Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill
Chapter 230: Mentor
"What’s going on? What are you all doing here?"
A member of the Elemental Tower’s Disciplinary Committee walked over and questioned the crowd.
Someone noticed the red Disciplinary Committee insignia pinned to his arm.
Immediately, they shouted, "He insulted a noble!"
The Disciplinary Committee student glanced at the person who spoke, then turned to Li Wei and said with a frown, "Why did you insult him?"
Li Wei said flatly, "Is insulting someone against the law?"
The Disciplinary Committee student’s expression froze.
He hadn’t expected Li Wei to be so disrespectful.
He looked at Li Wei and let out a chuckle.
"Heh, a newcomer who doesn’t know the rules?"
"Then let me teach you how things are done."
With a wave of his hand, his expression darkened. "Take him away. I suspect you’re carrying prohibited items. Please come with me to the Disciplinary Committee for an investigation."
"Surrender quietly, and you’ll suffer less."
As he spoke, several people moved to grab Li Wei.
Seeing this, the onlookers revealed expressions of schadenfreude, ready to enjoy the show.
Many of them were angered by Li Wei’s earlier remark.
Now that he was about to be taken away by the Disciplinary Committee, smug smiles appeared on many faces.
Carl quickly said, "Wait, isn’t there some misunderstanding?"
The Disciplinary Committee member glanced at him and asked, "And who are you?"
"I’m Carl, also a new student."
The committee member’s expression was disdainful.
"I was just assigned to the Blue Level Class."
A smile appeared on the committee member’s face. "Ah, so you’re a new underclassman!"
"Don’t worry, it’s just a routine investigation. He won’t be harmed. He’ll be released as soon as the investigation is complete."
After hearing Carl was assigned to the Blue Level Class, the committee member’s expression and attitude changed instantly.
He began explaining in a gentle and reasonable tone.
But he still had no intention of letting Li Wei go.
He was only explaining out of consideration for Carl’s status as a Blue Level Class student.
Otherwise, he would have just taken him away without a word.
No explanation needed.
Letting Li Wei go was impossible. No matter who came, they couldn’t let him go.
Otherwise, where would the Disciplinary Committee’s prestige be?
If a new student dared to so arrogantly defy a Disciplinary Committee Law Enforcer, who would take the Committee seriously in the future?
Li Wei had to be punished!
To uphold discipline!
"Take him away."
Two Disciplinary Committee Law Enforcers walked up to Li Wei, preparing to seize him.
WHOOSH!
A gust of wind swept by.
A figure descended from the sky.
An old, white-bearded man with messy hair landed in front of Li Wei.
He looked at Li Wei and asked, "You’re Li Wei?"
"Torresta’s disciple?"
Li Wei was a bit surprised. He nodded and said, "Yes, I am Li Wei. And you are, senior?"
The white-bearded old man smiled. "I’m a good friend of your master. He asked me to be your mentor during your studies at the Elemental Tower."
"My name is Zog Valen. You can just call me Master Valen."
"Greetings, Master Valen."
Li Wei bowed in greeting.
Valen stretched out his hand and patted Li Wei’s shoulder, which looked a bit comical.
Li Wei was much taller than him. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Study well. Torresta told me you’re a good kid."
Zog Valen swept his gaze over the surroundings. "What are you all crowded around here for?"
The Disciplinary Committee student hurriedly said, "Greetings, Grand Mage. We were just on patrol and happened to see a crowd gathered here, so we came to take a look."
He didn’t mention Li Wei at all.
Seeing this, the others all showed looks of shock.
The few who were about to seize Li Wei were also stunned.
Normally, new students only get the chance to choose a mentor after they’ve entered their class.
But Li Wei was a different story—he hadn’t even gone to the Red Level Class yet, and a mentor had already come looking for him.
Who could possibly receive such treatment?
Only students of the Purple Level Class would enjoy the privilege of having mentors fight over them upon enrollment.
Even someone like Carl, who could enter the Blue Level Class, would only have more options when it was his turn to choose a mentor.
Li Wei followed Zog Valen toward the Elemental Tower.
The Elemental Tower was built on a Floating Island, but the tower wasn’t the only thing on it.
A large city had been built around the Elemental Tower.
Living within the city were the relatives and servants of the Elemental Tower’s students and mentors.
Another portion consisted of the descendants of Elemental Tower Mages.
Having neither left the Floating Island nor become Mages, they could only live in the city outside the Elemental Tower.
The relatives and servants of Mages had descendants of their own.
Thus, there was a massive city on the Floating Island.
Zog Valen brought Li Wei to his own manor.
His manor was empty of people; its servants were a few Magic Puppets.
The two chatted as they walked.
Zog Valen asked, "Which Magic Class were you assigned to?"
Li Wei replied, "The second year of the Red Level Class."
Zog Valen stopped in his tracks, looking at him in utter surprise.
"How did you get assigned to the Red Level Class?"
He was extremely puzzled.
Although Torresta hadn’t revealed all of Li Wei’s details, he had praised Li Wei to no end and held him in extremely high regard.
Zog Valen naturally trusted his old friend Torresta’s judgment.
That was why he was so shocked to hear Li Wei had been assigned to the worst class, the Red Level Class.
Li Wei said, slightly embarrassed, "My Magic Theory score was too low. I only got ten points. My total score was just sixty, sixth from the bottom, so I was assigned to the Red Level Class."
"Only ten points in Magic Theory?" Zog Valen shook his head.
Suddenly, he froze.
"Wait a minute, what did you say your total score was?" Zog Valen asked, his eyes wide.
"Sixty points," Li Wei replied.
Zog Valen took a deep breath.
"So, that means your practical combat score was a perfect one."
"We see perfect scores in theory from time to time, but it’s been over a decade since anyone got a perfect score in practical combat."
"Those people are extremely demanding when it comes to the practical exam. They’ll find any little flaw and dock points for it."
Theory is just stuff from books; anyone who memorizes it well can answer the questions.
The Elemental Tower didn’t have very high expectations for newly enrolled students on that front.
Li Wei thought for a moment. He wasn’t sure if he had made any mistakes.
’Probably not.’
If not attacking the enemy first was considered a flaw, then he really had nothing to say in his defense.
The main reason was that the shock Li Wei had given the observing mentors was simply too great.
As a result, everyone had forgotten to scrutinize his performance for flaws.
They were more focused on how he had managed to instantly kill the Rock Armor Turtle with a single Fireball Skill.
Compared to the shock and pleasant surprise Li Wei had delivered, the issue of who attacked first was no longer important.
Zog Valen said, "It seems Torresta didn’t teach you much about Elemental Magic theory. After all, it’s not his specialty."
"If it had been an exam on Spiritual Magic theory, your score would certainly have been much better. So don’t be discouraged."
Li Wei broke out in a cold sweat internally.
’It would probably be even worse.’
Zog Valen continued, "Don’t be in a rush. Now that you’re at the Elemental Tower, just focus on studying Magic Theory properly."
"For a Mage, knowledge is Power. The higher your Level, the more you will understand the truth in that statement."
"So, you must build a solid foundation."
"We’re here. This is my manor. I usually live here alone, so you can stay here too."
"After all, students in the Red Level Class aren’t assigned housing. If you left, you’d have to find a place to live on your own."
"Thank you, Master Valen," Li Wei said.
