Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 100: Is There Something Hard To Say?
Janice knew that Christopher would certainly not go on a blind date, but it was true they knew each other from one.
She couldn’t tell Denise that she had mistaken him for someone else. How embarrassing it would be if she said that out loud.
Thinking of this, she said, "It was a fateful coincidence." Yes, it was very appropriate to describe it as a coincidence.
Although Denise still found it a little unbelievable, since Janice had said so, it must have happened.
It seemed that after three years, Chris had changed.
At least his taste in women had changed.
She glanced at Janice sitting opposite her. "Does... does his father know about your marriage?"
Hearing this topic, Janice was silent. She was unwilling to discuss it.
After all, it hadn’t been long since the incident with her credentials.
Seeing that she didn’t reply, Denise couldn’t help asking, "So, his father didn’t know?"
Janice pursed her lips. "Director Kelshore, can we not talk about this?" Janice wanted to end this topic.
Denise stared at her reaction and understood something.
<So the chairman didn’t know about the marriage between Christopher and Janice? But that doesn’t make sense.
With that man’s methods, how could he not find out?
But if he already knew, how could he allow such a thing to happen?
Based on what I know about him, he would definitely have taken action.
But it’s obvious that Janice hasn’t been harmed.>
Denise felt increasingly puzzled. It seemed that she had to make a trip back to the Batemans.
In the evening, Denise drove over to the Batemans’ house.
This was also the first time Denise came after the last unhappy dinner.
She walked in, and Uncle Charlie came up to her.
"Uncle Charlie, is the Chairman here?"
Uncle Charlie looked in the direction of the study.
"Sir is in the study."
Denise nodded and was about to walk over when she thought of something. She stopped and asked, "By the way, Uncle Charlie, I remember Joey and Sophie are both in Switzerland."
Upon hearing Denise’s words, Uncle Charlie was stunned for a moment and he replied evasively. "I’m not too sure about Miss Sophie’s whereabouts."
Denise was smart. Since Uncle Charlie didn’t want to reveal more, she didn’t ask further. She turned around and walked into the study.
In the study, Nathan was reading. In his hands was a heavy hardback book.
Denise walked to the door and knocked on it.
"Come in."
Without looking up, he continued to wave the brush in his hand.
"Mr. Bateman."
Hearing Denise’s voice, Nathan stopped reading and looked up. "Denise, you’ve come."
Denise said, "Have I disturbed you?"
Nathan placed the heavy tome down on the desk.
"Sit down if you have something to say."
Only then did Denise sit down opposite him. She thought of the question she was about to ask and she felt a little uneasy.
"What’s wrong? Is there anything hard you want to say?"
Nathan seemed to have seen through her.
Denise hurriedly said, "It’s nothing big. I just heard something about Chris outside. I don’t know if it’s true, so I want to ask you for confirmation."
Nathan raised his eyebrows and looked at her. "What do you want to ask? Just say it."
Denise paused. "I heard Chris is married now. Did you know about that?"
...
Denise asked her question carefully.
Nathan had been drinking some tea, but when he heard Denise’s question, his hand paused.
"You already know."
He put the tea cup down indifferently.
Denise was stunned. It turned out that he really knew about it.
But she didn’t understand why he hadn’t taken action.
After all, three years ago, when he learned that she was in a relationship with Christopher, Nathan had been ruthless and fired her from the company. But three years later, in the case of Janice Gladwell, who wasn’t at all worthy of Christopher, Nathan didn’t make any move.
Denise was both shocked and unhappy.
"So, you came here today to ask about this?" It seemed that he had guessed her thoughts.
Denise didn’t deny and admitted it directly.
"That’s right."
There was already some resentment in her heart.
Nathan seemed to have heard the unhappiness in her voice. He said, "What’s wrong? Do you think I was unfair to you?"
Denise didn’t want to lie, so she kept quiet, which was a tacit admission. Nathan said, "Your situation was different."
Denise was confused. "I don’t understand. What’s the difference between us? It can even be said that she is not as good a match as me."
Denise was unwilling to give up.
Nathan picked up his teacup before he said slowly. "But you didn’t get Christopher to register your marriage."
"This..."
Denise had nothing to say.
Indeed, she hadn’t been able to make Christopher marry her.
"But, I don’t understand what’s the difference?" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Denise persisted in asking.
"Of course there is a difference. Christopher was willing to give her a legitimate identity. With this alone, I can’t underestimate her," Nathan explained.
Denise seemed to be able to understand the deeper meaning behind this, but she still felt upset.
"You don’t have to be upset. Although they’re married, they don’t have deep feelings for each other. You still have a chance." As Nathan spoke, he looked up at Denise.
