From Trash to Treasure: The Sinclair Family's Beloved Genius
Chapter 269: Scam
A jolt went through Joel Quincy’s heart.
A terrible thought occurred to him.
’For that research institute in Meridia to hold a press conference at a time like this... could it be...’
Joel Quincy’s mind raced, and he couldn’t help but frown. He asked in a grim voice, "Chloe, what are you getting at?"
Chloe Sinclair chuckled. "Professor, I said before that the Mark Device could be modified, but we all know full well—is there really any room for modification?"
The researchers in the lab who participated in modifying the Mark Device knew that the so-called "modification" was practically a complete reassembly. Even the core chip had been swapped out.
"That research lab in Meridia has only been working on controllable nuclear fusion for a single year. And how long have you been at it? Ten years! A full ten years!"
On the other end of the line, Chloe Sinclair’s voice was firm, her tone growing increasingly serious. "For a lab that was established just over a year ago to publicly announce they’ve completed research on controllable nuclear fusion—isn’t that suspicious?"
Joel Quincy was silent for a long time.
Chloe Sinclair’s words filled him with shock and suspicion.
The young woman had been deliberately vague about some things, but Joel Quincy understood perfectly, as if looking into a clear mirror.
After a moment of thought, he said, "Come to the university right now. I’ve already contacted the reporters."
"At eight o’clock tonight, we’re holding a press conference!"
This was a fraud they had to stop.
Hearing this, Chloe Sinclair felt a wave of relief. "I’ll be right there."
It takes a long time to set up for a press conference.
Chloe Sinclair arrived at the university auditorium an hour later.
When Chloe Sinclair arrived, she was dressed in a black suit. A strand of black hair rested against her ear, her red lips were luscious and vibrant, and her skin was as clear and fair as jade.
As soon as Chloe Sinclair appeared, all eyes turned to follow her.
She was like a natural protagonist; wherever she went, the spotlight followed.
"Professor."
The moment she entered, Chloe Sinclair saw Joel Quincy standing on the stage and gave him a wave.
As she drew closer, she saw Nathan Trenton standing beside him.
Nathan Trenton was dressed very formally today. As his gaze fell on Chloe Sinclair, he adopted a pitiful tone. "Sigh. You only have eyes for the professor. You didn’t even see me, your senior."
Chloe Sinclair’s expression turned awkward, and she felt a pang of guilt.
She really hadn’t noticed Nathan Trenton just now.
It wasn’t because Nathan Trenton lacked presence or was easily overlooked.
Rather, it was because Nathan Trenton was wearing a formal black suit today, his hair meticulously combed back, making him look completely different from his usual self.
If she hadn’t heard his familiar voice, Chloe Sinclair wouldn’t have believed the man in front of her was actually Nathan Trenton.
Seeing the look on Chloe Sinclair’s face, Nathan Trenton looked down and laughed heartily. "Alright, relax. I was just teasing you."
Hearing this, Chloe Sinclair looked up in confusion, as if asking what he meant by that.
Nathan Trenton gave his professor an enigmatic look but said nothing.
Instead, it was Joel Quincy who explained gruffly, "I didn’t recognize him at first either."
The Nathan Trenton of the past was like the friendly guy next door, but today, his presence was so powerful it could rival even Jasper Shaw’s.
So, Chloe Sinclair smiled and praised him sincerely, "You look really handsome today."
Nathan Trenton’s eyebrow twitched. He teased, "So I wasn’t handsome before?"
"I wouldn’t call you ’handsome’ before. The word for you was ’gentle.’"
After all, Nathan Trenton had been voted one of the "Top Ten Heartthrobs of Emberfall University" by the entire student body.
Nathan Trenton was in a great mood. He couldn’t resist poking Chloe Sinclair’s forehead. "You’re such a sweet-talker. You always know just the right thing to say."
