Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Running Away From Home

Yvonne Sutton was speechless for a long time. Back then, Wyatt Shaw had just lost the woman he loved and was deep in grief. He thought his father was there to support him, but in the end, he was abandoned.

And Jean Bell. He must have known how she felt about him, but he let her get close. Perhaps he saw her as a lifeline, but she abandoned him too.

Yvonne Sutton found it hard to imagine how Wyatt Shaw had gotten through that time. It must have been incredibly difficult. Then he lost his memory, forgetting his love for Hannah Abbott, his hatred for Mr. Rhodes, and all his wounds, before finally returning.

’He hadn’t forgotten on purpose. He was saving himself.’

"You don’t know what he did over there, he—"

Yvonne Sutton shook her head, stopping Mr. Rhodes from continuing.

"I don’t want to know."

’She had already decided to leave Wyatt Shaw, so she might as well preserve the good image she had of him in her heart.’

As she left the hospital room, Yvonne Sutton saw Daisy Shaw standing outside, her face streaked with tears.

Yvonne Sutton returned home, but Wyatt Shaw wasn’t there. Feeling uneasy, she was about to call him when Mrs. Miller called her.

"David Sutton’s grandfather passed away. Wyatt Shaw went with him back to his hometown to handle the funeral arrangements. He asked me to let you know so you wouldn’t worry."

Yvonne Sutton replied, "Okay, I understand."

"And Yvonne, has something happened between you and Wyatt Shaw?"

"There is indeed a problem between us."

Mrs. Miller sighed. "I think I can guess why. Ah, meeting Hannah Abbott when he was young was definitely the greatest misfortune of Wyatt Shaw’s life."

Yvonne Sutton gave a bitter smile. ’I’ve never even met Hannah Abbott, but she’s become my misfortune, too.’

The renovations on the old house were almost finished. Yvonne Sutton planned to pack her things and move in. When Wyatt Shaw returned, she would go with him to finalize the divorce.

As she was packing, the doorbell rang.

She opened the door to find Mr. Webb. Behind him stood a man in a sharp suit.

"Miss Sutton, this is Mr. Shaw’s private lawyer, Attorney Xavier."

Yvonne Sutton was bewildered. "Is something wrong?"

Attorney Xavier extended his hand toward her. "Miss Sutton, a pleasure to meet you."

Yvonne Sutton shook his hand. "Hello."

"May we speak inside?"

Yvonne Sutton nodded and invited Mr. Webb and Attorney Xavier into the house.

After Attorney Xavier sat down, he opened his briefcase and took out a stack of contracts.

"Miss Sutton, I’ve been retained by Mr. Shaw to transfer three properties, shares in five companies, several funds, and a private island—all currently under his name—to you. This will constitute your portion of the assets in the divorce."

As he spoke, Attorney Xavier fanned the contracts out on the table. He opened the first one and pushed it toward Yvonne Sutton for her to review.

"If everything is in order, please sign here at the bottom. I will handle all the subsequent arrangements, so you have nothing to worry about."

Yvonne Sutton looked at the table full of contracts, her brow furrowed tightly.

"I won’t sign. And I don’t want any of this."

Attorney Xavier paused, taken aback. "Er, perhaps you’re unaware that these assets are worth billions."

"I don’t care how much they’re worth. They aren’t mine, and I won’t take them," Yvonne Sutton said firmly.

"Miss Sutton, this is Mr. Shaw’s way of compensating you. Please, just accept it," Mr. Webb urged her.

"I absolutely will not," Yvonne said.

Attorney Xavier shrugged. "In that case, you’ll need to call Mr. Shaw."

Yvonne Sutton nodded. ’She really did need to call Wyatt Shaw.’

She dialed his number, and he picked up almost immediately.

"I’m busy, what’s up?"

Just as Yvonne Sutton was about to speak, she heard him shout to someone on his end, "Hey, give me a couple of wails. I need to hear how resonant your voice is."