Denise found it hard to believe. "Are you saying that you want me to be the third party to ruin their marriage?"
Nathan said, "You can also consider it as saving them. If you think they are a good match, or if you are willing to give up, you can pretend that you didn’t hear anything."
After saying that, he leaned against the back of his chair and slowly closed his eyes.
Usually, this meant that he was sending the guest off.
Although Denise still had many questions to ask, she had no choice but to stand up when she saw Nathan close his eyes.
But she suddenly thought of something and asked, "So, is this why you invited me back to the company?"
Nathan didn’t open his eyes. "The right person gets the best chance. You should understand that."
That’s right. If she returned to the company, she would have more contact with Christopher.
Denise didn’t know what kind of mood she should be in right now. She turned around and walked out.
When Denise left, Nathan opened his eyes, and he pressed down on the bell beside him.
Soon, Uncle Charlie pushed the door open and came in. "Sir."
Nathan ordered, "Ask Sophie when she will be back."
"Yes."
Uncle Charlie turned and left.
Ever since she left the Batemans’ house, Denise felt indignant.
Why did she and Janice have different fates when they were in the exact same situation?
Although her family was middle class, in terms of sheer ability or competency, she was certainly superior than Janice Gladwell. She was certain of it.
However, Christopher chose to marry Janice instead.
...
So, was the three years she had toiled abroad in vain?
Denise thought that as long as she was excellent enough, she would be qualified to stand by his side. However, she didn’t expect that even though Nathan had recognized her capabilities, it was still a step too late.
Was she really going to be a third party who ruined other people’s marriage?
Denise hesitated.
"Janice. Don’t forget that the doctor’s appointment is at 10 o’clock this morning."
Janice woke up and saw a WhatsApp message from Yvonne.
She sat up from the bed and looked at the time. It was almost eight o’clock. She got up to wash up and went downstairs, but she didn’t see Christopher. It was strange that he was gone.
Janice walked around downstairs and saw that there was already breakfast prepared for her. She picked up her phone and called Christopher.
However, she heard his phone ringing at the door. She walked over, only to see Christopher coming in.
He was wearing sportswear, and the hair on his forehead was wet. It seemed that he had just came back from exercise.
She put away her phone and walked over.
"Did you go running?"
Christopher nodded.
Janice said, "Why didn’t you ask me along?"
Christopher said, "You slept so soundly, so I didn’t wake you up. What’s wrong? Do you want to do morning jogs too?"
Janice nodded. She had gained quite a lot of weight recently. She didn’t look good on camera and was just thinking about losing weight.
Christopher said, "Then I’ll call you tomorrow morning."
He walked inside, followed by Janice.
"Then it’s settled. You must wake me up tomorrow morning."
Christopher nodded. Seeing that the breakfast hadn’t been touched yet, he frowned. "Eat first. I’m going to take a shower."
Janice nodded, but she thought of something and said, "I’m not going to the TV station in the morning. You don’t have to hurry."
Christopher was surprised. "What’s wrong? You don’t work today?"
Janice’s eyes flickered. "No, I have something else to do."
Christopher didn’t continue to ask and turned to go upstairs.
After breakfast, Janice went back to her bedroom. After she changed her clothes, she went downstairs and was about to go out, only to find Christopher sitting on the sofa and leisurely reading the newspaper.
She was confused. "Why didn’t you go to work?"
Christopher looked up and said, "I’m waiting for you."
Janice paused. "Didn’t I say that I wouldn’t go to the TV station this morning?"
Christopher put down the newspaper.
"But you’re going somewhere else."
Janice touched her forehead. She had wanted to wait for Christopher to leave before she quietly went to the hospital.
She said, "I can drive. Besides, didn’t you buy me a car?"
Christopher said, "Did you forget, an accident happened the first time you drove that car."
Janice said in her heart that it had been a long time, and it was an accident.
She frowned. "My driving skills are not as bad as you think. It’s already past nine o’clock. You should go to the company."
"You really don’t need my escort and protection?"
Christopher asked worriedly.
Janice did not what to say. It seemed that he had become addicted to driving her around.
She said, "I really don’t need it."
Christopher raised an eyebrow. "Then I’ll be leaving alone."
Janice nodded.
She wanted him to leave right away. After all, she would be late if he didn’t leave soon.
Suddenly her phone rang. It was Yvonne calling. She glanced at Christopher, who had just walked out of the door, and picked it up.
"Yvonne. I’ll be right there. Please help me tell the doctor."
Janice hung up the phone and hurried out.
When she arrived at the hospital, Yvonne was anxiously waiting outside the door.
