Chapter 192: Chapter 53 – The Harp of Dagda 1

Matthew spent the night on the internet learning all he could about Dagda.

Learning that Douglas was a murderer cleaned his head of any regret for what he did. Now he could concentrate on finding the harp.

He learned that Dagda was pronounced dada. He learned he was the king or lord of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the tribe of Danu, although there wasn’t much info on who Danu was. Also called the tribe of the gods for the ancient Irish, they were constantly in war against an evil tribe called Fomorians, made up of monsters.

Dagda himself was a brave warrior, a wise leader and a powerful druid. The staff he saw his statue holding had the power to heal on one end and kill on the other, represented on the artwork by the flowers and the skull.

But what Matthew was really interested to know was about his harp, Uaithne.

According to the legend, Dagda used the harp to raise the morale of his soldiers and give them impressive power. Because of that, the Fomorians once stole his harp. Dagda took a group of men with him and went to the castle where they were holding it from him. Dagda then called upon the harp’s name that flew towards him killing 9 Fomorians in its path.

The rest of the Fomorian army rushed to take the harp back, but then Dagda played a song in the harp which brought his enemies to tears. The god then played a second song which made them all laugh, cheer and dance. And lastly, Dagda played a third song that made the Fomorians to lay down on the ground and sleep.

With the army now asleep, Dagda and his men could easily leave with the harp with them.

There was the last information Matthew found on the harp. There was nothing else about it.

On adventurer forums, Matthew found some people claiming they knew where the harp was. Some saying they saw it in the Air Plane, others claiming they saw it inside a dungeon. Others accused the Black Tower of having it, since it was an England based guild and they controlled several gates all over the British islands, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

He only found one person claiming they saw the harp in Dagda’s Logh. There was no information about that person, only a pseudonym who kept advocating for people not to go inside the dungeon. When asked why, he just claimed that the harp was there and it was not to be disturbed.

"Do you know anything about it?" Matthew asked Ffyr after he finished his research on his phone.

"About what?" Ffyr looked at him from her own phone that Sarah gave her. She was playing a game.

"About Dagda’s harp." Matthew said patiently. She was the one who instigated finding it, she should’ve been more invested in it, but Matthew was already used to her erratic behavior.

"Never heard of it." The fairy shrugged.

"And do you know about Dagda?"

"The old man?" Ffyr pondered. "He’s cool."

"That doesn’t help." Matthew shook his head.

The fairy just giggled and turned back to her game.

The next day they all went back to the dungeon to explore the island. All the adventurers around them focused on defeating the monsters to either level up or to make some money.

No one was searching for anything other than monsters.

Meanwhile, they were looking closely into every crevice, every lake and every mount. If there was one burial mound there, surely there must have been others.

They found not only some, but it was very common to find them once you started to look. It seemed the whole island was covered in burial mounds. All of them were empty inside.

"This whole dungeon is an empty graveyard." Paula noted when they left the last burial mound they found.

"It seems so." Tylith agreed, looking around.

They were on a big hill that led up to another burial mound. From there they could see most of the island and, now that they knew what to look for, it was easy to see all the burial mounts mingling between the lakes and fjords.

"It will take forever to look in all of them." Michael commented.

"If that man was living here, he probably looked all over the place already." Ffyr said, flying and getting a better view of the land.

"We can’t just keep searching aimlessly." Matthew said. "We need to find more clues."

"Where?" Michael asked.

"Well. Douglas was convinced that their leader was sure that the harp was here." Matthew pondered. "What does he know that we don’t?"

"We need to find another person of the cult." Paula concluded.

"Anyhow." Matthew said, looking at his watch. "It’s getting late. Unless you want to sleep in the dungeon, we should leave."

"Yeah! I’m bored." Ffyr said, landing at his side.

They all agreed.

When they just got all of the gate, Matthew’s blood froze. He heard a familiar voice that he thought he would never hear again.

"Matty!"

He turned to the person calling him. The same square dark hair, the same green eyes behind the pair of glasses he insisted to fidget with. He still wore a white suit and a black cloak.

"Claudio." Matthew said his name like a curse.

"You’re always so hostile. We wrecked very well together, why do you hate me? You come back and don’t call or send a message." The man joked.

"What do you want?" Paula was protective of Matthew.

"Paula, always so lovely." Claudio smiled at her and then put his gaze on Tylith. "And who is your new friend?" He said moving his glasses.

Claudio’s face went from surprise, to fear and then a creepy smile.

"She’s a new member of our party." Michael put himself between the Director of Research for the Tower of Ryvylin guild.

"You see. This dungeon also belongs to the Tower." He smiled. "And, recently, it seems that someone killed someone in here." Claudio chuckled.

"I doubt you went nostalgic." Matthew antagonized him.

"I did. A bit." Claudio chuckled again. "But I was more worried. The last time you meddled with one of our dungeons, it closed up. And I’m still waiting for your mother to open it up." He turned to Ffyr.

"You can complain to her." Ffyr shrugged.

"We can discuss it later." Claudio sighed. "But today I’m here for the demon cult. I understand you talked to the man before you killed him?"

"We did." Matthew was succinct.

"But we didn’t kill him." Michael added.

"He died after we forced him to tell us the name of their leader." Matthew said.

"Which is?" Claudio asked, moving his hand.

"We only got a part of it. Sa." Michael said.

"He died as soon as he said that." Paula complemented.

"He died for saying a word?" Claudio pondered.

"It seems like some kind of curse." Matthew explained based on what Tylith said.

Claudio got lost in thought and then smiled widely.

"I see..." He hissed like a snake with a pleased tone. "And what did the man want with our dungeon?"

Matthew looked at the others unsure if he should tell him.

"He wanted some item called Harp of Dagda." Tylith revealed. "They believe it is in your dungeon. You know something about it?" Her voice was sweet.

Claudio laughed at her.

"You need a much more powerful spell to sway my mind."

Tylith smiled a challenging smile at him.

"But I’ll humor you..." He added fishing for a name.

"Tylith." The demoness said.

"Tylith. A beautiful name." Claudio smiled. "We did search the dungeon for it after the first rumors were spread about it. But after sweeping the place up and down we concluded it was only a rumor." He shared.

"So it’s not in there?" Michael sighed.

"I thought it wasn’t. But if the demon cult thinks it’s in here, perhaps I should take a personal look into it?" Claudio rubbed his chin and glanced at Matthew.

"Good luck with that." Matthew shrugged and started to walk away.

"Don’t you want to work together again? You know I pay well." Claudio asked.

"I don’t need that kind of cash anymore." Matthew replied.

"Then how about if I collect on that favor you owe me?" The man smiled. "You did cause a serious loss to the guild with the Labyrinth closing."

Matthew stopped on his feet and looked back.

"I almost died there. Faynn died there. All because of your cowardice. Are you really going to bring it up?" He had anger in his voice.

"I wonder what the courts will think about it. It would be a shame if you lose that brand new car of yours." Claudio threatened.

"You’re a snake." Tylith laughed. "You’d feel at home in hell." She spat on the ground.

"You decide. We can solve this in court or you can help me and make a profit. I’m being generous." Claudio smiled creeply.

Matthew sighed and looked at the others. Their faces showed him they agreed it was better to help.

"Alright. But I want a contract." Matthew said.

"Call your lawyer and have her send it to me. She has my number."
