When Yvonne Sutton arrived, Daisy Shaw was crying in distress.

Fierce arguing could be heard from upstairs. Wyatt Shaw and Mr. Rhodes were at each other’s throats, each one trying to shout louder than the other.

"Yvonne, hurry, go upstairs and talk some sense into Wyatt! He can’t upset his father like this!" Daisy Shaw cried, running toward Yvonne Sutton.

Daisy Shaw was usually cheerful and loved to laugh. For her to be crying like this, it was clear how terrible Wyatt Shaw was being.

Yvonne Sutton supported Daisy Shaw and helped her to the sofa.

"What exactly happened?"

"At first it was just about work, but then they started arguing more and more fiercely and began digging up the past." Daisy Shaw pounded her chest as she wept. "He said... he said if he could choose, he never would have wanted to be born into the Rhodes family, never wanted to be our son."

"How could he say something like that? Doesn’t he know he’s stabbing us in the heart?"

Yvonne Sutton frowned. She had been around Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes for half a year and truly felt they were very, very good parents.

Just then, Wyatt Shaw came down the stairs with a dark expression. When he saw her, the hostility in his eyes intensified, and he strode toward the exit.

"Wyatt! Don’t go! Listen to me, what happened back then really wasn’t your father’s and my fault. It was that Hannah Abbott..."

"She’s already dead! Are you still going to push all the blame onto her?" Wyatt Shaw roared.

Daisy Shaw was startled by Wyatt Shaw’s outburst. She froze for a moment before saying, "Son, you... you’d rather believe her than your father and me?"

"I don’t believe anyone!" he said coldly.

"You want to cut ties with us, is that it? Fine, fine, fine! Then go! Get out right now, and never come back to this house again!" Mr. Rhodes shouted at Wyatt Shaw from the top of the stairs.

"Don’t you dare kick my son out!" Daisy Shaw yelled at Mr. Rhodes.

Furious, Mr. Rhodes slammed a hand on the railing. "Am I kicking him out? He’s kicking us out! He doesn’t want us anymore!"

"Apologize to him..."

"In your dreams!"

"Son, just say something nice to your father..."

"Absolutely not!"

Daisy Shaw was so frantic her vision started to blur. "Are you two trying to worry me to death?"

Wyatt Shaw took a deep breath and continued toward the door.

"You unfilial son! From this day forward, I, Harry Rhodes, will act as if I don’t have a son!"

"Good. Saves me the trouble of playing out some heartwarming father-son drama with you. It’s disgusting!"

"You... what did you say?"

"I said you’re disgusting!"

Yvonne Sutton frowned. "Wyatt, you can’t talk to your father like that. Apologize, now!"

Wyatt Shaw looked at her, his expression shifting from anger to ridicule. "You want to acknowledge him as a father? Then go ahead. You’re all the same kind of people anyway!"

After saying this, Wyatt Shaw stormed out.

"You bastard! Don’t you ever come back! Don’t you..."

Mr. Rhodes was trembling with rage, and his vision began to black out in waves.

Yvonne Sutton saw that something was wrong with him and rushed up the stairs, managing to catch him just as he was about to collapse. But Mr. Rhodes was a large man, and Yvonne was quickly overwhelmed by his weight. They tumbled down a few steps together before fortunately coming to a stop.

Daisy Shaw was scared stiff, standing frozen at the bottom of the stairs.

Yvonne Sutton looked at Mr. Rhodes. He had already passed out.

"Mom, call 911, quick!"

Before the ambulance arrived, Yvonne Sutton administered first aid to Mr. Rhodes. When it came, she accompanied them to the hospital.

Mr. Rhodes had suffered a sudden cerebral hemorrhage, but luckily he hadn’t hit his head, and with prompt medical attention, his life was not in danger.

After getting Mr. Rhodes settled and calming Daisy Shaw down, she hurried out to call David Sutton and ask him to find Wyatt Shaw.

"He’s at the restaurant," David Sutton said.

Hearing this, Yvonne Sutton felt relieved.

"Please keep an eye on him for me."

"We’ll definitely look after him, but he’s not in a good state."

"I’ll go see him later tonight."

By evening, the rest of the Rhodes family had gotten the news and rushed over.

