Seeing Yvonne Sutton ask this, Mr. Rhodes immediately felt a twinge of regret.

"It seems Wyatt Shaw hasn’t told you about his past."

’He must have had a girlfriend before,’ Yvonne Sutton’s mind raced. ’They were probably very serious, but then they broke up. Wyatt must have been devastated, and he didn’t date anyone after that, so Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes thought he would never get married.’

It was nothing, really. She had Vincent Reed in her past, so of course Wyatt Shaw could have someone in his.

"It’s okay. He’ll tell me when he’s ready."

Mr. Rhodes breathed a sigh of relief. "Don’t worry. That boy, Wyatt, he’s not the fickle type. Since he married you, he’ll be completely devoted to you. But if he ever bullies you, you tell us. We’ll be on your side."

Yvonne Sutton was touched. Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes were truly good to her.

On their way back, they ran into Mr. Rhodes, who was also out for a walk. He was clearly the same age as Wyatt’s father, but when he approached, he called out, "Second Uncle."

Ever since Rhodes’s generation, the main branch of the family has been considered one generation senior, so all the descendants are a generation ahead in title.

"Well, well, the sun must be rising in the west. You’re actually willing to go for a walk?" Mr. Rhodes asked teasingly.

Wyatt’s father said smugly, "My daughter-in-law was worried about my health and insisted on taking a walk with me."

Mr. Rhodes turned to Yvonne Sutton and gave her a thumbs-up. "You’re the only one in the family who can get him to walk more than a few steps."

Yvonne Sutton quickly sorted out the family hierarchy in her head and then called out, "Big Brother."

Mr. Rhodes was delighted. "Next time, come to my house for dinner! Your sister-in-law has a lot of specialties she can make for you!"

"Okay."

Wyatt’s father then mentioned Silas Rhodes, asking if the kid had gotten into trouble again and why he was always avoiding him.

Mr. Rhodes sighed. "He just tanked a company. I guess he’s too ashamed to see you."

"It’s fine. That company was about to go bankrupt anyway. I just gave it to him for practice."

"Is that what you call building his confidence?"

"If his confidence is that easily crushed, how will he ever make it to the top ranks of The Rhodes Group?"

Mr. Rhodes considered this and agreed. "He’s not a kid anymore. It’s time for Wyatt Shaw to teach him a thing or two."

"That’s what I was thinking, too."

When they were leaving the old residence, Daisy Shaw gave her several bags, saying she had been browsing the mall a few days ago and bought a few things she thought Yvonne would like.

On the way back, Yvonne Sutton looked through the bags. They were mostly clothes—coats, dresses, and pants—and they were all in her size.

She glanced sideways at Wyatt Shaw, who readily admitted it.

"She called me. I told her."

"You know my sizes?"

Wyatt Shaw gave a sly grin. "Of course I do."

Yvonne Sutton’s face flushed red at some thought, and she quickly looked down and continued rummaging through the bags.

Besides the clothes, another bag was filled with jewelry boxes. She picked one at random and found a Jade Bracelet inside. ’One of this quality must be worth at least a hundred thousand,’ she thought. She picked up another box, and inside was a diamond necklace from a top luxury brand. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"These things are too expensive," Yvonne Sutton said.

"If you like them, wear them. If you don’t, then don’t. But they’re a gift from Mom, a token of her affection. You have to accept them."

"But..."

"Yvonne, I’ll share everything I have with you. This is nothing."

Yvonne Sutton looked at Wyatt Shaw’s serious expression, her heart full and warm. It wasn’t because he said he would share everything with her, but because of the sincere and solemn way he treated her as the other half of his life.

When they got home, Wyatt Shaw helped her put away the clothes and jewelry and told her to go take a shower first.

After her shower, Yvonne Sutton heard the sound of a piano. She walked to the room at the very end of the hall and saw Wyatt Shaw sitting at an old piano, playing.

