someone?" Riley asked. "What if I’m too dangerous to be around people?"
Before Emma could answer, the golden sky outside suddenly turned black. Through the broken windows, Emma could see figures in white robes floating down from the dark clouds.
"The new Cosmic Council," Marcus said grimly, appearing in the doorway. "They’re here."
Emma felt Riley’s power spike with fear. The cafeteria walls started melting again.
"Riley, I need you to listen very carefully," Emma said urgently. "Those people outside think children like us are too dangerous to live free. They want to lock you away forever."
"What?" Riley’s eyes went wide with terror. "But I just want to go home to my mom!"
"I know, sweetheart. And I’m going to make sure you get there safely. But right now, I need you to be brave."
The lead Council member’s voice boomed across the playground. "Emma Blackwood! Surrender the cosmic-level child immediately!"
Emma stood up, placing herself between Riley and the windows. "Never."
"Mrs. Emma," Riley whispered. "Maybe I should just go with them. I don’t want anyone to get hurt because of me."
Emma knelt down again, taking Riley’s small hands in hers. "Listen to me. When I was your age, I thought the same thing. I believed I was too dangerous to be around my family. I almost let people convince me to give up my freedom."
"What changed your mind?"
"I learned that being powerful doesn’t make you bad. It’s what you choose to do with that power that matters. And right now, I’m choosing to protect you."
Outside, Emma could hear the Devourer and the other reformed enemies taking defensive positions. The sound of cosmic energy clashing filled the air.
"But what if they’re right?" Riley asked. "What if I really am too dangerous?"
Emma smiled sadly. "I used to ask myself that same question every day. But you know what I learned? The most dangerous people are the ones who don’t care about hurting others. You care, Riley. That’s what makes you safe to be around."
Suddenly, the cafeteria door exploded inward. Three Council members in flowing white robes stepped through the smoke.
"Child," the tallest one said to Riley. "Come with us now. We will teach you to control your abilities properly."
"By locking her in a cosmic prison?" Emma snapped, standing up. "I don’t think so."
"You are in no position to refuse, Emma Blackwood," the Council member replied coldly. "This child’s power level exceeds even yours at her age. She could accidentally destroy entire planets."
Riley started crying again, and the floor beneath them began cracking.
"See?" the Council member pointed. "She cannot be allowed to roam free."
Emma felt a familiar anger building in her chest. This was exactly what she’d faced years ago - people who wanted to control her because they feared her power.
But then she looked at Riley’s terrified face and made a different choice than she might have in the past.
"Riley," Emma said calmly. "Do you trust me?"
The girl nodded.
"Then hold my hand, and let’s show them what controlled power really looks like."
Emma gently took Riley’s hand, and something amazing happened. Instead of Emma’s power overwhelming the child’s, or Riley’s power overwhelming Emma’s, their abilities merged perfectly.
The cracked floor repaired itself. The melted lunch trays reformed into perfect silver circles. Even the broken windows fixed themselves, all without any violent explosions or dangerous energy surges.
The Council members stepped back in shock.
"Impossible," one whispered. "No one can merge cosmic-level abilities safely."
Emma smiled. "You can when you’re not afraid. Riley, do you see what just happened?"
"We fixed everything instead of breaking it," Riley said in wonder.
"Exactly. Your power isn’t scary when you have someone who understands to help guide you."
The lead Council member’s eyes narrowed. "This changes nothing. The child still represents a cosmic threat."
"Actually," said a new voice that made everyone freeze, "it changes everything."
Emma turned to see a figure she’d never seen before - someone wearing robes that seemed to be made of starlight itself.
"I am the Original Council Elder," the figure announced. "The one who founded the Cosmic Council eons ago. And I have been watching this school with great interest."
The three younger Council members immediately bowed.
"Elder," their leader stammered. "We were just following protocol—"
"No," the Elder interrupted. "You were following fear. And fear is never a good foundation for justice."
The Elder walked over to Emma and Riley, who were still holding hands.
"Child," the Elder said to Riley. "What do you want most in the world?"
"To go home to my mom," Riley answered without hesitation. "And maybe to come back here sometimes to learn from Mrs. Emma."
"And Emma Blackwood," the Elder continued. "What do you want for this child?"
"For her to be safe, happy, and free to choose her own path," Emma replied.
The Elder nodded slowly. "Then it is decided. This school will become the official training ground for young cosmic-powered beings. And Emma Blackwood will be appointed as the first Director of Cosmic Education."
The younger Council members looked stunned.
"But Elder," one protested. "She’s not even properly trained herself!"
"Neither were any of us when we started," the Elder replied. "But she has something we lost long ago - the wisdom to teach through understanding rather than fear."
Emma felt overwhelmed. "I don’t know if I’m qualified—"
"Mrs. Emma," Riley interrupted. "You helped me control my power in five minutes. The Council people wanted to lock me up forever. I think you’re plenty qualified."
The Elder smiled. "Out of the mouths of babes."
Suddenly, Marcus came running into the cafeteria, his face pale with worry.
"Emma!" he called urgently. "We have a problem. A big one."
"What now?" Emma asked, though she wasn’t sure she wanted to know.
"Luna’s cosmic guardian abilities are growing stronger, but something’s wrong. She’s starting to merge with the cosmic energy permanently. If we can’t stop it, she’ll disappear from our dimension entirely."
Emma felt her world tilt. Just when everything seemed to be working out, her daughter was in mortal danger.
Riley squeezed Emma’s hand. "Mrs. Emma, can I help save Luna? My power feels really strong when I’m holding your hand."
Emma looked at the small girl who had become her first official student, then at the cosmic authorities who had just offered her an impossible job, then at Marcus who was waiting for her to somehow save their daughter.
"Riley," Emma said quietly. "Are you ready for the most important lesson I can teach you?"
The girl nodded bravely.
"Sometimes being powerful means making the hardest choice of all - risking everything to save someone you love."
As they prepared to race toward whatever was happening to Luna, Emma realized that teaching Riley had shown her something incredible about herself.
She wasn’t the scared girl who had once been afraid of her own abilities.
She was Emma Blackwood, protector of cosmic children and defender of the impossible.
And she was about to prove it.