With them there to take care of things, Yvonne Sutton could finally get away. She let Daisy Shaw know as she was leaving.

But just as she stepped out of the hospital room, Daisy Shaw chased after her.

"Yvonne, please look after Wyatt for us. He has a bad temper and gets into trouble easily."

Yvonne Sutton nodded. "I know. I’m going to find him right now."

"Okay, okay." Daisy Shaw lowered her head for a moment, then added, "Wyatt... he hates us."

Yvonne Sutton pressed her lips together. "What really happened back then?"

Enough to make Wyatt Shaw hate his own parents.

Daisy Shaw let out a long sigh. "I originally thought that once she died, the whole thing would be over, but Wyatt just can’t let it go. Years ago, Wyatt ran away from home and met the siblings, Ethan and Hannah Abbott. Hannah was sexually assaulted by a high school student, and her brother got revenge for her, beating the student into a vegetative state. To protect Ethan, Wyatt had no choice but to come home and ask us for help. We put up the money, but Ethan still ended up in a juvenile detention center."

As she recounted this, Daisy Shaw couldn’t stop shaking her head.

"But Hannah was convinced that her brother was sent away because we didn’t do our best to help. It’s ridiculous, isn’t it? We helped her, but instead of being grateful, she grew to resent us. From that point on, I never liked that girl."

"After Ethan went to the detention center, Wyatt still refused to come home so he could take care of Hannah. We went along with it, as long as he stayed in school. But during that year, Hannah repeatedly came to us for money, making up all sorts of lies. At first, we believed her, but after we learned what kind of person she was, we stopped giving her money, afraid we’d end up enabling her."

"Later, when Ethan got out, he could look after his sister, so Wyatt was planning to come home. But right then, Hannah came to us again, saying she was sick and desperately needed money for an operation. Because she’d lied to us so many times, we didn’t believe her and sent her away. We never thought that this time she was telling the truth. Her brother tried to rob someone to get the money for her surgery and ended up being killed."

Yvonne Sutton let out a deep sigh. She hadn’t realized there was so much more to the story.

"After what happened to Ethan, it was like something clicked for Wyatt. He not only came home but also followed his father’s arrangements to enroll in a top high school. Everything was starting to look up. Even though we knew he was supporting Hannah, we didn’t say anything. But Hannah believed we were the ones who got her brother killed. She lied to Wyatt, telling him that her brother had come to us, had even kneeled and begged us to save his sister, but that we had not only refused but also humiliated him. She claimed Ethan only resorted to robbery out of desperation."

"Wyatt already felt guilty about Ethan’s death, so when he heard Hannah’s story, he came to hate us too. Soon after, he took Hannah abroad and refused to contact us again. It wasn’t until two years after he graduated that he suddenly came home. That’s when we found out Hannah had died. He seemed to have forgotten a lot of things. I don’t know if that includes what happened with Ethan. He never brings it up, and we don’t dare to ask."

Yvonne Sutton hugged Daisy Shaw. "So when you said this misunderstanding could never be cleared up, it’s because Hannah is dead."

Daisy Shaw nodded. "Yes. She’s dead. No matter what we say now, it will only sound like we’re making excuses."

"You weren’t in the wrong. The ones at fault were Ethan Abbott, Hannah Abbott, and Wyatt Shaw," Yvonne Sutton said.

They had no obligation to help Ethan and Hannah, and Wyatt had no right to demand that his parents help them.

Helping was a kindness, not an obligation.

’But Wyatt is a reasonable person. How could he be so muddled about this? There’s probably more to it.’

Yvonne Sutton told Daisy Shaw not to overthink it and to get some rest.

"I’ll go find Wyatt and have a good talk with him."

Daisy Shaw grasped Yvonne Sutton’s hand. "Yvonne, thank God for you today. Otherwise, his father... I’m afraid he wouldn’t have made it."

"Dad is fine now. You need to take care of yourself too."

After taking Daisy Shaw back to the room, Yvonne Sutton left the hospital and went to Chad Miller’s place.

From a distance, she saw a group of people fighting. As she got closer, she saw that the one pinning a man to the ground and beating him was none other than Wyatt Shaw.