Yvonne Sutton was completely bewildered. ’Who was he asking to cry?’

A moment later, a gut-wrenching wail erupted through the phone, accompanied by heart-rending cries of "Father, oh, Father!"

"Okay, okay, you’re hired. It’s six-eighty, right? I’ll give you a thousand. You’d better cry with everything you’ve got tomorrow."

The woman on the other end was overjoyed, thanking him profusely.

"What are you doing?" Yvonne Sutton couldn’t help but ask.

"David Sutton’s grandfather didn’t have any daughters. It’s the custom here. If you don’t have a daughter, you have to hire someone to play the part and mourn. So, here I am, hiring someone."

The corner of Yvonne Sutton’s mouth twitched. ’He certainly is busy.’

"Attorney Xavier is here."

"Oh, I sent him to you. It’s nothing important. Just sign whatever he gives you."

Yvonne Sutton was speechless. ’Nothing important? The papers he wanted her to sign were for assets worth tens of billions.’

"I don’t want it. I don’t want anything," she said.

"Are you stupid?"

"Wyatt Shaw!"

"Just take it. It’s not like I don’t have more money than I know what to do with."

"I don’t want it!"

"Yvonne Sutton..."

"What?"

"You’re different from Jean Bell."

"..."

Wyatt Shaw sighed. "Forget it. I’ll be back the day after tomorrow. We’ll go finalize the divorce."

Before Yvonne Sutton could say anything, Wyatt Shaw hung up. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Resigned, Yvonne Sutton could only tell Attorney Xavier that they would have to discuss the matter in detail when Wyatt Shaw returned.

Attorney Xavier didn’t force the issue and collected the contracts.

"My advice to you, Miss Sutton? It’s a waste not to take what’s offered."

Attorney Xavier smiled at Yvonne Sutton, then stood up to leave.

"Miss Sutton, we’ll be on our way, then," Mr. Webb said.

Yvonne Sutton nodded. "Thank you for coming all this way."

"It was no trouble. It’s just... ah, Mr. Shaw and you are such a good match. How did it come to this?" Mr. Webb shook his head as he left.

The next day, Yvonne Sutton took her luggage to the old house. After getting everything settled, she stayed there for the night.

When the third day arrived, Yvonne Sutton tried calling Wyatt Shaw early in the morning, but couldn’t get through. After a moment’s thought, she decided to head to the registry office and wait for him there.

While waiting for Wyatt Shaw, Claire Lawrence called her to say she had terminated her contract with Stratos.

"Thanks to Mr. Rhodes’ help, Stratos didn’t dare give me a hard time."

Yvonne Sutton hummed in acknowledgment. She had asked Silas Rhodes for his help previously.

"Also, Spectra has a new mystery series. I passed the audition and I’ll be joining the cast in a few days!" Claire Lawrence said excitedly.

"That’s great. Spectra’s production teams are always top-notch. This is your chance to make a comeback."

"Mhmm, definitely. Oh, right, it’s Joshua’s birthday today. We’re getting a table at the tavern tonight. Want to come?"

"I think I’ll pass."

Claire Lawrence didn’t push. "It’s probably for the best. That way you won’t have to run into that bastard Vincent Reed."

She waited until almost noon, but Wyatt Shaw still hadn’t arrived.

Yvonne Sutton called him again, but still couldn’t get through. At this point, she realized something was wrong and quickly called David Sutton.

"Huh? He didn’t go home? I dropped him off outside your villa last night. I watched him go in with my own eyes."

"Okay, in that case, I’ll go to the villa to look for him."

Yvonne Sutton hung up and rushed to the villa, but after searching the first and second floors, she couldn’t find him. When she tried calling Wyatt Shaw again, his phone was still off.

Yvonne Sutton quickly checked the home’s security footage. She saw Wyatt Shaw come back, walk a lap around the house, and then go into the bedroom. About half an hour later, he emerged with a travel bag, got in his car, and drove away.

’Did he just run away from home?’
