Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 61: Janice Gladwell, Don’t Even Think About It
"What did you say?" Janice was stunned.
"You know what I’m saying." Christopher snorted coldly.
Janice looked at him in disbelief. "Christopher, I want a divorce because we were wrong to be together. It’s the right thing to do to correct our mistakes now."
"You’re cooking up this excuse to lie to yourself. You want a divorce because you can’t forget your ex-boyfriend."
Janice was stunned. She looked at Christopher incredulously.
It turned out that he had already known about her relationship with Benjamin. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"You investigated me!"
An inexplicable anger rose from her chest.
Christopher didn’t try to hide anything. "That’s right."
"Very well!" Janice gritted her teeth. As a reporter, she knew that privacy was a form of respect, but he invaded her privacy.
"You think just because you are rich, you can easily look into others. Since that’s the case, we’ve nothing more to say. This marriage is over."
Janice stood up with her bag and walked out of the door. Christopher was stunned for a moment before chasing after her. "Make yourself clear."
"What’s there to say? Get your documents and I’ll see you at the gate of the Civil Affairs Bureau at 2 P.M.."
After that, Janice shook off his hand and ran off.
Christopher stared at her leaving but didn’t chase again. Instead, he said in a deep voice, "Janice Gladwell, don’t even think about it!"
After leaving the cafe, Janice did not return to the TV station. Instead, she drove to the city square alone.
Because it was already mid-morning, there were few people in the square.
She casually found a corner and sat down.
She couldn’t control her anger when she thought of how she had been fooled by Christopher for more than a month.
Why was she so stupid? After all, she was a reporter who relied on her sense of perception to make a living. How could she not have seen through him?
With his temperament and knowledge, how could he be poor? She was just too slow witted to figure it out. "Too dumb!"
Janice whacked the side of her head repeatedly. She had long forgotten that this was the square.
Although there were few people at this time, there were still a few pedestrians passing by and she got many curious looks.
"Miss, what’s wrong?"
Suddenly, an old and powerful voice came from above her head.
Janice slowly raised her head. In her blurry vision, an old man with silver-white hair appeared.
She was stunned but soon recognized that it was the old man she met here the last time.
Janice quickly wiped away her tears and said in a choked up voice, "Oh It’s you, sir. Why are you here today?"
The old man looked at her red and swollen eyes and said, "My family is busy and they’ve no time for me."
As he spoke, he sat down beside her.
"Dear girl, you’re crying so sadly. What’s wrong? Tell me what happened."
The old man asked kindly.
However, Janice was silent. She didn’t like to share her worries, not to mention that it was too embarrassing.
However, thinking that the old man didn’t know her anyway, she simply asked. "Grandpa, do you have any experience of being cheated?"
"Well ..." The old man thought about it and confidently shook his head. "No, I don’t think so. What’s wrong? Have you been bullied?"
"I wasn’t bullied. I just feel that I’ve been deceived by someone I trust," Janice said sadly.
The old man frowned. "What did he lie to you about?"
"He..."
All of a sudden, Janice couldn’t say anything.
That’s right. What had Christopher lied about?
...
Did he cheat her out of her money? No.
Although she had given Christopher money, he always paid it back to her in some way. On the other hand, it seemed she had spent a lot of his money.
Did he take sexual advantage of her?
But they had never done more than just kissing.
Kissing wasn’t taking advantage.
So, what wrong did he do?
"Dear girl, why aren’t you speaking?" the old man asked.
Janice thought for a moment and asked, "Grandpa, cheating my feelings, does it count?"
Yes, he cheated her feelings.
"He doesn’t love you?" The old man asked.
Janice shook her head. She didn’t know whether Christopher loved her.
"I don’t know."
The old man asked, "Do you love him very much?"
Janice was stunned. It seemed that she had never thought about this question.
She didn’t know whether she loved Christopher. She only knew that she liked the feeling of being with him. It was very warm, just like the winter sun.
But was that love?
She didn’t know.
Seeing that she did not speak, the old man smiled and said, "Dear girl, there is nothing to lie about love. If you want to know, you can ask him and then you will know."
Janice didn’t say anything. She thought that she probably lost the chance to ask Christopher.
After all, they were going to divorce in the afternoon.
She said, "Grandpa, let’s not talk about me. The weather is so hot that it’s easy to get heatstroke. Why don’t I send you home?"
The old man looked at her and nodded. It was exactly what he wanted.
Janice helped the old man into her car. As soon as she returned to the driver’s seat and fastened her seat belt, the old man’s phone rang.
No one knew what the call was about, but the old man only replied, "No need." After hanging up the phone, Janice looked over.