On their wedding day, she had seen him play the piano for the first time—he had played for her.

The piano piece was calm and warm. She walked over and saw that he was completely absorbed, his eyes as gentle as water.

When the piece ended, he took her hand and had her sit down with him.

"What was the name of that piece?" she asked.

Wyatt Shaw thought for a moment, then shook his head with a smile. "I forgot. I was just improvising."

"Your dad said your violin playing is terrible, but your piano playing is quite good."

"I realized I had no talent for the violin, so I switched to piano."

"Is this piano yours?"

The piano was covered in cartoon stickers; it didn’t seem like it would be his.

"It belonged to Ethan Abbott’s little sister. You remember me mentioning Ethan Abbott, right?"

Yvonne Sutton nodded. He had made three sworn brothers the year he ran away from home—Chad Miller, David Sutton, and Ethan Abbott—but Ethan Abbott had lost his life during a robbery.

"Ethan Abbott’s parents were teachers. Before the accident, his family was doing okay. His little sister was taking piano lessons back then and loved to play. But then his parents died in a car crash, and their relatives cheated them out of the compensation money and their family savings. Ethan Abbott had to drop out of school to support his sister. His sister wanted a piano, so the four of us did all sorts of dirty, tiring jobs to save up. Finally, on his sister’s birthday, we had saved enough to buy this secondhand piano."

Whenever he spoke of those days, Wyatt Shaw always had a smile on his face. Though they were tiring, the days spent with his brothers had been happy ones.

"His sister?" Yvonne Sutton recalled the short-haired girl with a fiery temper who had brought her seafood dumplings.

"Yeah, her name is..." Wyatt Shaw frowned, trying hard to remember, but he couldn’t. "I forgot her name. She was always at school, so she wasn’t actually that close with the three of us."

Wyatt Shaw turned and lifted Yvonne Sutton into his lap. He ran his fingers through her half-dry hair, a predatory smile in his eyes. He suddenly pressed the back of her head and kissed her forcefully.

Their passionate indulgence was interrupted when Yvonne Sutton was just starting to beg for mercy, and Wyatt Shaw’s phone rang.

He didn’t want to answer it, wanting to continue their intimate moment, but the phone kept ringing. With no other choice, he rolled over, pulling Yvonne Sutton into his arms so she was lying on top of him, and then grabbed his phone.

It was about work. The person on the other end was in a hurry.

Wyatt Shaw put down the phone, looked at Yvonne Sutton lying in his arms, and couldn’t resist kissing her for a little while longer before carrying her to the bathroom.

"I have to go out of town. There’s a problem with one of my projects."

Lying in his arms, Yvonne Sutton looked up at him. "Now?"

"Yeah, it’s urgent."

She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him. "Be careful on the road. And I can wash myself. You should go pack your clothes."

"It won’t take that long."

Wyatt Shaw pressed his forehead against Yvonne Sutton’s. "From now on, whenever I’m home, I have to be the one to wash you."

Yvonne Sutton playfully punched his shoulder. "No way."

Wyatt Shaw laughed. "It’s a blessing. I’m begging you to bestow it upon me."

He made Yvonne Sutton blush and laugh uncontrollably, but she still let him wash her.

After they got out of the bathroom, he settled her into bed and told her to lie down and sleep.

"I’m going to the walk-in closet to pack a couple of things, and then I’ll be leaving."

"I’ll see you out."

"It’s cold outside."

"I still want to see you out."

Yvonne Sutton got dressed, and by then, Wyatt Shaw had pretty much finished packing. She walked him to the door, where Mr. Webb was already waiting in the car.

"Call me when you get there," she said.

Wyatt Shaw wrapped his arms around her and gave her a kiss. "Okay."

She watched him get into the car and saw it disappear into the night, and Yvonne Sutton suddenly felt like a huge part of her heart was now empty. She shrugged, took two steps back, and was just about to close the courtyard gate when someone suddenly appeared and blocked it with their foot.