The old man said, "My family said they would pick me up. Since you’re giving me a ride, I told them not to come."
Janice nodded and drove the car out.
It was not until they drove to a row of villas on the edge of the city that Janice asked in surprise.
"Sir, your home is too far away from that square. You should find a nearer place in the future."
There was a trace of unnaturalness on the old man’s face as he answered. "It’s okay. I just want to take advantage of the fact that I can still walk so I want to go further."
He wouldn’t tell her that he went there on purpose in order to meet her.
Janice did not respond further. On arrival, she helped the old man out of the car and said, "Then I’ll be going. If you want to go out in the future, let your family accompany you."
The old man nodded.
"By the way, dear girl, leave me your phone number."
Janice was stunned for a moment, but she didn’t think too much about it. She said, "Please call me Janice, and please take my business card."
With this, she took out her business card and handed it to him.
The old man held it in his hand and was very happy.
After watching the car leave, the old man looked at the business card and murmured, "Janice Gladwell, that’s a good name."
"Sir, why did you come back alone? Don’t do this again. I was so worried when I couldn’t find you in the square."
Just as the old man was about to walk into the house, the driver, Andy, rushed over from the car.
The old man silently said in his heart that there would be no next time. He got her phone number, so there was no reason to go again.
However, how could he tell others what he was thinking?
"Andy, call my grandson and ask him to come back for dinner tomorrow."
"Mr. Bateman, old Mr. Allson wants you to go home for dinner."
In the office, Christopher sat there silent. He gave off a don’t-mess-with me vibe.
Rob knew that Mr. Bateman had returned today cold and intimidating, something must have happened.
...
If old Mr. Allson hadn’t called, Rob wouldn’t have dared to come into this ice cave.
Rob saw that Christopher didn’t say a word, so he mustered up his courage to remind him, "Mr. Bateman?"
Christopher then looked at Rob with frigid eyes.
"Tell everyone who is looking for me that I’m not here."
"Yes."
In the afternoon, Janice stood at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau. She waited for a long time without seeing Christopher.
She was a little depressed. "Didn’t we agree?"
She called him, but his phone was turned off.
Janice thought for a while and went straight to Techno Tower.
When she stepped in, she had mixed feelings.
The last time she was here, she had stayed here like a fool for a long time to interview Christopher Bateman.
Now, she was going there to ask for a divorce from Christopher Bateman.
Even she found such a change of events absurd.
She walked to the reception and said, "I want to see Christopher Bateman. Please tell me which floor he’s on."
As soon as the receptionist saw Janice, she recognized her. However, she remembered Rob’s instructions and said cautiously, "I’m sorry, Mr. Bateman is not here."
"Not here?"
Janice was stunned. Could it be that he was hiding from her on purpose?
She said, "Then I’ll wait here."
So she walked to the sofa in the reception area.
The receptionist had to call Rob secretly when she saw Janice’s intention.
In the conference room.
Rob heard that Janice was here, he hesitated for a moment before he whispered to Christopher, who was listening to a senior executive’s presentation.
"Mr. Bateman, Ms. Gladwell is here."
Christopher heard Rob but he was not surprised. He had already guessed Janice
would come looking for him if he didn’t show.
He said, "I’m not here."
Rob replied, "Yes, but Ms. Gladwell refused to leave. She’s waiting downstairs."
A hint of hesitation flashed across Christopher’s face. "Bring her up."
Rob was startled. Wasn’t he going to be exposed then?
However, Rob didn’t dare to ask what Mr. Bateman was thinking, so he did as he was told.
In the reception area, Rob came to receive Janice in person.
"Miss Gladwell, Mr. Bateman would like to see you."
When Janice saw Rob, she realized that Rob was not a friend of Christopher’s, but a subordinate.
Was he colluding with everyone around him to deceive her?
Janice was furious again, she gave Rob some dirty glances but she got up and walked to the elevator.
Rob found it strange. Usually, Ms. Gladwell would smile when she saw him, but why was her attitude completely different today?
Did something really happen?
Since Christopher was still in the meeting room, Rob could only bring Janice to his office.
"Miss Gladwell, please wait a moment. Mr. Bateman will come over after the meeting."
After saying that, Rob turned around and went out, ordering Cecilia Oden to bring in a drink.
Cecilia brought in a cup of coffee. When she saw Janice standing in the office, she couldn’t help but be curious.
Who was this woman?
After all, Mr. Bateman never received guests in his office.
However, Cecilia was just a secretary. She didn’t dare to ask questions, so after putting the coffee down she left the room.
Janice waited in the office for a long time, but Christopher didn’t come in. She started to look around.
To her surprise, she found that this office was really luxurious.
